      Hi Everyone,
Time is marching on and another month has arrived. Time to start thinking about bidding summer farewell-boo hoo-as we in the northern climes know what’s to come.

      Hi DD,
Love the cute owls! I hope that you get a break from the heat soon. Greg said yesterday that the town where he works was all smoky from wildfires in Canada but a different part of Canada from where you get the smoke. They must need rain badly up there. Greg was up in Ontario a few weeks back but I can’t remember if he said it rained or not. Happy Labor Day weekend!

      Hi DD!
Love the owls. They are one of my favorite birds.
You will not believe this one. the air is shut off, and after having the windows open last night, the temperature in the house is 64. Gary wants to put the heat on. Seriously????
I will bake Heather’s favorite bar cookie, as I have cream cheese left over from last week’s BJ’s trip. Plus, Amanda was sad because nobody saved her a piece, so she will come by tomorrow to get some. She is working, and Lady GaGa will be performing at Fenway Park. I told her should Lady GaGa come into the restaurant, get a pic with her for her old grandmother, who loves Lady Ga Ga. With the outfits she wears, she is going to freeze in Boston tonight.
Hope your weather is not as hot as they predict. I wish I could send you some cool breezes!!!

      Hi Gail
Love the Fall pictures- my favorite season.
Time to start baking. It is chilly in here- 64 degrees in the house. Do you believe it?? the air was on until late yesterday. Gary wants to put the heat on, so I will bake to make it warmer in here.
Hope your weather is warmer than here……

      Hi Adele,
Glad you loved the dishes that you got. Then it’s worth it to try and find the space. I always use placemats on our kitchen table. I have ones for all the different seasons and they make the table look cheerful and colorful. In fact I may have a slight placemat obsession. lol
We are supposed to get some cooler weather too. This weekend is the start of the balloon festival in town. It looks a little windy so that is not good for those who have signed up for balloon rides. I just hope it doesn’t create traffic problems like it did last year.
One thing I noticed about all the rescues this time is they are not making people leave their pets behind but are letting them bring them with. So many famous people are making some really generous donations so that’s a good thing-plus all the people like us who are giving what we can-it should all add up to a lot of help. It doesn’t make up for losing everything but it does show that as a nation we are willing to work together for the greater good.
You must be confusing me with someone else or you’re hitting the bottle as Kendall is in 4th grade this year-that is no where near high school. lol Piper has the same teacher as she is still in preschool-her aunt Miss Kelly. Kind of makes her sound like a bar maid in a western. lol
We don’t really have any plans for the weekend. We’ll wing it!

Is it Sept already? Where did summer go. Tomorrow is to be cold & rain. I am with Gary almost time to turn on the heat. I am baking brownie mallow bars so that will warm it up in here.

Not my business but I think Adele may have Kendall mixed up with Adam’s girls as they are older.

      Hey Gail!
Where in the world did I get the idea Kendall was in high school this year? Dear Lord! Is one of Colleen’s in their first year of high school?
I did order place mats. I had to finally give in, or this table will be a mess.
Those balloon festivals must be pretty to see. I do remember the traffic nightmare it created for you last year.
I agree. All the stars giving a lot of money is fabulous. Everyone has been pitching in, no matter how big or small their gifts are,and it all helps. So many of them have no insurance, and even if they do, and do not have flood nothing is covered.
every time I see a new piece on the flood, it just breaks your heart. The death toll continues to climb. They are not saying, but, I think it is because they are now searching all the homes, one by one. This is so terribly sad. I have always said, nothing can control the water. Nothing. I cannot understand why people are intent on living close to a body of water. These poor people did no even live that close to a body of water, and look what happened to them.
I did make cookies today, so that should make the crew here happy. Makes the house smell warm to.
      Hope your day went well.

Love the beautiful pictures. Love the fall days and nights. It does make me want to bake and bake. So today I am doing some apple turnovers. They are beginning to smell so good. I just cannot believe that Monday is Labor Day. We are planning a small BBQ with Joey and Lisa. We had lots of rain yesterday and last night, but today is sunny and cooler. Joeys replacement didn’t come in to work until 3 hours late, so he worked until after 10 this morning. I had baked some turkey legs for dinner last night with fresh corn on the cob, rolls, creamed potatoes and peas. He stopped by on his way home this morning to pick up his. He told us he was so glad to have this and he was going to go home, eat, and take a good sleep.
Got a little disappointing news from Neal today. He had put in for a transfer back home a few months ago; and the manager at the airport here has been calling him and updating him on his transfer with nothing but positive news, and then yesterday he gets a call from the regional HR people who say for all these different regulations he will not be able to transfer at this time, that he feels it will now probably be around two years before it will come through. Jerry was so upset thinking about how much we will be missing them and of us being away from the baby that he literally had to get off the phone for a few minutes. I held it together on the phone, with the most positive parent talk I could muster up at the time, and then he got back on the phone and did his “this is all for a reason, and you all will be fine” father/son talk, and we changed the subject and began to talk about their trip they just go back from in Lake Tahoe. We are heartbroken, but blessed all in the same moment. So we are trying very hard to get used to the idea of the news. Guess we just got our hopes up too much.
Hope you all are doing well. Hope you are feeling better, Colleen. Sorry to make this short, just kind of feel like some one stuck a pin in me and all the air went whooshing out. Take care and enjoy your weekend. Love to all, Barbara

      Hey Barbara
That is very disappointing news. Maybe something will open up a little sooner. two years is a long time, especially at our ages, as we never know what wrench will be thrown our way to affect our mobility. Thank God for the skype thing. At least you can interact with Colin. We will all be praying for a better answer.
My heart goes out to Jerry. that must have been awful for him to hear, and then have to compose himself. You will need to bake a lot, to get over this one.
I was looking forward to our Amanda coming over before she went to work today, and she called saying she has to get in early, and close late. Because of Lady Ga Ga being in town, she has to park a half hour’s walk away from the restaurant, and gets out at 4:00 am. It really bothers me that she is walking alone to her car at that hour. We all worry bout our kids and grands, and that never leaves us. Honestly, I feel like driving to Boston at 3 to wait for her. Gary thinks I am nuts.
I would say the wind was taken out of your sails with the call you got. That is the expression we use up here. I am truly sorry, Missy Barbara.
      Praying for you.

Thank you so much for your kind words Adele. We are just “accepting” our news; but it has been a very long time since I have seen Jerry so upset. He has so many things he wants to experience with our baby; and I know so many of his memories come from remembering his own Dad and how he and our boys spent such good times together. All the boys speak with such love of the time they spent with Paw Paw; and Jerry and I have had such lonliness since we have been away from both our sons and grandchildren. But the baby has captured his heart so much; and I don’t think I really realized how much he has missed just being a “Daddy” since our boys have grown up, and I guess he had found someone to really love with all his heart and not have to be the “Daddy” part of Colins’ life but could be the loving “Grandpa”. He has just cried; it has broken my heart. I am trying to hold myself together for him; so I told him earlier that we are going to go out for dinner in a little while, and enjoy this beautiful evening. I want to sit out by the pond in the car when we come home, and watch for the owl, and the deer. And tomorrow; I am going to get him up and going early, and take a day drive about a hundred or so miles away, have lunch, and just look at some old antebellum homes in that area. He loves trees, as you all know, LOL, so that should give him something to get interested in, and talk about. I agree with you about your concern for Amanda getting off so late and her safety. They just don’t get too old for us not to worry about them, and young folks get so busy that it is hard for them to think about all the things we have experienced in our lives that give us concern for them. It sounds like she is really a hard worker, and so dedicated, that I know you all must be very proud. Just continue to keep reminding her of always being aware of her surroundings, and I say something on TV the other day of this little clip on thing that you can put on anything, like your beltloop, your bracelet, your bag, through a button loop, well you get the picture and it just has this big red button in the middle of it and if you push it if you need help of anykind, and it immediately shows the monitoring place your location even if you are unable to speak at the time. It was not expensive, and I am looking into one for Jerry and one for me. I am so sorry that the name escapes me right now, but I will find out should you be interested. I am thinking of suggesting one for Sarah so she can have one with her at all times while she is out with the baby, and to my other DIL so she will have one with her at all times. It is not just for the elderly.
Well, I am going to get Mr. Jerry and we are going to have some dinner and ride around our big, little town. I surely hope everyone is doing well. I feel so badly for all those poor flood victims. This is just so terrible. My prayers are surely going out for them. And even all the little animals who are suffering through all this. I know so many of them have been forgotten. Take care everyone. The two lonely grandparents

      Hi Ladies,
I have really missed out on a lot. I just realized that this is the page for September. Gail thank you for all the pictures of fall decorations. I will try to catch up guess that I will have to go back to the August page and start from there.
Barbara I am sorry to hear that Neil and his family will not be able to come home soon. Like Adele said maybe an opening will come up you never know these days. That is hard on grandparents when their grandchildren move away. My youngest daughter has moved to Tennessee and we will not get to see them as often as before. I will miss my two grand kids they are older but they are just getting to the interesting age. I hope that you can get Jerry to start thinking about other things and cheer up a little.
Gail the pictures that you posted are so cute. I live the one with the dog dressed in the bus coat. How cute is that. He seems to like it he did not have that look on his face like he wanted to get out of it right away. How is your eye doing now? Have you had anymore problems? Hope that it does not act up again.
Adele I do not have a grand that is starting high school this year. I have one that is a sophomore this year and one that is just starting college. They are all so far apart that it is hard to keep all of them straight. How is Tillie doing and all of the people that we have been praying for. Is Winnie out of the nursing home yet? Hope that she is getting better quickly.
DD hope that things are going okay where you are. Are you still having all that hot weather? Our weather has cooled down a lot. We have one day next week that is supposed to get up to 90 and then it is supposed to cool down again. I hope that they are right about the cool down.
Well that is about all from here. I will try and catch up with all that is going on.

      Hi Barbara
I hope you had a great time at dinner, and having good weather for your trip out today. that sounds like a nice plan for you and Jerry to enjoy your time together, and have memories of a nice day. I love owls!! i have never seen one in the wild. I have heard them, but never had the pleasure of a sighting. What a nice ending of your day.
Our day is not so nice. We have the remnants of the hurricane- rain, wind and yuck. So, I am doing our favorite meatless lazy Sunday meal- popovers. Since they have so much eggs and milk in them, I call them protein….LOL LOL they are easy to make, but do take time baking.
Amanda is coming for dinner, she gets out at 3 today. We are all very proud of her. She made 300.00 in tips yesterday- thank you, Lady Ga Ga. No sighting of her, so I got no pic….LOL Also good was that another girl closed, so Amanda was not walking to her car so late at night.
I would love to order those buttons, as both Amanda and Marissa work late nights. Heather got both of them a decorative thing on their key chain- that has mace in them. That still does not make me feel better, as a bad person ahs to get pretty close to them for the mace to work. We are living in dangerous times, and that is so sad.
I am also sick over those poor people in the flood areas. I cannot imagine. I saw in today’s Sunday paper the prices of waterfront property up here- in the millions. I think anyone who lives on the ocean is nuts. I always browse through the real estate section, as I find it interesting. Also love to watch HGTV. One of my favorites.
I hope you and Jerry can find some comfort on the skype with little Colin. It is so hard that is the only way to see him. My heart aches for both of you. You are such wonderful grandparents, and Colin would be so terribly lucky to have you in his life, so you can hug the stuffing out of him. My little’s get the biggest kick out of me saying that to them.
Two years will go by fast, and they will be back before you know it. Plus, God works in mysterious ways. Maybe something will change- we will all be praying for that.

      Hi Colleen
I am so glad you are back on here, as we were all worried. So good to hear from you.
I hope your grand in college love sit and does well. It is such an exciting part of their lives. College teaches them how to think, and analyze everything around them. I am adding a prayer for her success.
It is hard to keep all our grands straight….LOL
Tillie is ok. She has not been feeling great lately, and I think it is because she got a huge bag of Ghirardelli chocolates from BJ’s, and I am afraid to ask how much is left….LOL
Winnie went home last Monday, and she is doing really well. Her PT person took her out walking, and she loved that.
So many people are having awful health issues. My friend Nancy’s nephew has brain cancer, and Max’s granddaughter has blood clots in her lungs- they think from all the exercising playing soccer. Two neighbors have issues- one with prostate cancer, and one with heart problems. It makes you realize (again) how precious life is.
Hope your day is goign well and you and Ron are doing something nice for yourselves this weekend.

      Hi Ladies,
Sorry for the delay. I’ve been busy trying to unpack from the bug thing. she FINALLY signed off that I didn’t have em any more. I actually started doing a little bit before hand just nothing the bugs could hide in.
It’s hotter than he– out here!! And the state of Oregon is in flames!!! I don’t know if you’ve heard or not that we have 17 or 18 fires going on right now. We sure could use some of that rain you guys have right about now. This Labor day weekend is going to be the hottest on record. Monday we’re supposed to hit 100+!!! On top of that the smoky haze has returned. It had cleared out when the ocean breeze came thru for a few days. The haze isn’t too bad right now, but will get worse in the next couple days. the kids return to school Tues. & they predict 100 degrees that day. since the schools don’t have AC they’re going to let the kids out early, just like they do when it snows. This will be a first in history. Normally the temps start dropping by the end of Aug. first of Sept. Not this yr.

