Hi Gail,
I can remember that my aunt died on a holiday week-end and that was the longest visitation that I had ever gone to. Well I was only 6 so it was one of the only visitations that I had been to. Remember back then the kids had to go along because it was not heard of leaving your kids with someone else. The only good thing about it was my cousins were there also so we had someone to talk to. My poor mom and dad had to sit thru the whole thing and mom had to be in the front at the coffin because she did not have any children just a husband. So they had to stand there with him. So my mom, my aunt and my uncle had to be there. My grandma could not stand to do it so they did not make her. That was not the right word though. No one could make grandma do anything that she did not want to do. I think it is time to get off this subject.
I agree when we got pay tv we were not supposed to have to watch commercials. Now do we not only pay to watch tv but we pay to watch the commercial also. I am glad that they came up with the dvr so we do not have to watch them. It is irritating to have to watch the commercials. There are just so many of them. You would think that they could eliminate some of them.
That was really dumb for those guys to rush the stage last night. I could not believe that they did that. Christine B. sent me an article about Derek Hough going out and asking security to make some girls leave that had the same t shirts on. He said that it is not what the show is about. It is about second chances and leaning to dance. He was right and it was nice that he did that. I had not hear about that but it was in the paper in England.
There are a lot of people that are buying old signs and things now hoping that they can make money on them some day. Ron would have to work fast because our some day is here. lol I can just see that big sign in the sky. Won’t that look nice in the back yard. At least we live in the country and no one will notice it that much.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi Sue,
I do corn on the cob the same way. Have you ever left it on the cob and then froze it? We tried that once and did not like it as much as when we cut it off the cob. The only thing that we have found that is not good to freeze is yellow squash. If you have a way to freeze it please let me know so I can try it. They seem to be mushy when we thaw them out and do not taste as good as they should.
Have a good night.
ColleenHi Adele,
I like the way that you did the carrots, onions and peppers with Italian sausage. We have made fried potatoes with onions and added the sausage to that. That was pretty good. It is nice that the Chew is having new shows on again. It was getting tiresome watching the old ones. If there was a recipe that you liked it was not on the page under new recipes you had to look and look for them. I am not good at that and give up easily. They have so many recipes.
Bobby needs to more courageous then that. You are a good cook and you always make good meals. You will have to let us know how that all truned out. I may try it and instead of putting it on rice fry potatoes with it. That could be interesting.
I do not know why I thought when you put sil that you were talking about my sister in law. I must have been thinking about her when I wrote that. So I am sorry I am just a fruit cake some days. Thank you for the prayers for him he will need them. He hurt himself playing basket ball. He has a cut above the eye and had to have stitches. How he did that I will never know. He really needs a keeper. lol
That was nice that JJ got to come for the party. It is a shame that Aizen did not make it. He did not get to say yum when he tasted the cupcakes or the cake. They both looked so good. It is easier to put cream in cupcakes then between the layers of a pie. You did a good job though and thinking of putting that well in the bottom level was a good idea. You are a good baker.
Our weather has been really nice here also. It has really cooled down. It is nice not having the air on every night. We do turn it on in the late afternoon because the sun shines on the front of the house and it gets hot in here. So we have to turn it on and then when the sun does not shine on the front of the house we turn it off and open the windows in the front again.
I freeze corn from off the cob also. It is not hard to do and it freezes really well. It is nice to have it for the winter and it always taste fresh. I do it like Sue and blanch it and then freeze it. I put it in freezer bags because it is easier to store then in bowls. I have my sauce in bowls so do not have enough room for anymore bowls.
I still feel bad that I did not make it to the funeral. There is nothing I can do now about it. So I hope they are happy with the Mass.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.
ColleenHi Gail,
I hope that he does not think of something like that with that sign. He would probably hire someone to bring it home for him and then I would have to put up with it. I may have to ban American Pickers from our tv. They give him too many ideas. At least he has not tried to by a trailer off the big trucks to put in the back yard to store things in. He is a pain some days.
