A thank you to all who are serving and have served.
in reply to: Quacker Talk-November 2019 #102781Hi Colleen,
Thank you for the prayers and the kind words about Brent. I am really beside myself with worry this time around and I know I can always count on my Quacker friends for words of hope and support. Thank you all so much.
I see that I have a doctor’s appointment on the day of the Quacker cookie exchange. Good thing that I can copy it. I have not noticed much new Quacker for this Christmas but that goes along with everything else about Christmas on the Q this year. The gift shows are boring and it seems like they are already done with the decorating shows. It really makes me wonder about the future of the Q. And if the Q disappears what will happen to Quacker?
I think Piper just liked the pretty blue dress-I don’t think she cared what the costume was called in the package. lol I’m sure no first grader knows about the renaissance-unless they are some kind of genius.
I’m glad Melissa is coming for Christmas. It’s good that Stephen can get some leave then. Your house will be full and you will be able to make a lot of use of your Mom’s dining room set. You will be able to make lots of new memories around that table and reminiscence about the old times too. It sounds like the perfect place for holiday meals and get togethers.
I’m looking forward to this time of year. I like to read some nice holiday books. They are kind of like the equivalent of the Hallmark Christmas movies and are just nice stories to end out the year with. I have a bunch of them on my kindle so I have lots of choices.
Have you been reading anything good lately? I just finished Stephen Kings newest book which was a good one. It’s nice-Sue and I are friends on Goodreads so we can keep up with the books that each other are reading and see if there are any good recommendations. It’s funny-I was also friends on Goodreads with another woman from the Q boards but she dropped me-I guess my books weren’t interesting enough for her. lol The weird part is that she was the one who reached out to friend me in the first place. She’s some kind of reviewer for Amazon-I don’t really understand how it all works but I think she has a lot of books that she has to read.
Have a great weekend.
Gailin reply to: Quacker Talk-November 2019 #102746Hi Adele,
The decorations and the food from the shower are fantastic. I loved that snowy back drop and the candles around the chairs. And the cupcakes! How did she get that blue and green swirled together like that! They are gorgeous and please tell her I said so.
I am still praying for Heather to make lots of progress. How does something like this even happen? Maybe I missed the explanation. Read my message to Colleen for an update on Brent’s health. He just can’t get ahead.
Maybe Luna attacked Big Bird because she is part Lab and they are bird dogs. lol I guess she just wanted her own stuffie.
So the baby will be Santino-Sonny for short. It’s very cute but it makes me think of Sonny Corleone from the Godfather and Sonny Corinthos-from General Hospital-both mob guys. lol That really is delving deep into his Italian side.
How are you guys making out over there since the four of you only make one whole person. Thank goodness for carry out and delivery.
We had snow again here last night and it’s very cold today-like in the 20’s. Very early for all this nastiness. It makes me afraid for the winter.
This winter we are buying a different kind of insert to put into our fireplace which will generate more heat-it’s still wood burning but we can also close it off totally at night so I don’t have to worry about a stray spark burning down the house while we are upstairs asleep. Greg is always so cold in the winter. I tell him he needs to get fatter like me so he has more insulation. lol
Gailin reply to: Quacker Talk-November 2019 #102744Hi Colleen,
For Halloween Lachlan was some ninja guy, Kendall wore a Slytherin costume from Harry Potter and Piper had a renaissance lady costume-and then she asked me what’s the renaissance-lol. I guess she just thought the dress was pretty.
You know to be perfectly honest I would rather Brent would come home in the summer rather than at the holidays as it’s so cold here and there would be more stuff to do if he came in the summer-so I guess I don’t mind as much. Maybe it would bother me more if he had kids too-that I would like to see at the holidays-but since it’s just him I’d like him to come when we can do more stuff. Speaking of Brent-now they say he has some issue with his stomach so he is being scoped next week. He has lost 8 pounds in the past several weeks and to tell you guys the truth I am just beside myself with worry. The poor guy just can’t catch a break. For a young man he has had so many health problems and even with insurance it is costing him so much money for all these tests. he just can’t keep it up-and I’m so afraid the insurance will drop him-or he will need surgery and not be able to work and he has already gone through his savings on all the other tests and procedures. He just can’t catch a break. I told him we would pick up the copays and out of pocket expenses for these next tests otherwise he just can’t afford to have them done-and what if it’s a problem that needs to be dealt with now? I’m sorry for dropping this on you but I am at my wits end with this-as I worry about his health and his finances. So all prayers would be appreciated.
I hope now that you have your Mom’s dining room set you can remember all the happy times the family spent around that table and you can continue that tradition. You’ll have chances to do that soon with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up.