Say, did any of you catch ITDW Mary Beth today? She was filling in for David today. At the end of the show a call came in from Eric in Pa. It was her son calling to let her know ( & the viewing audience) that she was going to be a grandmother for the first time. It was soooo sweet.
Tara was there with a couple things from Temptations. One was a new pie plate w/ a carrier & the other had been on before, a set of bowls, w/ a patter, I would love to have it but it’s too much for me, I don’t have a family. I did order a small set of 3 bakers in Pumpkin Patch. they don’t look all that big.
I haven’t read the posts yet so if I don’t comment on em that’s why.
I’m recovering from the fall nicely. I still have some pain, but nothing like before; I can go to the store, & normal housekeeping. Well I guess that’s all for now.
Have a great Labor day, & a great week.

      HI DD
You sure have enough heat for the whole country. I have seen the fires on the news, and I hope you get rain soon. I also heard California is declaring a state of emergency for their fires. It seems like entire west coast is in flames. Not good at all. My prayers are with all of you.
I was watching ITKWD, but I missed the announcement of her being a grandmother. How cute is that??
Thank God you have finally been cleared of any bugs. Now, your life can get back to normal. Please be careful putting the stuff away, so you will not hurt yourself again. It is so easy to re-injure something at our ages. I do it all the time, and then it puts me back again, for weeks.
I am praying for rain for you. We seem to be in the way for the next hurricane. they are watching it closely, and hoping it will go out to sea.
Hope your day is going well.

      Hi Everyone,
Barbara, I’m very sorry for your disappointment about Neal being able to come home soon. It’s a good idea to take Jerry out and try to distract him from his sorrow at least for a little while. We are so lucky to be close by our grands. Greg wanted to move to somewhere warmer after retirement but I told him I wasn’t leaving the grands so he would have to go by himself. Now by the same token I wouldn’t mind renting a place in Florida for a month in winter to get a break from the weather but I wouldn’t want a permanent move. It’s bad enough one child is in NM and we only see him about once a year. I really don’t know how my parents and Greg’s parents did it living so far from their kids and grands. I guess they just had to find other ways to keep busy in their lives. Sometimes these things just can’t be helped as work seems to take families in all different directions and we do have to work to live. Anyway, I’m praying that Neal gets an assignment closer to home before the two years are up. These things can change as different circumstances arrive.
I just got an e-mail from my local shelter that they are getting in 20 dogs from Texas on Sept. 9th. I know that shelters all over the country have stepped up to help the animals in the flooded areas-so it’s good to know both the people and the animals are being taken care of.
Colleen, I’m glad you liked the pictures. I like the one of the Corgi dressed like a bus too. He looks so cute! My eye is doing good so far and i have been off the meds about two weeks now-so knock wood. I still am getting that twitch in my eye but they keep telling me that is nothing to be disturbed about-except it’s a pain in the neck! lol
Adele, too bad-no Lady Gaga but that was a good haul in tips for Amanda. I like HGTV too especially House Hunters-it’s my favorite show for yelling at the TV when these people complain about the color of a room or they all need the perfect house from the get go and everything is a “gut job.” How spoiled are these young people. Our first house was a fixer but we couldn’t afford to do all the work immediately. Greg did it over many years-we were just grateful to be home owners at all. I laugh when they talk about something built in the late 90’s is outdated like once you own a house you change the fixtures and everything else every five years to keep up with the styles. Who could afford that? I think once they own those homes and kids come along and life intervenes that you have more to think about than having your house redone with every new style that comes along. I guess i have a love/hate relationship with those shows.
DD, I hope that you get rid of the heat soon. I’m glad that you can finally unpack your stuff and get back to normal. I didn’t see ITKWD but I read about the announcement to Mary Beth on the Q boards. I’ll bet she’ll make a great grandmother-she seems so sweet and loving.
Hey-you guys I must be psychic. The other day I was getting my breakfast and just thinking that I’ll bet William and Kate will be having another baby soon and I walk over and turn on my computer and the first thing i read is that Kate is pregnant again! How’s that for foreseeing the future? Now if only those lottery numbers would come to me in a dream. lol

      Good afternoon Ms. Gailster soothsayer……

That was hysterical. Are they having a boy or a girl??
Waitressing in Boston is one of the few places you can make that much on a busy night- mostly connected to some big event nearby. That is why she continues to end up there. But, I always tell her she has to factor in tolls, gas, parking, and tickets to the bottom line. i hope Bobby can help her find a good job on this side of Boston.
I am also amused by the young kids who want to gut everything, immediately. Who does that? It takes a lifetime to get a house exactly the way you want it. One project at a time. these new home buyers think they will get everything they want in a home. I have one message for them….build it. It would be amusing to see how many things on their “wish list” would be quickly eliminated when they get the price for each one.
It is sunny and very humid up here today. Supposed to be a lot of thunderstorms, etc, by late tomorrow. not a good day to sit outside, for sure.
Hope your day is good! Quacker is on at 4 over here today.

      Hi Ladies,
I imagine you’re all watching QF right now. I ordered the velour vest & shirt in chocolate(vest) with the orange(leaves) top. I don’t have anything for fall. I have every other season tho. There were so many I wanted, but I went for that set. Now I need a pair of fall color pants to go with it.
Well, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there’s a horrible fire going on just outside of Portland. Actually it’s in the East part of the county. It was started by teenagers lighting fireworks over the weekend. I can’t say on here what I’d like to say. I just hope the authorities come down on em with a sledgehammer.
IT’s up to 10,000+ acres & headed West. The smoke is so bad it looks like a foggy October day. It’s really bad. Ash is falling like snow, except it’s 90+ degrees outside. the weather’s supposed to take a turn for the better tomorrow, but that’s not soon enough. Some small communities are on evacuation alerts. Some have already been evacuated. It’s a NIGHTMARE!!!!
Hey Gail, do you see any rain in our near future? I sure hope so!!!!
I just got an update: According to a witness she heard the teenagers giggling as they threw the fireworks down into a canyon. She reported it but by that time the fire was already going. I’ll bet those kids aren’t laughing anymore.
well, I better close for now.

      Hi Gail
That is interesting that you can predict when royalty is going to have a child. Poor Kate is so sick. I guess that she has the same thing that she had when she was pregnant with her son. I cannot remember what they called it. I hope that she gets over it soon and does not end up in the hospital again.
Is the shelter looking for people to take them in? Are you thinking about it? I would not mind taking a dog in but the other dogs may not be too friendly to it. We would have to build another run for a dog we took in for awhile. I hope that they find a home for all of them until their owners can come and get them and take them home again.
I remember moving into our first house. We had a lot of fixing up to do also. We had to paint and put new carpet down. I cannot believer all the new fixtures that they want now and taking walls down and all of that. Why would you buy the house if it needed that much done to it. I know about being so excited when we got our house. We were just glad to move in and enjoy the house. I was pregnant with Danyielle so that made it even that more special.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi Adele,
I hope that Tillie is feeling better. My mom is doing pretty good. It just amazes me how Tillie and my mom are still getting around like they are. I hope if I live to be that old I will be able to get around like they do.
How nice that Winnie is at home now. It is nice when you get to go home and be in your own house. That was nice that the pt person took her outside to walk for awhile. She must have some really good pt persons there. Hope that she was a successful as Sue has been.
Oh my gosh everyone is falling apart. I hope that they will be feeling betters soon. That is bad about the woman’s grandson and the other girl with the blood colts. That must be terrible. It is terrible how these young people that play sports have all these problems. Will add them to my prayer list.
Not a whole lot going on here. I have to get my hair cut tomorrow that will be nice. I do not want it to be this long. I need to get it cut short.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

Love the pictures that you posted on here. They are so cute. I like the poster talking about getting old. The one about going into a room and remembering why I went in there. That can be a problem sometimes. lol
I am glad that you can start putting your things away. That was terrible that you had to have that all packed up like that. That is terrible that you are having all of those fires there. We had some of the smoke from that here. It was not a big problem it was just because of the way the wind was blowing. We just had a brown haze over the clouds. We did not even notice it until they said something about it on the news. I cannot imagine how bad it must be there. Just take care of yourself and do not go outside unless it is necessary.
We are having your weather here. It is really cool here and in the 70″s. It is usually still hot here this time of the year. Hope that it does not come back our way until next summer. It would be nice if it left your area also. Those poor kids having to go to school in that 100 degree weather. I cannot imagine how hot it will be in the class rooms.
I hope that they catch the kids with the fire crackers. How stupid was that. They should have to do a lot of clean up and help a lot of people that are losing everything they own. Why do kids do that.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi DD,
I have that two piece set with the orange shirt with the leaf and brown vest. I think I wore it for Thanksgiving last year with some sort of brown pants. Those are such cute sets and you can wear the vest with lots of other things or just for a little added warmth in the fall and spring.
I did hear about the awful fires out there. Unfortunately teenagers do not have mature enough brains to think of all possible consequences. How awful that people will lose their homes and all those forests will be burned because of a prank. We are just having too many disasters going on in our country right now. Irma is heading towards Florida too. All those fires must be so hard on people with breathing problems.
I may be able to predict royal pregnancies but I am dense when it comes to tee shirts-I have tried and tried and i just don’t get the rock one with the trick or treating ghosts. I’m sure when someone explains it i will slap my head for my stupidity. lol

      Hi DD
That is awful about the kids with the firecrackers. They should knwo better. I hope nobody is harmed, or loses their property because of the fire. I hope you get some rain to stop all of the fires. That is not good to breathe in.
i missed the show yesterday. I turned it on too late. I love the Fall shows, and I am sorry I missed it.
I hope you enjoy your new Fall tops. That was a good choice to get the one with the vest.
      Love your pictures!!
I am praying for rain for all of you out there. We just had some bad thunderstorms move through, and more coming. I wish I could send you some.

      Hi Colleen,
I can’t remember the name of what they call that extreme morning sickness that Kate gets either. I guess she is suffering with it again though-poor thing. I hope it passes quickly. I never really had morning sickness. I guess I was just so happy to be pregnant once I got over the shock of having babies 10 months apart that i would have put up with any kind of morning sickness without complaint.
The dogs that they are bringing up from Texas were already in shelters down there so they will be looking for permanent homes for them. They were mostly asking for donations of all the things they need to keep the shelter running. I guess we are on the list as we do give donations sometimes.
I guess people buy a house they can afford and then knock down walls and such to make it more liveable for their particular needs. Greg did all the work on our old house. We had an attached two car garage that didn’t have a door into the house. He took half of that garage and moved the two bedrooms downstairs into there and then we had a little family room off the kitchen with the extra room that it gave us. He also added a bathroom with a little shower stall into one area of the mudroom in the back of the house. So he did a lot of work all on his own. And of course in this house he finished off the basement with a recording studio, rec room, bedroom and bathroom. It came in handy when Brent moved back after Kim died because he had his own floor down there to himself so he had some privacy.
We are having cool weather right now-mid 60’s. Greg’s already complaining-what a wimp.

      Hi Colleen
Tillie did not feel so good again last night, and ended up not coming up for dinner. It is a little after noon, and she is still sleeping. I will wake her up shortly, as I heard her talking to bobby when he got up for work at 6:00am.
It is awful about all these kids who are so sick. My friend with the granddaughter and the blood clots, has a nice who was taken off life support yesterday- she had cancer, and got through it, and now did not survive pneumonia. Her system was too weak. Such an awful shame. So many people seem to be sick lately. Just awful.
Winnie is doing very well, and everyone is happy about that.
We are getting blasted with thunderstorms today. Getting 1 to 2 inches of rain today. I have the Mass for my Dad tomorrow, and it is also Gary’s birthday, with PT for the middle of the day to….LOL It is going to be busy tomorrow! No cake planned as Gary is always late coming home on a Thursday. We will do it another day.
I hope your haircut comes out fabulous, and you knock em dead with your sparkle and shine!!

      Hi Adele,
Did you and Tillie do any Quacker damage yesterday? I ordered the shirt with the leaves around the neck in black. Don’t know why I went for the black as i usually go for colors but i just liked the contrast between the black and the orange and gold leaves.
No, my soothsaying powers don’t seem to be extending to being able to predict boy or girl. What if it was one of each? lol
Gosh, I don’t know who i want to go forward on AGT tonight. Everyone is good-you hate to see people go home at this point. It’s hard to predict who voters will choose. Don’t forget to watch the results tonight as one of your favorite acts from last year-the guy and girl mentalists will be on tonight. Maybe they know whether the new royal baby will be a boy or a girl. lol
I agree-those couples should try building a house and see the individual cost of every item that they want and they would change their tune. I like when they want a master suite with all the bells and whistles, granite countertops, all the fancy appliances all for 150,000. Yeah right! I have also noticed that everyone wants white kitchen cabinets now so that is the new in thing. Five years from now it will be something else. Plus i see that gold is coming back in fixtures but now it is a brushed gold. Jenny just painted all her kitchen cabinets and the cabinets in one bathroom white. It looks nice. It was a lot of work but well worth it as the cabinets are nice tall cabinets but she just didn’t like the oak finish. Fortunately after 20 years i still like my natural hickory cabinets and they still look good and are in good shape.