I am taping dwts. I cannot stand to watch all the commercials there are way too many. So I got on here to answer my e-mails. That way I will not have to get on here so late. I am trying to get my e-mails done earlier in the evening. It is hard to do though because of Ron wanting me to watch tv with him sometimes. Usually I have to have it on a station so he cannot turn it to the news shows. I get so tired of watching that stuff. I am interested in who is running and all of their views. I do not need to hear what all these news casters have to say. I want to form my own opinion. It doesn’t matter what channel you watch they are all on there telling who you should vote for. I will get off of my soap box now.
The sign that Ron wants says Hocker Oil a full service station or we pump your gas. I guess it says we pump your gas because they are not a full service station. Not like we were use to seeing when we were younger.
Back stoppers are a group of people that help the families of police people, firemen and people that drive the ambulance. They help the guys if they get hurt and if they get killed they help the families out with sending them money or getting them the help that they need. They are a good group. They really do a lot for all of those families.
It will be nice to have a place for us to put our recipes. Everyone is so good about sharing their recipes on here and we all try them out. I did the meatloaf with the potatoes that Adele said that she did. It was really good. We both really enjoyed it. We have not tried the chicken with the beer. That would be good also. I think that you had told us about that a while back.
I hope that the family understands. I will probably never see them again because they live in St. Louis so we never run into each other. I just feel really bad. I try to make it to the funerals or the visitations. She had it all at one time it was her request that they do it that way. I bet it was hard on the whole family. People do not realize how tiring that is until they do it. Ron’s family did that when his dad died and we were all really tried when it was over with.
Well that is about all from here. Have great night.
ColleenHi Adele,
We tried the meat loaf tonight with the potatoes. It was really good. You are right the potatoes cooked in the juice from the meat has a good flavor. We ate almost all the potatoes at on sitting. I did use my temptations dish to cook it in also.
It is my daughters husband that is in the service. He was sent to Afghanistan right after Kaylee was born. My daughter had problems after she was born and he did get to stay with her until she was okay. He missed Kaylee’s first Christmas. He had to say there a lot longer then he will be in Korea. At least she saw pictures of him and could talk to him over the internet. So she did not forget what he looked like. That makes it really nice.
The Boston cream pie looks really good. It does not matter if the cream came out of the middle or not. I love Boston cream pie. Never have made it the way that it should be just did the best way I knew how. You are such a good baker. The cupcakes look really good also. Did the kids all come over for Gary’s birthday. Tell him I said Happy Birthday. I cannot remember if I told him that yet or not. My mind is going.
Saturday afternoon I went to the winery with my daughters. It was Twin Oaks winery. It was a lot of fun they had people that were stomping grapes. They dressed up like Lucy and some of them had red wigs on. They all had a good time doing it though. They also had music and a sing along. It was funny because they played a song that was popular when we were young. It was a Neil Diamond song ” Sweet Caroline” It was funny because a lot of people were singing along. They did not serve the food that they usually serve I guess because they had so many people there. They also had an auction that was for Back Stoppers. That is what the whole event was for. It was crowded but we did get a table on the patio which was nice.
I am embarrassed to say we did not make it to the funeral. I over slept. I cannot believe it but have a hard time sleeping for the two nights before the funeral and then over slept the day of the funeral. I am going to have a Mass said for her. I just cannot believe that I did that. Ron thought that it was better that I slept because even when I did get up he said that I still looked tired. I have never heard of have a funeral at 8am. Usually they are in the afternoon or late morning. Guess I am just a horrible person. That is probably what the others think.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi DD.
I am so sorry to hear about your friend and neighbor. She sounded like a nice lady. It is sad that she died so quickly. It was such a shame that they found that she had lung cancer. Some times our friends go so quickly and it is hard to know why. You will be in my prayers.
Well that is not as bad. A few hours and not a whole day. They do not seem to get much done at one time. They really spread it out. It would be nice if they would have had everything done at the same time so you would not have to keep leaving your apartment. That would start to upset me. I am not good at leaving the house unless I have something I need to do.