As to Christmas on the Q I have seen very little stuff that I want to buy as gifts or even for myself this year. I will have to shop elsewear. I think their programming has been very boring and to be honest I watch very little anymore.
As for DWTS I will continue watching no matter what the outcome because I like to watch the dancers-both pros and non pros-so I’m not going to let the outcome destroy the pleasure of that for me. I think it’s the voting public who is screwing everything up-and I have no control over them. People just vote on who they like or who they want to see win without any regard to how they dance or if they are improving. So now it’s really about who has the biggest social media presence and the dancing is secondary-so if the show tanks it’s the fault of the people-not the programming. Plus I think Tom Bergeron stirred the pot when he said that he would like to see the program fee of politics-so people are voting for Sean Spicer because of that-plus the president actually tweets every week that people should vote for Spicer-I would bet he’s never even seen the program. Also-the fact that people can vote before anyone even dances is weird-plus you can only live vote if you are in the eastern and central time zones-so many west coast voters are not included. It’s a mess but I basically hold the voting public and not the network or the producers responsible. Okay I’m off my soapbox now.
Did I ever tell you that Patrick Taylor has another new book and a cookbook? I can’t remember.
Gailin reply to: Quacker Talk-November 2019 #102742Hi Barbara,
I’m so happy that you had such a nice visit with Colin. It must have made you feel good when he didn’t want you guys to leave. I’ll bet you wanted to scoop him up and take him with you! It will be Thanksgiving before you know it and you will see him again. I’m glad that he’s closer now and you can see him more often.
Gailin reply to: Quacker Talk-November 2019 #102536Hi Adele,
How are you and Heather feeling? Hope prep for the shower is going well. Thank goodness Enzo’s mother is feeling all right-she will have to hold down the fort along with Steph and Amanda.
One of the differences between UC and colitis is that UC is an auto immune disease. Plus I think with UC you get not only inflammation but also actual ulcers in your colon.
We had a quiet weekend. We grand dog sat on Friday so we have not been over to Jenny’s to visit in many weeks now. We did see the kids when they dropped off and picked up the dogs though and we were able to give them the stuff that we brought back from OKC for them.
They went to an indoor water park for the night so Luke and Callie stayed with us.
I think we went straight to winter even though it’s fall until December 21st. It’s been cold here. Brrrrr!
Gailin reply to: Quacker Talk-November 2019 #102534Hi Colleen,
Well we won’t be meeting Brent’s new girlfriend until next time we go to NM which will be late next year. Unless he comes home over the summer and brings her. I’m just glad that he has the companionship again. We’ll see how things progress as time moves on. I really don’t even care if he or Jenny ever get married again as long as they have someone to do things with as it’s not much fun going to the movies or out to eat alone. And it gets worse when you get older. At least Jenny has tons of girlfriends-Brent doesn’t even have that as even when he lived here he only had a couple of very close friends. And I think he may have one or two male friends in NM to do some stuff with. Lately he has gotten into target practice and I know he has a friend that he does that with.
We had 4 to 5 inches of snow so the kids were trick or treating with boots and heavy coats. It’s all melted now at least.
I hope Mandy is doing well since she got her own place and I hope her job is going well.
No matter how old our kids get we still worry about them. speaking of getting old Brent’s 20th high school reunion was this past weekend. He didn’t have any interest in going but gee-where did all that time fly to? It seems like just yesterday that he graduated.
Gailin reply to: Quacker Talk-November 2019 #102532Hi Sue,
I will say prayers for your friend. Pneumonia can really knock the stuffing out of a person-sometimes it takes quite a while before you feel like yourself again. Happy birthday to your 99 year old friend. That’s amazing. Next year I hope she gets on a Smucker’s jar for her 100th.
We got about 4 to 5 inches of snow on Halloween. Fortunately it’s melted as we don’t have the plow on yet.
You know when I think back on it now when I was in grade school we had the day after Halloween off anyway as i went to Catholic school and the day after was All Saints Day- a holy day of obligation which was usually a day off school also. Colleen and Adele-you guys went to Catholic school-do you remember that? However, I don’t think schools should give the day off after Halloween. The younger kids are probably home and done by seven o’clock anyway. It’s just another unnecessary day off in my book and there are enough of them already.
Gailin reply to: Quacker Talk-November 2019 #102530Hi DD,
I like the wreath made out of Indian corn. I agree with Colleen-the food at your meetings sounds good.
Speaking of wreathes-did you see the contest Quacker is having for the Christmas wreath on the home page?
I’ve already entered. One day I wish one of us would win one of the giveaways. I would like to know who gets the stuff at least once.