      Hey Gail!
I think it is very funny too, about what these kids their money will buy. I would hate to be a realtor right now.
I missed the show, but, i did just order the black with the leaves too- I also liked the contrast.
I will definitely be watching the show tonight. I cannot say at all who I would eliminate, accept the girl with the 2 dogs. I just do not think she is worth the prize. Her story is sad, but, she has enough notoriety to get some good gigs now.
i have never seen a show where all the acts are great. this is unusual, and nice to see.
Hope your day is good……still raining and grossly humid up here.

      Hi Gail,
I must have missed a Quacker show. I have one on the dvr that I will watch tonight but that is about it. For some reason my dvr is not taping all of the shows now. I am going to have to look on here and find the dates for shows and set it up that way.
I had morning sickness with the first two and then with Melissa I did not have it. I was on insulin shots while I was pregnant with her I wonder if that had something to do with it.
The ones that I am talking about are the ones that go thru the houses and they find one that they really like and the cannot afford it. So then they buy a cheaper house and have people remodel the whole thing. The one that I was watching was property brothers. By the time they knock down walls and put in new kitchens and all of that the house seems to be just as expensive. I guess it is just me.It is nice when you can do the work yourself and it sure is cheaper. Sounds like Greg did a really good job on your house. He did a lot of work.
Our weather here has been really nice also. I hope that it stays this way until next summer. We could use a break. I love fall weather and all the leaves changing colors. It is always so pretty. I wonder if we will have the pretty fall colors this year since we did not have that much rain. The leaves may not turn all the colors they may just start to fall off.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Adele,
I am sorry to hear that Tillie is still sick. Hope she gets better soon. Maybe she has the blahs. It is that time of year. All the kids are back in school and the days are getting shorter.
That is terrible. That girl fought cancer and then dies of pneumonia that is just so sad. I hope they get the blood clots dissolved for your friends daughter. That is sad also.
Tell Gary that I said Happy Birthday! Will you have a special meal for him this week-end? What is his favorite cake? You always bake the cakes that they like your family are very lucky. We do not have any more birthday’s around here until November. My granddaughter will turn 16. It does not seem possible. Those two girls are growing so fast. It will not be long and she will be graduating high school.
You really got hit by the storms. That was a lot of rain. It has been so nice here. I know that we will get more warmer weather it is getting cool too quickly. We can have really warm weather at the beginning of October. It doesn’t seem possible it is almost time to start planning for the hay ride. The summer went by so fast.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Ladies,
No good news to report about the wildfire out here. It exploded a couple nights ago & merged with another wildfire, making it over 32,000 acres. The wind has changed from East to West. the East wind is what put all that smoke & ash here in Portland & surrounding area. Colleen, I doubt you’re getting any of our smoke. It isn’t going anywhere, it’s been spreading west due to the east winds. But as of today the winds have changed so they’re saying the smoke could clear out in the next few days.
The Oregon Humane Society took in a plane load of dogs from Texas to help out the shelters down there. OHS is always helping out other shelters, Ca., Texas, & whoever needs help.
Gail, that tee shirt is of Charlie Brown, (Peanuts). It’s from ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’. he gets rocks instead of candy.
Adele, could you send some of that rain out here? It sure would help the fire fighters with the wildfires out here!! It doesn’t sound good as far as Irma’s concerned. I know Fla is in the bulls eye, but I wonder how far it’ll go.
I got a pair of the TSV today. Denim & co. stretch corduroy pants in camel. I’ve never had stretch corduroy before. Just the old cords from yrs ago. Camel should go with my QF set for fall.
I’m almost back to normal, I’ve unpacked almost everything. Slow but sure.
Since I never had any kids, this may sound like I’m stupid. I thought that after a woman had her first child, the morning sickness would let up & not be as severe with kids later on. I’ve heard the first one is always the hardest.
I just heard only one home has been lost in the fire. Others are still in danger however. No lives have been lost.
      well, that’s all for now

      Hey Colleen
Today is my last day at PT. I had a Mass for my Dad this morning, and just could not make it. It has been so rainy and humid, my whole body is achy. I just could not get going that early- it was a 9:00 am one. I called the church, and then also booked the one for next year, at a much better time and on a weekend.
Tillie has just not been feeling great lately. She feels it is her age. I get nervous thinking she may start to fail. She reminds me she is 91, and should have days she does not feel great. Then add all this humidity and low pressure systems.
Get this. yesterday Maxine fell, and could not put any weight on one side, so she dialed 911. She broke her pelvis, and they kept her in the hospital for observation. I am not sure if she is coming home today. She has so much going on, and now this.
I will tell Gary all my Quacker friends said Happy Birthday- thank you! His favorite cake is a Boston Cream, or a regular old fashioned cake with frosting- lots of frosting….LOL I will do that over the weekend.
Hey- one of the Property Brothers will be on DWTS!
I am praying the hurricane slows down and does not do as much damage as the Texas one did.

      Hi DD
I hope the smoke is goign away, and you are getting some rain. That’s just awful. These wild fires are popping up all over the west coast because of the drought. We had a drought last year, and it is definitely over on this side.
I never got morning sickness with either child. But, I would faint, whihc was pretty scary. The doctor gave me some medication to stop the fainting. I have no idea what it was,and wish I knew. that doctor died generations ago.
Please take it easy un-packing. Look what happened to my friend- she broke her pelvis yesterday.
I hope you love your new Fall things!!
hope you get some rain soon.

      Hi DD,
I think the smoke that Colleen was getting was the same smoke that we were getting last week which was coming down from Canada. Fortunately that is gone now-I guess there were strong winds those days.
Thanks for explaining the tee shirt. I just puzzled over that for the longest time and i guess i have not seen the Great Pumpkin cartoon for awhile as Greg doesn’t like Peanuts. Can you believe that?!! I tell him that is unAmerican. lol
The camel pants should go nice with the fall shirt and vest.
I saw there was some rain in the Pacific NW this morning so I hope that you get some.
I think morning sickness is so individual with each person and pregnancy. Jenny had it with all three kids-pretty bad too.
I hope that you will get some rain.

      Hi Colleen,
That is interesting. I wonder if the insulin did help with the morning sickness. Do you have to do anything different when you are diabetic and pregnant. I know a friend’s daughter was a type one diabetic and she had a rough time with pregnancy. Consequently that was the only child that they ever had.
I know what you mean-how can those people buy the cheaper house because that’s what they can afford and then spend all the money to have it fixed up. It doesn’t make sense. Where does the money come from.
The thing that makes me crazy is lets say they say their budget is 350,000-and they look at a house for that price and then complain that that house’s cost is at the top of their budget. It makes me want to slap them! lol If you don’t want to pay 350,000 then don’t say that’s your budget. Grrrrrr! I don’t know why I like these shows so much when they just aggravate me. lol I guess I get rid of my aggressions by yelling at the dumb couples on the TV. Greg likes the people that have an odd request like a laundry shoot or a tall toilet or something like that. Some of those people-especially the women sound so spoiled too.
I think you missed the last Quacker show because it was under something like Mary’s Closet not Quacker factory. I hate when Dish doesn’t get the update in order to record it automatically. You do kind of have to watch when they post the shows on the site here.

I hope that Tillie will feel better soon. It’s scary when our folks are older and they don’t feel well.
      Tell Gary Happy Birthday!
You have been getting a lot of rain lately. Good thing that wasn’t snow.
It looks like that hurricane will be hitting Florida and unless it fizzles out it will be a whopper. I hope the people who need to evacuate will do so. They said that one little island in the Caribbean was basically demolished. These things are just awful.
Did you see the mentalists on AGT last night. They were good.
I can’t believe how good that little girl ventriloquist is-and so poised for her age. especially because she had said that she was painfully shy. I guess being with the puppets takes away her shyness.

Hello dear friends. Checking in from the cooled off state of Tn. and sitting here with our windows thrown wide open and the glass open half way on our storm doors so the most lovely breeze is blowing through. I am just in a glorious mood right now. I needed this so badly to help “blow away” some of my sadness and lonliness. Jerry and me had just worked ourselves into such a state over missing our “itty bitty” and son. We did do our little get away the other day. That was good for both of us. We reminised about our youth; our dreams; some of the “what if’s” slipped in, and I quickly made us change the subject to something positive. We are going through such a strange time in both our lives. Am I the only one of the group that is having these thoughts and feelings? I don’t really even know how to discribe it. You all seem so upbeat and positive to me and I wish with all my heart I could be more like you. I try; I really really do. Thank you so much for being such a good influence and such good people. This world needs more and more of you.
I was reading your comments about the fires. How terrible for you DD. And the smoke would bother so many. Are you okay? Are they doing special things for people with the respiratory problems? Please take care. So glad the lady finally gave you the “bug” okay. That took forever.
Gail, I thought I was the only person who goes nuts over the home renovation or home buying shows. They sometimes take something I think is beautiful, and just completely destroy it by painting over it or knocking down something, it’s like they only leave the rafters and make a whole new home. I keep yelling to the TV if you didn’t like anything about that house why in the world did you buy it? I had rather go to a builder and developer and design my own home from the ground level up than to do all of that. And then they get half way done and find something gross or chewed up by bugs or mold or something yucky and out that comes and more money. And I am like you; say their top budget is 200,000 and they are going to install tile heated Italian flooring, and they say that will add another 8000; when you know that is it going to cost way more than that. Gosh, guess you can tell we need to stop watching it here too. Jerry gets just as mad. He was the general contractor when we built, and now it seems that everything we chose is so “out of style” now. Glad it still suits us. LOL
Hope Gary has a great birthday. Please say best wishes from us too. You can also let him know that Boston Cream Pie is one of my absolute favorites. I have sure been doing a lot of baking these last few days. Today I did a peach cobbler. I just used canned sliced peaches, and a simple recipe, but it surely smells good. I think that we will put a little ice cream on top and let that drizzle down the sides. Yum, Yum. But before you all get the wrong idea that I have cooked our dinner; I confess; we went to a local hometown small restaurant and got two “to go” dinner plates. Speaking of cooking; anyone have an easy, funny how that word keeps coming up for me, recipe for meat loaf? I am hungry for some, but the last two times I made one; it was dry, and I love lots of sauce or juicyness in mine. And Colleen, if you ever get the time, would you please post your famous potato soup recipe? I love that, and was thinking of it the other day. My Mom used to make it when we were little and not feeling good; and it always made us feel better. She said she used magic potatoes in it that were for sick children to help them feel better; because I remember asking her once what made that potato different to help us get well?
I have really enjoyed the Quacker shows. Angel looks so pretty and happy. I like her hair the way she is wearing it now. I bet she and her husband have lots of fun together. So happy she found someone special. I wonder what he does for a living? I think she said one time.
Isn’t it just terrible about all these storms? I pray for those poor people and their animals every day. And these are such bad storms. It is so good that your humane societies are taking in the little homeless animals. Hope they are reunited with their families. So many do not realize how close we are to our pets, and that adds even more stress to be seperated from the human and furry loved ones.
Better go for now girls. Hope you all have a wonderful evening. I lay in bed listening to our owl again last night. It is so comforting to me. He is a good faithful friend, who I want to believe is the same owl who used to call back to some little boys so many years ago. Take care, hugs, Barbara

You girls were saying you do not know when a Quacker Factory show will be on. Just set a reminder on QVC & they will send an e-mail listing when the show will be on. They also send an e-mail if the time changes for the show or if a show is cancelled, rescheduled. I get them so I always know when they are on.
Barbara be careful as someone in Florida said the storm will be heading your way. The West coast is on fire and the East coast is washing away. I feel terrible for all the people in Harms way. I heard the governor in Fl told the hotels to allow pets. We are getting some of the Texas dogs too. I think they will be adopted. Some people do not have homes left so there is no where to bring the pets home to.
I really feel bad for the people in the Islands. St Maarten was totally destroyed. The airport is gone. It was such a pretty place. Those people lost everything and their jobs rely on tourism and the ocean. They are poor countries and do not have the aid those in USA have.
It is so cold here for this time of year 40’s at night & low 60’s in the day. I am in jeans & sweatshirts to avoid turning on the heat. There is no sign of a warm up. We have been having storms & rain too. Just waiting to see if the hurricane comes all the way up the coast & how far inland. Of course we won’t get what Texas & Florida have or are getting.

      Hi Ladies,
I have some good news & some bad news. The good is the temps have dropped significantly. There is some rain on the way, but thunderstorms come along with it. What we don’t need right now is lightening!!! The bad news is 2 more homes were lost overnight. They don’t know if they were vacant or inhabited before the fire. It’s up to over 32,000 acres now. The winds are coming from the west now that’s why the temps have dropped, & the smoke has cleared out. I could actually see sunlight & the sky!!! It seems like it’s been forever since we’ve been able to breathe & see the sky. The cooler temps should help the firefighters, it should last thru the weekend they say. They also say it’ll be the end of Sept. before it’ll be put out.
There is a good story to tell. They were able to rescue 500 animals, livestock, & one of the county fairgrounds is helping put the animals up till they can go home. One couple actually stayed with their sheep, goats since their dog is their guard dog for the sheep & goats. The dog gets upset if she can’t stand guard over the animals. the fairgrounds is home to chickens, ducks, a turkey, sheep, goats, cows, horses, & a mule. Noah’s ark in other words. LOL
Because we had such a cold, wet winter & spring there is a lot of underbrush giving the fire more fuel to burn. One of the many consequences of this will be when the fall & winter rains come in, there will be mudslides that will take out more homes, roads. One of the main arteries thru the Gorge, I-84 is closed for now due to the fire. It’s already in danger from 2,000 trees taken out by the fire. that also includes rocks & boulders.