Our weather has really cooled down here also. It is cold enough at night that we use blankets. We finally turned out air conditioner off. That poor thing is probably worn out since it was such a hot summer. It has been running day and night. It will be nice to get a cheaper electric bill. It would be nice if the electric costs would go down but that will never happen.
You did not sound dumb asking that question. I just cut the potatoes up and put them around the meat loaf. I am not sure how Adele did it but I think she did it the same. We tried it that way tonight and it is good. It is fun to try recipes that we share on here.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi DD
I am sorry to hear about your back and your eye. Did the eye doctor know how you got the infection? Was it pink eye? I have not seen that around for a long time. My grands use to come home with that every once in awhile but they seem to have stopped that. Dry eye can be so uncomfortable. I hope they can give you drops for that.
Jewell is so cute. You must have gotten her cut again not too long ago. She must be a lot of company for you. Where are you supposed to go while they are putting a roof on the building? I hope that it will not take them more then one day. It will be hard to find a place to go for that long.
We lost our football team so Ron will not watch foot ball this season. He is really mad because of all the trouble that the Rams caused before they left. That guy was a real jerk. Do not understand why he wanted to bring his team here in the first place. He never liked it here and he went back to California where they were originally. So we are happy they are gone.
Love the pictures that you posted. They are always so cheerful and brighten everyone’s day. You always find the pretties pictures. I am glad that you do and post them on here. I like the pictures that Adele posted of the tree she planted for Aizen. It is a pretty tree.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi Gail,
I know that it is hard on all of us now. We are losing friends and family and we are never ready for that. All we can do is pray and hope that the family is okay. Thank you for the prayers they are really appreciated.
That was pretty good she got a tip for just checking ids. It sounds like the balloon fest did really good this year. Do they have rides there for the kids are is it just mainly the balloons? I bet there were a lot of disappointed people when they found out it was too windy for a ride in the balloons. The Labor day picnic was a success here. They had two different police departments walking around in the park so there was no trouble. I am not sure if they served liquor there or not. They usually do not but they have found that they can make more money if they do. So there is no telling what they did this year. Ron will have to ask his nephew.
I wish that Ron would do that. I just go out there with a glass of water for him or have to tell him to come in for a break. He starts working on his lawnmowers and forgets about everything else. He has gotten another goofy idea. There is a gas station in one of the towns around here and they went out of business. He wants to buy there big sign to put up by one of the sheds in the yard. He is having trouble finding the person he needs to talk to find out how to go about buying it. This is one thing I hope no one helps him with. It is a tall sign and I have no idea how he thinks he will get it home. He would probably have to hire someone to bring here for him Men what they can think of.
Well that is about all from here have a good night.
ColleenHi Adele,
My friend died suddenly. She was always so active that it was hard to believe when they told us. I still cannot believe it. This is going to be hard to go to tomorrow. Ron is going with me so I will not be alone. She will really be missed. I think that we are going to go out to lunch in her honor. We will go to her favorite place and remember all the fun we had with her. I do not know why I am taking this so hard.
The potatoes must have has a lot more flavor. They would be a lot better then the mashed potatoes. Somebody told me that you can make gravy out of the drippings from the meat loaf but I have never tried it. It would be better if you could just cook the potatoes in the pan with the meat. I am going to try that this week-end probably on Sunday. Ron loves meat loaf.
My sil will get deployed more I am sure. He is in for life and not just for 4 years. He is going to try and stay in for 20 years and then retire. I hope that he can make it that long. They do not send the families with the husband when they are deployed anymore. Even if they go to Germany. They go for shorter periods of time and then they come back home and a different group goes over. I do not understand the reasoning for that but that is they way they are doing it. The service has really changed since we were all younger.
I hope that Tillie, Marissa and you made it to the beauty shop without getting too hot. Also hope that you went out to lunch and had a good time while you were out. That is the best thing is going out to lunch and just sitting and talking.
Well that is about all from here have a good night. Thank you for the prayers they are appreciated.