Adele, they’re rerunning Tom’s movies on Hallmark Mysteries & Movies this Sat. I’m being careful. It’s when I fall out of bed I hurt myself. I’m surprised I didn’t break a bone last time. Glad I didn’t!! I’m sorry about your friend. Breaking the pelvis has to be really painful. She’ll be laid up for awhile, I would think. Oh, tell your hubby Happy Birthday from Oregon. I’ll hop on my broom & come out for some of your Boston Cream Pie, or one of your cakes. I love white cake with milk chocolate frosting. It’s been too hot to bake anything out here. Maybe over the next few days.
I’ll be praying for all of you out there. That hurricane sounds dangerous & will do catastrophic damage. THis is worse than Katrina. Stay safe & if you’re told to get out, please heed the warning!!!
      Take care

      DD,
Those snowstorm pictures do seem like a long time ago but unfortunately winter will be coming again for us back east.
Those firefighters deserve so much praise and recognition for what they do fighting those forest fires.
We have so many disasters going on right now in our country-plus Mexico just had a big earthquake.
I did love the story of the livestock rescue and the picture of Noah’s Ark in my head.
Speaking of animals on the Today Show this morning they were showing how they were going to try and protect the animals in the Miami Zoo which is something I never thought about. They have lots of concrete buildings-I guess that they built after hurricane Andrew decimated the zoo 25 years ago. No one wants lions and tigers and bears running around loose.
I hope somehow they can get those fires out and that you can avoid those mudslides.

      Hi Sue,
I used to get those reminders from the Q for Quacker and some other TSV’s and then they just stopped. It seems like the Q schedule on our Dish guide has been really messed up lately.
I know what you mean about those poor island nations-they do rely on tourism and if there is nothing there no one will come and their economies will collapse and they will not be able to rebuild.
We have been having the same type of weather as you. I must say I am actually enjoying it. Our house gets a lot of sunlight so I have not felt cold at all as it gets sun during the day and I guess it holds the daylight heat during the night.
We have not been getting the rain though so I guess that is the difference.
We have a nephew and his family in Florida-my SIL talked to them yesterday-they are a ways up the east coast and they are staying put as there is no gas to leave. They have nailed up storm shutters and feel that they will be okay. Now i am wondering if they have thought about power going out and if they have a generator.

      Hi Barbara,
Don’t the cooler temps feel good?
You know I think all of us people of a certain age think about how we will live and what will happen as we age. I don’t think you and Jerry are unusual in that. I just want to spend the time up to the point where those decisions have to be made enjoying our lives and doing things that we want to do and when the time comes we will make the decisions that need to be made. Does that make any sense? I guess I am being like Scarlett O’Hara and thinking about it tomorrow but I have made a concerted effort to try not to worry about something that i have no control over and aging is something that I can’t control. I just want to age as well and as happy as I can.
I like the story about the magic potatoes. My mother always told us she had eyes in the back of her head and that’s how she knew what we were doing behind her back. lol
You know Greg and I never reminisce about our youth. Maybe because we didn’t know each other as children. Now when he gets with his choir friends they reminisce about things they did as kids because they all grew up and got in mischief together.
It just dawned on me that Gary’s favorite is Boston Cream Pie (who doesn’t like that) and they live outside of Boston. lol I wonder if their pie is better there than in the rest of the country.
I’m with you Barbara, I cringe when they paint a brick fireplace with white paint. I guess brick isn’t “in” anymore where i always think of brick as classic.
Our house was custom built so we also picked out all the fixtures and everything. And unfortunately 20 years later all these things are “out dated.” I get kind of insulted when I see these people looking at a home around the same age as ours saying how outdated everything is. Just give them a few years of living in their own house and they will quickly realize that you can’t afford to update everything in your house every five years when the styles change. I think they just must not realize the cost of home ownership and maintenance. You just can’t afford to change the cosmetic parts that often. Some stuff may be out of date but it all still works.

      Hey Gail
I am trying to get some Halloween decorating done today. Got the boxes out of one small closet- only 2 so far. tomorrow, I will try to do another one, unless I get it done today.
I think that little girl is very talented to. Imagine singing with your mouth closed. I did see the mentalists. i wonder what kind of gigs they got after AGT. I felt bad with the acts that got eliminated. I cannot believe the girl with her dog got through. Her story is very sad, but, I did not think the act was that good. The dogs seem a little out of control, as they are always going after Tyra. Plus the 2 of them fighting over the frizbie? It looked like she was a little embarrassed by it all. I think the chorus and the man who sang on the subway were better than she. But, that is just my opinion. It feels like the voting is on the stories this year, and not the talent. Your thoughts?
Tillie is better. I wonder if it was all the rain and humidity. It was very hard for me to do what I was supposed to at PT yesterday, as I was so stiff and sore. That is why I was thinking Tillie was reacting to the rain/humidity too.
I have a lot of posts to read….LOL I hope I get to them all today.

      Hi Barbara
We have been watching the news on the storms too. Now, they are saying it will eventually come your way. I hope it is less potent, as it usually is after it is going over land. I cannot imagine living in Florida, or any of the southern states right now. Hurricane season seems very powerful this year. My prayers are goign out to everyone.
I am so glad you and Jerry had your nice outing. My answer to your question is yes, we frequently talk of the old days, and choices not taken. I think old age is a time for reflection on the good and bad in our lives. the choices we made, and why, and now that we look back, wonder what would have happened if we took the other path.
I try my best to be positive, and believe me, there are a lot of day it is very hard. Like yesterday. None of Gary’s biological family called to say Happy Birthday. But, his son certainly knows our number when he needs a part for his car. That pisses me off so bad, that now, when he calls, I am barley civil, and just hand the phone to Gary.
Gary is so mad about the treatment he gets that he refused to call his granddaughter to wish her well in college. I went against his wishes, and sent her an email. She responded yesterday, and I made a comment about his birthday, hoping she would call him. She said she had not spoken to her parents that day, and thought his birthday was today, to wish him well, and she would call him last night. of course, she did not. So, i did tell him I had emailed her, and she wished him a Happy Birthday. Oh well.
Are you making any preparations for the storm?
Here is my suggestion on the meatloaf. First, do not use a 90% fat free meat. It is even better if you use a mixture of ground chuck and regular hamburg you get at the supermarket. Here is how I mix it:

Depending on the size, one to 2 eggs
      a handful of Italian breadcrumbs
      a handful of Parmesan cheese
      salt and pepper
      chopped parsley

mix it, without over mixing it…..according to The Chew you break down the meat when you mix it too much

Place it in a 9×13 temptations pan, or put it in a Temptations bundt pan, and top with a generous amount of ketchup. I have also recently cut up potatoes, and placed them aorund the meatloaf- they soak up some of the juices of the meat, and taste fabulous. Of curse, you cannot do that if you do the bundt pan thing.

I hope that helps. Hope you continue to enjoy the nice weather.

      Hi Sue!
We now have cooler temps and no humidity. It took days of rain to get there.
I am horrified at what the TV is saying. I am also shocked at the people I know in Florida, who are not leaving. I would have packed up the car, and gone as far north as I could. I am a big chicken when you talk of flood and tornadoes.
I am doing some Halloween decorating, while listening to the news of Florida in line to lose their homes and decorations. This is awful.
I am getting in the mood for apple pies…….
Tomorrow is JJ’s birthday- he will be 11. Imagine? I am getting old, as i have a great-grandson who is almost a teen.
I hope your weather stays sunny and nice!!!

      Hi GG
That is a nice pic of the firefighters. Was it in the newspaper? It is a great shot. They have the most dangerous job, and need to be respected by all. I am glad you are better, and getting some rain. All we are hearing bout over here is the hurricane. From watching MSNBC today, I owuld say they are beginning to panic, and I do not blame them. I would be so scared, were I down there. I hope there will not be any fatalities. So awful for the entire state.
i did get some decorating done, but not much. I was getting tired, and sore, so I stopped for now.
GAyr is still undecided about what cake he wants. he has to decide by tomorrow, especially if it is the Boston Cream, as I need to prepare the cream a day ahead.
Thank you for the heads up on our buddy Tom. I wonder if there will be any new segments this year????
I continue to hope the rain will increase for you, so these awful fires will be over.

      Barbara and Gail
i forgot to say, I also loved the story about the potato soup.
I have a funny for you. When my kids were little and they got hurt, I would say “I will give you a Mummy’s Magic Kiss” and no more pain. It worked, as they stopped crying in a second. the funny thing is, I did that because the crying would go right through my ears. It is amusing how these things start, and when they find out as adults, they are horrified….LOL Hey, when you are a single parent you do what you have to do, to keep your sanity.

I also am horrified when they paint bricks, and remove beautiful detail from the older homes. That is the beauty of them.

Some decorating has been done……on to the shower!

      Hey Adele,
You must have been thinking of me when you called DD-GG-except I am Gigi. And I make my grandkids pronounce it with a French accent-Just Kidding!!! lol
I’m glad that Tillie is feeling better.
I just read over on the Q site that the father of that little girl singer died. I figured he must have been bad when he wasn’t with the family on Tuesday. I know this will influence votes but I wish it wouldn’t. I also read they have a Go Fund Me page and when you contribute there you promise to vote for her. I don’t know whether any of this is true or not-they posted it on a discussion on the Q site.
They also said on the Q site that there had been pictures posted-can’t remember if it was Facebook or where of the whole family around him in the bed during his last hours. Really-is nothing private anymore-if someone did that to me I would come back and haunt them! Where has good judgement gone?
I wish they would cut out the backstories-but they won’t as it gives too much dramatic effect and they need the filler to fill up the two hour show. Even The Voice does some of that. One thing American Idol just had the people basically come on and sing although in the later years they got into some back story too. I wish they would throw out the Dunkin Save would and just put through the people that had the most votes. Plus the judges can influence votes just by what they say.
You are not going to like this but i also hear that the dog act that got kicked off is coming back as a wild card. It seems like the judges can make some of the rules up as they go along according to who they think should stay on.
I’m okay with the girl with the dogs going through. Having had dogs for many years and trained them I know how much work is involved. The dogs that she has look to be border collies or border collie crosses and they are very high energy dogs who need a job to do. Actually when they were doing tug of war with the frisbee to me it was like something our dogs would do when they were playing together and I thought it was just dogs being dogs. But that is just my take on it.
By the way, I just saw that the guy you liked last year-I think he was an Italian guy who sung Sinatra and crooner songs is going to be at a place that we sometimes go to to hear concerts. Plus I see that Ed Sheeran (love him) is going to be in the area in concert next week. Maybe I’ll get me one of those $8000.00 close up tickets. Yeah right! lol Who buys those?
I keep on saying I wish Ed Sheeran and Josh Groban would make an album together though I doubt that would ever happen.
I think Gary should ask for the Boston Cream Pie-I wonder why they call it pie when it is really cake? I know-my mind works in goofy ways. Forgive me. Have a good weekend!

Hey Gi Gi…..I make so many typo’s it is not funny.

I never had a dog, so I have no idea on how each breed behaves, etc. I thought they were completely out of control when I saw them with the frisbee. Plus, it gets me nervous when the dog goes after Tyra’s face. So, I am not liking that dog hero at all. I hope you are right, and it is just the dog’s nervous energy.
So,the other dog act is coming back too? What about the chorus? Seriously?? I loved them. I did love the Italian guy from last year. I hope you do go to that concert, and maybe you can get a pic of him, with you and Greg….LOL
That poor girl. How can you sing with all of that going on? You know, with what you just said, it sounds like they are trying to manipulate the vote their way through the pity vote. (Maybe I am too jaded) That is not fair. there are so many acts that are fabulous this year. I did not like the brother and sister- I hated his throwing her aorund, and her head so close to the ground. I know it took a lot of talent, but, I do not think we should condone that behavior. She looks scared to death, every time.
I wonder what DD, Colleen and Sue think about the AGT??
I am showered, and we are waiting for our take out Chinese. I may have Gary help me get the witches and scarecrows out of our closet, as it looks lonely without them out….LOL

Hope you all are having a good evening. So glad that Tillie is feeling better. I bet it did have to do with the weather. I know that it surely does affect me and Jerry. I had my 3 month check up today. Had to have all the labs done; but it wasn’t too bad. The doctors’ office is now a part of the hospital near by and everyone there; including our doctor; is a hospital employee; and almost everyone there is new now. They have their own designated lab people; so the ones who used to dig around on me are now replaced by trained lab personnel and our doctor always has a student doctor working with him; so we are examined by them and then by our doctor. Everything is done electronically and perscriptions are sent over their computer to the pharmacy. It’s a new world. I really like all the new people; and so does Jerry.
Thanks for the news about how that terrible storm could be coming up our way too Sue. We usually get the tornadoes and flooding when the hurricanes come in around New Orleans or Florida. We got some really heavy rain after Harvey made landfall in Texas for abour 48 hours, but thankfully no really bad things. I am so afraid of storms. But this has just been so terrible for the poor people living where so much damage, loss of life and property has occurred or is occuring. I surely am praying for them all.
DD, hope your fires are out or close to being out by now. You are so right that the firefighters are true heroes and deserve so much more respect. There are so many brave people who go out every day and leave their own loved ones behind to protect us. Love your Fall pictures. I bet it is just so beautiful where you live. Is it usually the lightning striking trees that cause the fires? I know you had talked about some young people who purposely started this last one. Man can be the worse enemy of man; can’t they?
Adele, your meatloaf recipe sounds yummy! I am definitely going to make it. I love how you measure; just like me. LOL I describe it just like you; and that just drives the boys crazy. But that’s how I know how to cook. Thank you so much. I love a meatloaf sandwich the next day too.
Better go and fix us some dinner. Hope you all have a grand weekend. Hugs from Tennessee. Barbara

I love cold meatloaf sandwiches the next day too! how funny is that!

Have you put out any Halloween decorations? I hope I am not the only one. I need some normal around here, with all the storm worry. I know a lot of people who have moved to Florida, and only one of them evacuated. I have a lot of retired foster parents down there too. The whole thing is so scary, and I pray everyone will be ok.
I even went on Facebook a few times today, to check on everyone. Not good at all.
I hope when we wake up tomorrow, that the storm has lessened a bit. I also hope it does no damage in Tennessee!
Going in the recliner to see what movie we can watch tonight. Then end the night with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmell, for a good chuckle.
      Stay safe, everyone.

      Hi Ladies,
GG?? That’s a new one, even for me. LOL The weather is so much cooler out here. It’s giving the firefighters a chance to get a handle on the fire. It’s only 7% contained right now. Yes lightning is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to starting these fires in the summer, humans are the biggest offenders. I’ve been watching the cable news stations covering the hurricane. According to a track on my phone, it looks like it will head NW as a tropical depression once it leaves Fl. & Ga., tracking towards Tenn., Kent, & points Northward. Hopefully it’ll have blown itself out by then. We could use some of that rain.
I don’t know if anyone will be interested, but I add some salsa to the mixture, to add onion, green pepper & tomato to the meat. If I don’t add it I do add catchup to the mixture. Another recipe I came across is to add some Stove Top to the meat. Not the whole pkg tho I learned that the hard way. You don’t make the Stove Top, just add the dry mixture. I do put catchup on top.

      Stay safe everyone!!

      Hi DD
I love the upside down owl….LOL Where do you find these pictures? So cute and funny.
I love Stove Top stuffing. When I make it here, I do it with unsalted butter, as there is so much sodium in the mixture already, and it comes out even better. I do the same thing with the Bells Stuffing for the Thanksgiving turkey- unsalted butter.
So glad it got cooler for all of you. It is very cool up here today too. Greta cake baking weather. It is so cool that the butter and eggs will take forever to come to room temp today, so it may be an evening cake. Oh well.
Gary decided on the “Esther Foskett’s Celebration Cake”. That recipe was in Yankee Magazine years ago, and they all love it. A simple vanilla white cake, with buttercream frosting. I have some sugar decorations that I will put on top to make it look fancy. That will be my big job for the day.
We have been watching the news too. Now it looks like the West coast will get more than the east coast of Florida, and they rarely get the brunt of any storm. A lot of people buy homes there, figuring they will not be in harm’s way.
Hope the fires are done in your area.

Adele the cake looks great. Happy Birthday to Gary. I made some pumpkin spice cookies. It was just a Betty Crocker package mix but they are very good. I like to do those for me because it does not make so many.
I was not a happy camper this afternoon as they are messing with our cable & cut our TV off just as the Penn State football game was coming on. It was off for 2 hours. I just think as much as you have to pay you should be able to watch & not have no signal because they cut it off.
Not everyone in Florida could evacuate as there was no gas a lot of places & the highway was jammed with cars. So I guess they figure they will wait it out at home as it would be more dangerous stranded on a highway. It sure is a mess. There was also an earthquake in Mexico.
I am so pleased with Royal Caribbean International as they are sending some of their cruise ships to St Thomas & St Maarten to take supplies to them and to help evacuate people. I am sure there is to much damage to dock but can tender people and supplies. They also have ships off shore waiting out the storm to help in Key West. They also picked up their employees working in Florida & allowed them to stay on the ship out to sea to wait out the storm. They always take the ships out so they don’t bang into the dock during the storm as it is safer.
It is still cold here but the sun is out finally.

      Hey Sue!
It is back to baking weather for sure. I just copied another recipe off an email of mine for apples.
Thank you- the cake is very simple to make. The recipe was from Yankee Magazine. I have been making it for the past few years, and everyone loves the taste of the frosting and cake.
That is really nice of the cruise ship company. It is always great to hear when a corporation helps those in need. it is also rare.
I hate it when the cable goes out, especially when you were waiting to see the game. Can you “on demand” it to see what you missed?
Gary said thank you for the birthday wishes. Your cookies sound good too. Anything pumpkin right now smells so good Yum,yum.
It is chilly up here too. Perfect Fall weather, and we have not seen that in a long, long time.
Hope you have a nice day- we watched Jesse Stone last night…..LOL

      Hi Adele,
The cake looks really good. I like the picture of Gary he was really concentrating on fixing that headless horseman. The extra sprinkles on the cake looked like they were your idea. You always find a good cake to fix for everyone in your family for their birthdays and every holiday.
Meatloaf sandwiches are really good. We eat them also. That is always the best part of making a meat loaf the sandwiches the next day. We are all from the same generation and like similar things. I cannot remember if it was Barbara that likes the tomato sandwiches are who it was. They are really good also. I am really behind on all the posts it will take awhile to catch up on all of them.
So are you all ready for the fall weather. It is nice that the weather is cooler here now and have not gotten hot again. Hopefully they will stay that way. We have windows and doors open here in the evening and during the day. It is so nice to get the fresh air in the house.
When it gets a little cooler we will open the windows in the whole house and air the whole place out before it gets cold.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi DD,
I really love all the pictures that you posted. The house is so pretty they do not make houses like that anymore. It seems so odd that in days long ago everyone lived in a house. Now that is not so a lot of people live in apartments. Life has really changed. I am not sure that it is for the better.
That is good that it is getting cooler there now and the fire fighters are getting the fires under control. Hope that they get them completely out before long. That is such a mess.
We have so many disasters going on right now. Hurricanes and fires hope that this all ends soon. I cannot believe that we are getting all of these hurricanes so soon. The season has just started.
I feel like Miss gloom and doom tonight. I guess that I should get off of here before I depress everyone. Hope that you have a great night.

      Hi Everyone,
Colleen, it looks like we are getting the same weather as it has been cooler here. Although it warms up during the week but the night temps still cool down.
Barbara, are they still expecting storms to come your way? I hope not.
DD, I’ll bet Greg would like it if I added salsa to the meatloaf. He likes to add this salsa stuff to a lot of things.
Sue, good for Royal Caribbean. These stories are so nice to hear amidst all this destruction.
Did you miss the whole Penn State game or were you able to at least catch the end of it? How did they do? Darn cable company-they should never tamper with it when our teams are playing. Don’t they know better? lol
Adele, I wasn’t crazy about the roller skaters either-I don’t like the danger acts in general. I couldn’t imagine what kind of an act they could build off of what they do. I would get dizzy watching them going around and around for an hour.
I wonder who Esther Foskett was. Anyway, her cake looks delicious.
I see Gary is concentrating hard and is using some sort of adhesive.
Here’s what I want to know-is he gluing the headless horseman’s head back on? If so-now he is the horseman with a head. I told you guys my mind works in weird ways.
Count me in on the cold meatloaf sandwiches too.
Last time Greg saw on Facebook the water was getting close to our nephew’s door-and I haven’t read any more reports since then.
I wonder what things will be like when Jenny and family head out for Florida midweek-next week. We are not going on this trip so we will be dog sitting for Callie and Mimi.
We usually go to Jenny’s on Friday but we went on Saturday instead as they went to a birthday party Friday night. It was nice to go there when Adam was home for a change.
I guess during the week Jenny was asking Piper if she was a spoiled brat and she told her “I’m not a brat but I am spoiled.” I guess she knows what she’s talking about.
Then during dinner she was having chicken tenders and all of a sudden she held up a piece of her tender and she goes “Look it’s Mylie Cyrus swinging on a wrecking ball.” I almost choked from laughing so hard.
The we were done eating-and she looks at me me and says you’re done eating why are you still sitting at the table? I told her we were having conversation and somehow the Daylight comes and she wants to go home song came up and i said Do you know Harry Bellafonte and the De-O song and she said ” I don’t know him but i know the song.” It sounds so much cuter when you hear her say it in her little voice.
Then we were talking about the hurricane and Lachlan was asking what happens in a hurricane and were were explaining about winds and flooding and he asks-“well what happens to the fish when the ocean comes up on the shore?” I thought that was such a great question as no one ever talks about that. Now just this morning on the Today show I saw some film of people putting washed up dolphins back in the ocean. It takes a kid’s mind to give us a different perspective on things.
Greg has big rehearsals for the concerts in Oct. today and tomorrow. All four members are in town now so it will be the last rehearsals before the concerts.
Before I sign off I want to take a moment to remember all the people who lost their lives 16 years ago on 9/11 and to thank once again the brave first responders who answered the call on that day. Peace be with them all.

Gail I saw the end of the game. The cable came back near end of 3rd quarter. They won. They have an excellent running back. I think he is up for the Heisman trophy and they have a good quarterback. They did well last year & these are returning players.
I have heard most of the people I know in Florida are okay but no power. I know Pa sent trucks & crews to help restore power but they said some will need to be rebuilt & take weeks. I have not heard anything yet about Tim Bice or Tiago. I know a lot of people down there from the cruise and the destruction in the islands upset me as I visited those places and they were beautiful. If Jenny is going to Disney World she should be okay as David Fritz (travel agent for the cruise) evacuated to the hotel at Disney World and they came through okay. If she is going to the beach I don’t know but it probably won’t be in good shape.
This day always makes me sad for all the lives that were lost. That day changed everyone.

It is cool here today girls. I do imagine some is due to the rain we are expecting in this area later today and tonight and tomorrow. I watch some of the news about what the storms have caused but just cannot watch all that destruction for too long. I know those poor people must be reeling from where and how to start rebuilding. Thank God for all those who are helping them. I actually went on two weeks of time during my working days to work at one of the hospitals after a bad storm years ago. Everyone was so grateful for just anything we did. You can imagine how hard it was for people who didn’t have their medicines; or who just needed to be seen for some medical problem. We surely worked long long hours, but it felt good to do it.
This day of remembering always makes me sad. So much pain, so much loss of life. Words just cannot express how we all feel.
That was such a cute saying by Piper. She is so smart. I know you almost fell out with her observations of the chicken fingers. Was it Art Linkletter who did the show Kids say the Dardest things? Seems it was. I loved that show; and it is so true. I love their innocence; while at the same time being so above average intelligence with their down to earth, common sense statements.
I think Sue is right in saying that your daughter will be okay in Florida in Orlando where those other people are staying. I was really impressed at how many buildings there are hurricane five proof to protect everyone. How do you make your cookies using a cake mix? Do you use a spice cake mix?
I was in town a little earlier today, and I passed an older man sitting one the corner, with a dog and a sign that read “will smile for free”, and he was smiling at every car that passed. He stayed on my mind the whole time I was in the store; so before I left I picked up some cans of dog food, and premade sandwich and a small milk, and went back to where they were 15 minutes before, and they were gone. I spent quite a while looking for them; but to no avail. I cried all the way home. I see people with signs everywhere, but none that has ever said this; so I guess this is why it bothered me so much. But mabey I will see them again one day soon. Take care everyone. Colleen, hope you feel better. Hugs to all, Barbara

      Hi Ladies,
Gail, Piper is so cute. That is funny that she knows that she is spoiled but she is not a brat. She must have given that some thought. I hope that your nephew is ok still and the water does not get right up to the door. I do not know how long it will take for all that water to go down again. That is so sad that it is ruining so many peoples lives. I hope that Jenny and her family have a good time in Florida. It sounds like Irma is kind of winding down but there is another hurricane out there. I cannot remember the name they gave it. I am not sure if it will hit Florida or the east coast. There is so much destruction from these storms.
Lachlan is a smart boy. I wonder what made him think of the fish? It sounds like he was worried about them. I wonder if they will have something on the internet about the fish and what happens to them when there is a hurricane. That was really an interesting thing to bring up.
I had heard about the cruise ships that were bringing supplies to the different places and taking people off the islands that were affected by the storms. That just shows that people do care and will help if they can.
Barbara, My daughter and her family just got all moved to Tennessee. So far they really like it . The kids really like school there also. They went to a park for a picnic and they said that there was a waterfall there. Kaylee was really impressed by that. I am hoping that the storms will not be too bad there. This is such a sad time for everyone with all these storms and all the people losing their homes and businesses. We will just have to continue to pray for all of them.
Well I am going to be watching my granddaughter for a couple of days. Aliza is coming to stay with us. It will be interesting this will be her first time spending the night anywhere. I am trying to think of all kinds of things that we can do while she is here. We may make cookies and some muffins. This will be her first experience cooking. May let her scramble eggs for her breakfast also that will be something that her and grandpa can do together.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

Barbara I did not use a cake mix. Betty Crocker has a Pumpkin Spice cookie mix. It is in a pouch near the cake mixes. Just add butter, egg & water. Very easy and so good. I made some for the therapists and they wanted the recipe could not believe it was a mix. They only have them in the stores here in the fall.

      Sue,
Glad that you got to see at least part of the game. Are you a big fan because you always lived close to the school? We are not big college football watchers-probably our favorite if we had to pick would be U of Wisc. We kind of developed a fondness for them as we have taken two of our pups up to the vet school there. Our main team is “Da Bears.”
I heard this morning that we also have sent some electrical teams from the area to Florida. They are in Nashville right now waiting for the go ahead to get into Florida.
Jenny is not going to Disney this trip but they are staying in Kissimmee for a few days before the cruise. They are leaving from Port Orlando which I’m thinking must be by Cape Canaveral or whatever they call it now as Orlando is inland. I don’t know what they call the space station now as they keep changing the name-I know at one time it was Cape Canaveral-then it was the Kennedy Space Center and now it is something else. What’s up with that?

      Barbara,
Your story of the man and the dog touched my heart. I hope that you come across them again someday.
I do feel for the people who are begging on the street but you never know which of them are having legitimate hard times or which are just too lazy to try and do anything else. I have seen reports of people doing that and then going around the corner when they are done and getting into their Mercedes-so you just never know. And then I think of the Don’t Laugh at Me song that the Choirboys sing and there’s a whole different example of someone being down on their luck. Anyway, you are a wonderful tender hearted woman.
I’ll bet it felt good to go and help after that disaster when you were still working as a nurse. It’s tiring but fulfilling. Doing something for someone else just makes you feel so good-even if it’s as simple as helping someone carry their groceries or opening a door and smiling at someone. I just wish people would realize that it is just as easy to be kind to someone and do something nice as it is to be mean and do something hurtful-and doing something nice makes you feel good too.

      Hi Colleen,
It’s good to hear that Melissa and family are settling in well in Tennessee. Did you say that Stephen would be working as a recruiter now? Did they end up being able to find another gifted program for Ethan? I think most schools have some kind of gifted programs now.
I think the next hurricane is called Jose and after that I think it’s Katia. I hope they stay out at sea and fizzle out.
I must say Lachlan always comes up with the best questions-he is kind of the thinker who tries to figure everything out. Another thing I notice about him is when you are reading a book to him he is very sensitive to body language and will look at a picture and ask something like why does that girl have that look on her face? or something similar. I just love the way the minds of kids work.
I know when the river flooded here earlier in the summer many of the fish washed up on shore and were in yards when the river receded but we really didn’t want to tell him that some of the fish might die so we said we think they they might sense the storm ahead of time and that maybe the fish go down deeper in the water to avoid the storm.
I imagine you will be tired out if you are watching Aliza for a few days. I hope that you have lots of fun with her.

‘i am now really behind too. I was decorating, and the business kept me busy too. Plus, Gary was not feeling good- tested for a UTI- results will be in tomorrow. So it has been nuts here.

      Hey Gail!
OMG- the conversation at Jenny’s is priceless. I love it hear what they say, and it was very thoughtful to wonder about the poor fish. I saw that piece on the 2 dolphins too. the newsman was hoping they were a mother and baby dolphin set.
No, no…..Gary was fixing the headless horseman’s arm. When I got him out of his box, his arm cracked. Gary gets a funny face on, every time he fixes something. The headless horseman is my favorite Halloween story.
I love the talks with the little ones. they say the cutest things, and then you can hug the stuffing out of them too.
Sorry for the quick answers, but I am so behind in these……

      Hi Sue and Gail
I am also sad on 9/11. that day changed everything, forever. I knew one person on one of the panes that left from here- a very nice man who was on a committee I was on for the community of Gloucester- the inter-agency committee. I can’t remember his name- he and his wife were going on vacation.
It was a horrible time, and the first responders are still suffering from all they breathed in.

I hope AGT is good tonight, girls…we need some smiles. What happened in Florida and Texas is just awful. I made a donation through the Children’s Fund for the people affected by the hurricanes. they seem to do great work.
I am praying these hurricanes are done for the season- the bad ones, at least.

      OMG, Barbara!
that story broke my heart. I hope you will see that kind man again. that was such a nice gesture of yours to get them something to eat, while they made people smile.
I have a nice story of an old man that will bring a smile to your heart. For years, when I visited this foster home in Hamilton, I went by a simple cape styled home, where an elderly man sat out front, on one of those old fold up lawn chairs. He sat there in all kinds of weather, and smiled, and waved at everyone who drove by. He made my day. I would beep, and wave like crazy, no matter how stressful my day was. he sat there with his cane in his hand, and had the best smile you can imagine. He was the smile that warmed your heart. Unfortunately, one day, he was not there, but his chair was. So, i figured he was out some place. The next time I went by, no chair, no nice old man, and I got a pit in my belly. I asked my foster mother, and she said he died. I sat there and cried like I lost my best friend. From then on, every time I passed that house, I nodded my head, and got tears in my eyes. Just a simple thing like wave to a stranger, and smile, can have a huge impact on people’s lives. the random smiler’s are Angels in this world.
Ok, now I am crying again…..LOL

      Hi Adele,
I think some schools do use that song as an anti bullying song-of course not the Choirboys version but probably the version by the original artist who is somebody Wills-can’t remember his first name right now.
What a wonderful story about the man in the chair smiling and waving as people passed by. It only takes a small gesture to brighten someone’s day-and how much better is that than the people who are just nasty.
I hope the hurricanes are over for the season too. People have suffered more than enough.
I didn’t see all of AGT yet. It started an hour later and I found myself dozing off so I just let it record and will watch the rest of it tonight and then watch the results. I like the mentalist guy but his tricks are too long and involved-sometimes you get lost in the process. I think the ones that were on last year were much better.
You know I have kind of forgotten the story of the headless horseman I will have to revisit it. I can just remember watching Ichabod Crane on the Wonderful World of Disney when I was a kid, but I don’t remember the whole story. How I loved watching that show on Sunday evenings. And watching Mickey Mouse Club after school during the week. Those are good memories. Watching on the old black and white TV-our kids and grands don’t even realize what that was. lol
I hope Gary doesn’t have another UTI. He has been doing good lately. Fingers crossed and prayers sent.
Greg’s golfing buddies have been having lots of troubles lately. One had a kidney removed yesterday. Greg said he got an e-mail and he is doing well and then next week another golfing buddy is getting part of an intestine removed because of diverticulitis. I hope that they both have a speedy uneventful recovery.
I got that two tone shirt with the trick or treaters.

      Hey Gail
I hope Greg’s buddies have a good recovery, with no complications. What is with all the surgeries/illnesses lately?
Did I tell you my friend Maxine broke her pelvis? She was carrying a box down the stairs, and going backwards- with the box on the step above her, and missed the last 2 steps. She was in the hospital for 2 days, and now in a nursing home, as she has one bathroom, on the second floor, with her bedrooms. She is the one with the granddaughter with the blood clots in her lung. My prayer list has been getting huge. I hope it does not get any bigger.
Still no answer on Gary the doctor has to review all the tests before he is given the results. They did come in today, but no doctor there to review them.
I can still see that nice man’s face, and see him wave. I have no idea what his name was. He was a delight to the neighborhood, and someone told me there was an article about him after he died, in their local paper. i bet he was a great grandpa to someone.
I love the Mouseketeers. I had the hat, and Tillie said I wore it while I watched the show.
You should read the written story of the Headless Horseman- you will love it. i got it for JJ last year. It starts out as a bit of a romantic comedy….LOL
I hope the dog act does not win tonight, as there are so many talented people- I love the deaf girl, the Italian boy, and the girl who was burned!!
We will have to see what happens tonight…..

We have had a busy couple of days here. Jerry was in the mood for chili so I decided to give in and make enough for us and Joey and Lisa too. Got it all put together, and Joey calls to say that Lisa has had a flat tire on a busy road on her way home; so he and Jerry loaded up and went, put the donut tire on to get her home, and then they patched her tire in our garage, since it was raining and cold here. So by the time they were done; everyone was ready for a warm bowl of chili and sit for a while and visit. She is going to get a new tire this afternoon; she said; so it was a busy evening.
Didn’t mean to make you cry, Adele, with my story of the poor man and his puppy I saw. I shed some tears over your man who waved just to be nice and then his passing away after making so many people feel good by just seeing someone being kind and happy. I also had a sweet man who would wave on the corner of a busy street that I saw on my way to work every morning for several years; until one day he was not there either. I actually had to change my route after that; I missed him and his sweet smile and gesture so much. I have always been told I “wear my heart on my sleeve” which by now I guess that means I am soft hearted and sentimental; but I just love to spread as much kindness and love as I can; and as the sign said a smile is free. I know there are so many people who do count on us old soft hearted souls to give them something; even if they do not really need it. I actually saw some people who worked at a homeless donation center going through everything donated and picking out the “good” donations and loading it in their own personal vehicles. Made me so sick. But I know those who donated did it for the right reason.
Colleen, you are going to have so much fun with your grandaughter; but please take care of yourselves; and try to rest whenever you can. Little ones have lots of energy, and we need some down time even if they may not. LOL Did I tell you all that our little one if walking really good now? I miss them so much. I just want to reach out and hug him when they skype us. He say “uh oh” and “da da” and “bye” and waves to us. Lord, I miss him.
Sue, I will look for those cookies. They must really be deliscious. Thanks for where to find them.
I need something new from Quacker. I have had so much going on with Jerry being sick, and just this and that I haven’t had much time to look, but I am going to tonight. I know something surely has my name on it. Take care my friends. Hugs, Barbara

      Hi Ladies,
It sounds like all of our friends are falling apart and so are we.lol It seems like the older we get the more trouble we have. I guess it must be because we are getting older that is what the always say at the doctors offices. The sure sign that it is true is when you go in to see your doctor and you are older then they are. That is really sad.
Those two men that sat there smiling at all the people that passed by must have been angels. They sure did make everyone feel good. Barbara I hope that you see that man again so you can give him the sandwich and milk. He would probably really appreciate it. They are sad stories but then again they are happy stories. Look at how good they made both of you feel.
Barbara you are such a giving person. That must have been hard to go to the areas where there were hurricanes and volunteer you time to help out. I am sure that there were a lot of people that appreciated it.
My heavens Adele you prayer list does just keep growing and growing. i hope that Maxine has a quick recovery. Hope that she will be able to get up and down the stairs again. One good thing they have the stair lift things now and they could be a big help for her.
Gail I am sorry to hear about Gregs friends. Hope that they both have a quick recovery also. They will all be on my prayer list. That is rough for both of them.
Well it is rough watching a little one like this. I am hoping that Ron and I make it until Friday. Aliza is doing pretty good. She has not cried for her mom once. One good thing about her you know when she is ready to go to bed she gets really crabby. But when it is time we just take her to the bedroom and put her to bed and give her her binky and she goes right to sleep. She did that at nap time also.
Well that is about all from here. I have to get to bed and get some sleep. She will be up bright and early.
      Have agreat night
      Colleen
p.s Adele, i will be saying a prayer for Gary that his tests come back okay.

      Hi Ladies,
It’s been awhile since I was on here, but nothing to write about. I hope all you’re doing fine. I hope all your friends & family heal up nicely. I knew the lady with a broken pelvis would be laid up for awhile. I hope she recovers soon. she’ll probably have to have help when she goes home. Climbing stairs will be treacherous if she’s alone.
I’ve been watching the Cooking on Q all day. Well, it was on in the background, anyway. I was able to get a small set of baking dishes in temptations in the Harvest pattern. It’s a small loaf pan & 2 minis. With free s&h & easy pays I couldn’t resist!! so now I have a small set in both fall patterns.
I didn’t get to hear the boys choir sing, so what was it they sang?
I haven’t received my shirt & vest yet. Am anxious to get it.
Speaking of falling apart, I swear I am!! I went from pain from the bruising my right side, now it’s moved to the left side. I don’t know if I slept on my left side wrong or what, but it sure hurts just under my shoulder. I’ve been using a massager to see if it’ll relax the muscles. It’s most likely a pinched nerve or something. PT here I come, again. If it ain’t one thing it’s another!!
We have some good news. There’s some rain coming here starting Sunday & going thru next Wed.!!!!! That should put out the fires around here. the haze has left here, but it’s bad in the Eastern part of Oregon. The Eagle Creek fire has burned up over 36,000 acres & is only 13% contained. We’re having cooler temps this week. More normal for this time of yr. I hope the hottest temps are behind us now. I actually heard the “S” word in the latest forecast. Not for here, but up in the higher elevations. Don’t know yet how low it’ll be.
Well, that’s all from out here. Take care.

      Hi DD,
I hope your left side gets better without more PT. Unless you are eager to get back and see the cute PT guy. lol
I saw those loaf pans-they were pretty.
I saw this morning that there may be snow in some of the higher elevations it looked like maybe in Idaho or Montana.
That picture of the cat looks like my friend’s cat which is a breed called Birmin. Not sure if the spelling is right but i had never heard of that breed before i knew her.
I think the Choirboy’s song that you are asking about is on one of the CD’s that I sent you-it’s called Don’t Laugh at Me. That’s Greg singing the lead vocals on that one. He did a little different arrangement than the original singer who was I can’t remember his first name somebody Wills. It is a great anti-bullying song.

Thank you for the prayers for Greg’s golfing buddies. Notice how they scheduled their surgeries toward the end of golfing season. lol That’s some avid golfers for you.
I agree with you about the doctors looking younger than you. Greg always says when he visits our doctor he always wants to ask her-shouldn’t she be in school right now because she looks so young to him.
Have lots of fun with Aliza but don’t let her wear you out. You’ll be ready for a vacation with an umbrella drink when she goes home. They are so much fun but it’s always a relief to hand them back to Mom and Dad.

      Hi Barbara,
That chili sounds good-with some nice corn bread on the side. Good thing Joey and Jerry were around to help Lisa with the flat. To be honest I wouldn’t know what to do if I got a flat. I have never changed one myself. I think in our cars there are no spares. I think you have like fifty miles or something to get somewhere to fix it or get a new tire. It seems like that’s what they said-I may have tuned that part out. I will have to ask Greg.
Now Colin will be hard to keep up with when he is walking. Isn’t it amazing how they go from helpless newborn to walking in one years time. It truly is a miracle.
I’m sure you’ll be able to find something cute and new from Quacker. If you’re in the mood for nature may I recommend the new monarch butterfly shirt-it is gorgeous-I know I am a bit biased. lol It’s actually so hard to chose as they are all so pretty-the new fall ones come in lots of beautiful designs too.

      Adele,
I saw that cake plate. It is really pretty. Of course you have to bake cakes to put in it and I have not baked much for the last few years. We take advantage of the WalMart bakery-it’s not as good but it is less work. Plus those cake plates are big to store. You’ll have to find space for this now. I have one from Quacker factory from years ago where you can hang charms off the bottom for different seasons. I’ll bet it has been in a box in the closet for the last five years. It’s really cute but i just don’t use that stuff anymore. Maybe I’ll get it out and use it to put flameless candles on-or find some way to repurpose it.
I will say some prayers for Maxine. Missing a step can really cause some bad things to happen. I try to be careful on steps but sometimes we get distracted or are in a hurry and something happens.
I wish there was a picture somewhere of little Adele in her mouse ears watching Mickey Mouse Club-that would be so precious.
I was surprised last night that Angela(is that her name-the little girl) got through and not Celine-the other little girl. Well next week will be the final so we’ll see who will come out on top. Now I’m wondering-is next week the final? It seems like there are still twelve people in the running. Can they whittle them all down in one night?

      Hi Barbara
I cannot believe little Colin is already walking. Seems like yesterday when he was born. Time passes so quickly.
You know, after that nice man made everyone smile, I consciously decided to smile at everyone I encountered, and tried not to forget to do that, even on a stressed day. I wonder how many people took on the”smile” cause for both of those nice men. Spreading smiles, all across the land. A very nice thing to do, as you never knwo what kind of day someone is having. We all keep so much inside.
So, you made chili, and today I am making pizza. It is in the 70’s with very high humidity. But, i do not want the nice pepperoni Bobby got to go to waste. here is a funny for you about the pizza……I used to make pizza every Friday night for my kids, and every Saturday night, I made chocolate chip cookies. I stopped making pizza when the kids got to be adults, and were not home every weekend night. Plus, Gary would never eat it. I had a real hankering for pizza, and got the King Arthur pizza flour mix. So, I tell Chef Boy R Boo Boo (Bobby’s nick name), and he starts to instruct me on pizza making. So, i remind him that I was making pizza before it became a gourmet thing. Let’s see how many comments I will get tonight…..LOL
I used to do it with the frozen bread dough from the supermarket, then i added crushed/chopped tomatoes (I never used pizza sauce, as I like the taste of the actual tomato on pizza), some Italian/oregano, then the shredded mozzarella, pepperoni and mushrooms- then bake. i got no complaints when they were young, and their friends always came over for a piece before they went out for the night- always made 2 of them for the neighborhood kids too. But, that was before all the fancy shmancy pizzas of today.
I hope you are all feeling better, and that Lisa got her tire all repaired, or replaced. I hope I rememebr to take a pic of it to show you girls….LOL
Hope your weather is better than ours- getting rain later.

So glad you are having a good time with Aliza. that is fabulous that she goes to bed so easily. A lot of kids are a struggle to get to bed. I will bet after she is down, the two of you do not lat long in your chairs, watching TV.
Read my post to Barbara for the up-dated report on meals provided.
Did you catch AGT last night?
I heard Julianne Hough is stepping down from judging on DWTS.

That is a lot of news!
i am so glad you are getting some rain, and the fires are going out. that is fabulous news, for everyone.
Listen, i do not want to scare you , but, I have read a lot of articles that say a woman gets symptoms of a heart attack in ways much different than a man. One of them is shoulder area pain. Please have that checked out, as you just never know. I would hate for anything to happen to you. Plus, you live alone, so that scares me to. We all worry about each other, especially those of you who live alone.
I am glad you got that pretty baking set. Don’t you love the Harvest pastern? I think it is the prettiest one they ever made so far.
Our weather is gross again- overcast, high humidity, and rain on the way. Picture me making pizza tonight….LOL
I hope to hear that you are feeling better, and am adding a prayer for your pain to be nothing serious.

      hey Gail
With 12 in the running, I do not think so. Maybe they are going to have 2 eliminations next week. I was surprised to, at some of the choices.
That would be a great pic to find. I had a round face, like now, and lots of curly hair. I guess not much has changed.
I am thinking of putting the new cake plate in the office as a decoration. Gary is goign to LOVE that one….LOL I will tell him if he wants more cake, he will have to put up with it. ….film at 11:00, as they say.
Oh, he does not have a UTI. I am confused, as all his symptoms point in that direction. On the other hand, he feels better today.
Did you see Sean Spicer on Jimmy Kimmel last night? I find him very amusing.I love the SNL segments on him, with Melissa McCarthy. What will they do now?? Also heard he will be teaching at Harvard. Can you imagine??
Hope your day is good- read the post to Barbara,, for what is happening over here for food…..

So glad to see that Gary is doing better and no UTI this time. Those things are so painful and have so many ugly symptoms. Speaking of symptoms, I wanted to ask, DD, if you have your gall bladder or not? One of the symptoms of gall stones is pain at the bottom tip of the shoudler blade, and I remember I surely had that before I had my GB taken out. I was also having lots of feeling of pressure, like I had extra air inside my stomach. I know that sounds crazy, but just wanted to let you know about that just in case. So happy to hear that it is raining and helping with the fires in your area. It has been cooler here than usual, due to all the storms on both sides of us in Texas and Fla. and then as they come inland the rain and wind comes too. Our oldest son’s daughter lives in Destin Florida; so we worried, but thankfully she did good. She is 22 and lives with her other set of grandparents. She is such a sweet and talented young lady.
Yes, Gail, it is a miracle how quickly our baby’s grow and change. We can see in his little eyes how he watches us as we make absolute fools of ourselves when we are skypeing. He studies us so closely and then he tries to do exactly what we are showing him or asking him to do. And you can tell that he understands and wants to show you he does. Every few minutes (he is usually sitting in Neals’ lap) he looks straight at Neal as if to say “do you see this Daddy?” and back to us then. We ask him to show us his belly button, and he will pull up his little shirt and point to his belly button. Jerry just laughs and laughs. I heard Jerry saying to his brother (who has two grandsons about 12 and 14), of how he didn’t realize how much he is so in love with Colin. He said he knew he would love him with all his heart, but that he is the light of his life. I was so touched.
Colleen and Adele; I just told Jerry yesterday that my prayer list is so long that I feel like sometimes the good Lord is up there saying, “are you adding even more today?” I know he listens and understands and knows our needs before we do; but it does bring me comfort. I guess I am just a worrier and I think we could all use help from above.
That was a sweet idea for you to smile at everyone, Adele. I bet a lot of people smiled back. It just seems to me that being nice to people cause people to be nice right back. Your pizza sounds so good. I also used to have Friday night pizza night when our boys were younger, and made several pizza pies because so many of their friends always seemed to magically “show up” on Friday night. But like Jerry always said, we knew where they were and what they were up to when all the boys came over here. We did bon fires and they would do smores and sometimes would even do hot dogs after eating all that pizza. It seemed you just could not fill up all those boys.
I know you are really enjoying having Aliza over with you and Ron; but you all have got to be getting tired as well. You deserve a nice long nap with your feet up in the recliner. She is so sweet and smart. Enjoy your time, but take care of you and Ron too.
Sue, how are you feeling now? Is Cuddles still helping you on your road to recovery? She looked like such a sweet puppy dog. I love her name. Bet she is a good cuddler. Do you miss your job much? It was hard for me to adjust to not going to work. To be honest; I didn’t really know what to talk about. I felt like an outsider looking in. That probably makes no sense. LOL
Gail, I have the exact same Quacker cake plate with the little charms that hang down off the plate! Mine is also put up on a shelf, but now that you remembered yours; I want to get mine out. It was so cute.
Take care everyone. Will talk more later. Hugs to all, Barbara

      Hi Barbara,
I do love to see Greg with our grands too. There is such a special relationship there and it warms my heart to watch it.
Your stories reminded me of when our kids were in high school and used to have friends over here for bonfires on the weekends. Those were fun times.
I will have to get my Quacker cake plate out too and find a way to repurpose it.
      Have a great weekend.

      Hi Adele,
I didn’t see Sean Spicer on Kimmel. Melissa McCarthy did do a great job with him though. I thought I heard that even he admitted it was kind of funny. Do you ever get to see James Cordan or is he on too late? Sometimes I will catch him even though it is later. I love him with his musical theater background-he is like a little boy in his enthusiasm and who doesn’t like Carpool Karaoke? Plus I like when does the scenes from musicals right in the middle of the crosswalk in traffic. That cracks me up.
Your pizza sounds good. We haven’t made homemade pizza in eons. It’s funny that you call Bobby chef boy r boo boo. I call Brent Brenty Boo Boo and the kids call him Uncle Boo Boo. loI
I wouldn’t be at all sorry if Julianne Hough wasn’t a judge anymore on DWTS. Three judges is plenty.
When the cake plate arrives you will have to tell me how Gary is enjoying it in his office. I see it has a top so you could put pastries in it like they do in the stores or restaurants. He would probably like it in his office then. A little bribery never hurts.
The cast iron pumpkin is a cook’s essential’s item-I think it was on Carolyn’s show.
      Have a great weekend.

      Hey Gail
i am going to have to checkout the pot.
I am attaching pics of the pizza- some like mushrooms and some not, so that is why they are on some pieces. Aizen and Heather stopped by to get some too- she was babysitting for the school’s open house last night at JJ’s school. The section with nothing on it, was Gary’s. He said it was a little dry. Seriously? That is why people put toppings on pizza….LOL
I have not watched Corden. But, I love his carpool karaoke- they show it on other shows.
I feel the same way about DWTS- 3 is more than enough, and 4 creates a tie. Plus, I was not thrilled with her as a judge. I love the other judges.
OMG- that is funny that we have the same nick name for the boys.
I heard this am that Spicer was on one of the am shows- did not see it myself.
      Hope your weekend is good.

Adele, I am so sorry; prayers for you and Gary; his brother and family. So sorry you all are having such a hard day. God bless you all.

To everyone else, do hope this has been a good weekend. I used to stay signed in to this site all the time too; but kept getting kicked off that I stopped one day; and now I have to sign in each time. I thought it was just me and this goofy computer. It has warmed up here today. Jerry actually put the AC back on this afternoon; but I wish he hadn’t because I was okay. The puppy dogs are just loving this time of year. They just run and play like teenagers. I just love this time of year.
This is a lazy day for us. We have found some great FROZEN black angus steakburgers at our local market. They are sold in a box of 8; so we just take out a couple at a time and you start them on low until they thaw and then increase the temp to med. until they are cooked to your taste. I could not believe when Jerry first brought them home that they would be so good; but they are really good. So that is our dinner for tonight. I haven’t tried the ones that the Q carries; but I have been tempted. I was telling Jerry about them and that gave him the idea when he saw these. I have been so tempted to try the croissants with the apples but have yet to dive in. Do you all order any food products that have turned out well; or for that matter; not so well?
Better go for now. Have Adele on my mind. Take care all. Barbara

      Hi Ladies,
Adele, I’m sending prayers & lots of hugs during this very hard time for you & your family. Bless you.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend. We’re not having a good one at all. The smoke has returned with a vengeance. It’s so bad I can smell it & I don’t have any windows open or anything. IT’s caused when the wind shifts from west to east winds. But sometime overnight the wind is supposed to change back, & will bring in the rain sometime Sunday afternoon, & that should clear it out, plus help with the fires. It’s consumed over 45,000 acres!! It’s a real disaster. The rain’s supposed to last thru the middle of the week. I hope!! It’s really gonna be a disaster when the winter rains come in, those hills are going to collapse without all those trees to hold the ground.

As for staying signed in, I too have that happen. Don’t know why either. sometimes if I don’t get on here it’ll take me down. I have noticed that when I get your emails on my phone & I scroll down to reply it says I have to sign in again. So who knows what the deal is.
Barbara, I do get food items from the Q & sometimes it’s great & there are times when what I get isn’t so great. Kansas City steak burgers aren’t that good. I’ve bought each flavor at one time or other & wasn’t pleased. I got Rastelli’s most recent burgers & they are good. they didn’t shrink like KC’s did.
I’ve preordered some of the Christmas dinner items. I hope they’re good.
Oh I did get the mini croissants plain & with chocolate & am glad I got em on auto-delivery.
Oh, Thurs was an early Christmas for me. I got the QF shirt & vest, Denim & co corduroy pants, & the Pumpkin Patch small bakers arrived. I’m putting the dishes out in my fall décor. My mini bakers in Harvest are on the way so I’ll have them for décor too. The shirt & vest are prettier in person!!
Oh did any of you get notices that their summer stuff is on sale? Half price some of em. I don’t know if they’re still on sale or not. Check out their site cuz they’re going to be on this week. Fall O’Ween is going to be on. Angel & Antonella but not sure of the time. I just checked my email & it’s on Thurs. afternoon ET 2-4 pm ET. There are shows on Monday, morning Q, 7-9 am ET. Wed. Chicks Night In. (I always forget it!).

A friend of mine, & her family went down to Disneyland & they brought me back a tee shirt that says, Genius by birth, Grumpy by choice, with a pic of Grumpy. That’s me all over!!! lol
Well, I better end this novel before I bore all of you.
      take care.

      Hi Ladies,
DD, I am so sorry that the smoke is so bad where you are. I hope that the wind changes and blows all that smoke the other direction. That is so sad that so much of the land is burning. It will take such a long time to replace all of the trees. It is hard when you have fires like that. That is so nice that you got your clothes from qvc. It is fun to open all of the packages when they arrive. I have stopped ordering for awhile have to get all my easy pays paid off. I may try the Rastelli burgers since you liked them. I had the same trouble with the Kansas City steaks hamburgers. They really do shrink of and do not taste all that good. I buy a lot of food from qvc most of it good but not a lot of bad things. The one thing that I was really disappointed in was Cheryls cookies. Some of them were moldy when I got them. They were the sugar free ones so am not sure if that was the reason. I may try again and see if they just sent me a bad box and if the others are good. They did refund my money though which was really good. I like the fact that you do not have to send the food back it is not easy to pack stuff like that back up to mail. The pictures of the shelves that were decorated was that at your apartment? I loved all the pretty fall pictures that you sent.
Barbara, We did have a good time with Aliza. It was time for her to go home on Friday we were both so tired. When we put her in the car with her mom I told her that I loved her and she just smiled so big and I asked her if she would come back and stay with us and she said yes and just gave me the prettiest smile. I cannot believe that Colin is walking already. It is amazing all the things that learn from birth to 5 yrs old. I am so glad that you have skype and can see all of these developments. I am praying that something will happen and Neal will get a transfer to come back home so you can spend more time with Colin.
Gail, No golfer would schedule their surgery at any other time. They can be sick but they cannot quit playing golf. Men are funny about things like that. I agree with you and Barbara and our husbands with the grands. They really love them and do a lot of things with them. I had to laugh at Ron. He went to the store and bought Aliza some powered sugar donuts and some pop tarts for her to eat for breakfast. He is so funny. We still have some of the donuts left I do not know how many he thought she would eat. I cannot believe that Julia Huff is leaving dwts. I thought she would stay with it for a lot longer. I wonder if she will follow in her brothers foot steps and start acting and doing other things. Have you seen all the new hosts that they have on qvc? I like all of them that I have seen. They get younger and younger also. I watched that 30th anniversary for Pat Demntry ( spelt her name wrong I am sure) That was really nice and they all had such nice things to say about her. IT was nice that her daughter showed up to be with her mom. Pat acted really surprised to see her. It sure does not seem like she has been on there for that long.
Well that is about all from here. I am finally getting rested up from having Aliza here. She was a handful but so cute. It is well worth being so tired would do it all again.

      Hey Barbara
Well, thank you all for the kind wishes on Gary’s brother. this is a terrible disease, and I have to say, it was way worst than any of my relatives who died from cancer. I pray there is a cure, before anyone else gets a diagnosis.
Well, I have to say if we lived in the same neighborhood, the local boys would have all been quite large, between going to my house and yours….LOL We had the same theory- if they were here, we knew what they were doing.
I am trying to read the posts I missed,a s we are here today- friends coming over in a couple of hours.

      Hi Sue, and everyone.
he passed away a little after midnight on Friday/Saturday am. We were there until about 6, and then took Susan out for something to eat, before heading home.
It was awful to watch, as he just did not deserve to die like that. Nobody does. A very cruel disease. But, now, he is at peace and can be free of the prison Alzheimer’s creates. i am praying for a cure.
he will be buried tomorrow, and then we sit Shiver (I am sure I am not spelling this right) until Wednesday. Wednesday is a Jewish holiday, and I do not think my SIL will be doing her usual dinner. I hope not, as she has done enough, and needs a break. We were goign to her place for the holiday, until all this happened. She has been with Don every day, since he went into a nursing home. She is a Saint, and has lost a lot of weight too, and she is a tiny person to begin with. Susan is really a lovely woman, and I am honored to be her SIL.
      hope you are ok!

      Hi Everyone,
Adele, once again, my thoughts and prayers are with your family. Susan sounds like a wonderful SIL. I hope she gets an opportunity to get some rest. I know it’s hard under the circumstances but it is something she will need for the funeral service and while sitting Shiva. I hope she doesn’t plan on having the holiday after everything else she has been through. Poor Gary-I hope that he can rest too as there will be some challenging days ahead.
DD, how awful that you can still smell the smoke inside. I hope the winds change and blow it away and that you get some rain too. We need rain here. It has been awfully dry after the really wet early summer. I agree with you-I think most of the Quacker stuff looks prettier in person.
Barbara, I think many of us have tried the Saint Clair side dishes and we agree that they are all good.
Colleen, I have tried the Cheryl’s cookies and I think they are way too sweet-and I have a sweet tooth so that’s saying a lot. I have given them as gifts as they often come in cute gift sized containers and the grands do like them so I have given some to them too.
I’m glad to hear that you had so much fun with sweet Aliza. It’s all worth being a little tired-isn’t it?
I think Julieanne Hough has already been pursuing other things as I think she has been in a couple of musicals and has put out an album so she probably no longer has the time for DWTS-I’m just as happy as I like the three judge panel the best-and as far as I am concerned they can skip the guest judges too-unless it’s someone who actually knows something about dance.
I missed Pat Dementri’s 30th anniversary-I would have liked to have seen her daughter in person as I think I have only seen pictures of her. I would imagine that she is really pretty. I wonder if she still does ballet as I know she did that for a long time.

      Hi Ladies,
Adele, I’m sorry for your loss of your BIL. How is Gary holding up? Take solace in the knowledge he’s in a much better place now. I’m sending prayers, & lots of hugs to both of you. Don’t worry about not reading my posts. You have much more important things to worry about now. HUGS***

Well, the rain has ARRIVED at looooong last!!! It cleared out the smoke completely, & is helping the firefighters. I’m hoping it’ll knock out the fire. It’s consumed almost 50,000 acres now!! Now with the rain, they have to worry about landslides, & flash floods. I knew that was coming. With all the vegetation gone now there’s nothing to hold the ground from sliding. Terrible!! The rain is supposed to last thru Thurs. then it clears out & we get back to normal temps. Right now we’re in the 60s during the day. It’s refreshing after all the heat!! Oh yeah they had snow on the mt at the ski resorts today.

I have DWTS on right now. I know only a handful of the contestants. I’ll watch for a few weeks, then I get bored.
I’m decorating my apt for fall right now. With a smattering of Halloween mixed in. Its getting harder for me to do it like I used to. I’m still having issues with my shoulders & sciatica. I think the fall I had last month & the whole bug thing took my enthusiasium for anything.
      Well, that’s all for now.

      Hi Gail,
It is worth every minute to be with Aliza. We miss her now that she is gone. Maybe she will come and stay with us again soon. They have a day when they have chicken and dumplings at one of the churches down here and Owen love them and I think that Aliza will also. We will have to have him come also. They would really enjoy the meal and getting to go out with us. At least I hope that is some of the attraction of going out to eat.
I have not watches dwts yet. I will watch right after I get off of here. I hope that the show is really good tonight. It will be interesting to see if they just have three judges or if they add another one. I think that you are right 4 judges are too many. It takes too long and they all say about the same thing. Some of the judges they have had in the past as guests did not make any sense to me. Like the ones that come on that were contestants before. They do not know anything about dancing. Wish that I knew more then what I do.
Pat’s daughter is really pretty. She did not say if she is continuing to do ballet or not. You could tell that her and Pat are really close. She stayed during the whole show and sat with the models. It was a good show it is a shame that they will not show it one more time. Her and Jane are really close that was interesting to find out that Jane Brown has only been at qvc for 20 years. I thought that her and Pat had been there for the same amount of time.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi DD,
I am glad that the rain is there at last. You really needed it. That will be a mess if the you start to have mud slides though. That will be a mess also. I hope that they will plant more trees to take the place of the ones that have burned. It will be awhile before they can but it needs to be done as soon as possible.
Hope that you start to feel better soon. It is hard when you are sore from the fall and your sciatica just take care of yourself. Maybe you will feel like doing more later on. You have really gone thru a lot especially with the bug thing. That woman should be ashamed of herself for putting you thru all of that. It was not necessary. Well at least it is over for now and you should not have to go thru that again for awhile.
It is hot here again. It has been in the 90’s and really humid. It will be nice when the weather gets back to where it should be. Glad that you are in the 60’s that sounds really nice.
I like all of the pictures that you posted. They are so cheerful Especially the one with the scare crow. They always make them with such cute faces.
Well that is all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi DD,
I’m glad the rains have come to clear the air and put out the fires. I hope the mud slides will not be too bad and vegetation will start growing again soon. 50,000 acres is a lot of land to burn. Did many people lose their homes or was this in uninhabited sections of the state? With that much forest I’m surprised the logging industry isn’t still thriving in Oregon. I wonder where we get most of lumber from now?
Don’t feel bad-I think we have all cut back on our decorating over the last few years. I think we no longer have the strength or the stamina. But I’m sure our homes all still look warm and welcoming for each season.

      Hi Colleen,
That chicken and dumpling dinner sounds good to me. Maybe I’ll come for it. lol
I hope that you enjoyed DWTS-I thought it was good and nice to see Mark back-I always enjoy his creativity.
I would imagine that Pat and her daughter Nikki would be close as I think it’s just been the two of them for quite awhile after Pat’s divorce. I can actually remember when Jayne Brown was new so I knew she had not been there nearly as long as Pat. That just shows how long I have been watching QVC.
I always wonder what happened to Leah William’s marriage-it seems like she was married for several years and then all of a sudden she wasn’t.
You are right-this new crop of hosts look to be very very young. They probably are. I’m glad that they still have some older women who are hosts as sometimes I can’t really relate to the ones who are very young.
Did you enter the drawing for the witches hat this year? It would be so nice if someone we knew won it. I think the Falloween show will be with Antonella-I like her-she’s fun.

      Hi Gail,
You are welcome to come along for the chicken and dumplings. They are at a church so they are always really good. It seems like those church ladies that do the cooking are always good cooks.
It was a good show last night. I enjoyed seeing Mark back and Peta also. Who else was it Cheryl Burke was back also. They have some good dancers again this time. There are a couple of them that it will be easy to vote off but will have to wait and see that was the first night. They are having a show Monday and Tuesday next week. That will get boring if they keep doing that. They are going to vote someone off on both nights. Do you have a favorite yet? I have not decided who I liked the best. It will take a couple of shows to decide.
Do not know that much about Leah Williams. She is always so bubbly and happy when you see her on the air. Does she have any kids? You never hear her talk about that either. The other hosts will mention that they have kids they may not talk about them all the time but they do mention them. Jayne Brown has two girls doesn’t she? I do not know why I always thought that Pat had more then one child. That is a shame that she is divorced she seems like such a sweet person. I think that I heard that he was not faithful to her. She did not deserve that at all.
I did enter for the hat. I will not win but hope that you girls do. I keep getting letters from Tim Bice welcoming to the Quacker family. I do not know what I am doing wrong that this keeps happening. It happened again when I signed up to win the witches hat. So hope that I entered the contest and did not just register to get the emails and things again.
How are your eyes now? Have you had anymore problems? I really hope not. You enjoy reading so much.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi Colleen,
Well I e-mailed James about no longer being able to stay signed in and he said that they have done nothing on the site so it must be me but I have no idea what could have happened on my end-so now I have to sign in every time I want to write something and also I don’t get the e-mails in my yahoo mail when someone posts ( that has been like that for me for a long time and we were never able to fix it). Who knows what will happen next-but it’s really kind of a pain-minor-but still annoying.
I got the same welcome from Tim Bice when I entered the hat contest so I guess maybe everyone got it whether they were a member here or not. Maybe it’s some sort of automatic response.
I don’t think Leah had any kids. I don’t remember her ever being pregnant and I think she was married after she was on QVC. I think I had read somewhere too that Pat’s husband had an affair and if I remember he was sort of a public figure in the area-maybe a newscaster or something.
My eye has been good. Knock on wood!
So far I don’t have any big favorites although I like Mark’s partner and I like the young man who was in Hamilton who is Lindsey’s partner. Wasn’t Barbara Corcoran acting goofy the other night. That was so different from how she is on Shark Tank. I was embarrassed for her. I’ll bet she is one of the first to go. I feel sorry for Keo as they always put him with someone who gets kicked off quickly. I’d like to see him get a good partner sometime. I’ll get some scoop when I visit my sister in a couple weeks since she’s been doing ballroom dancing for close to 30 years she knows more of the technical stuff than I do.
Right now we’re babysitting our grand dogs since Jenny and family are on vacation. They’re older probably 9 or 10 so they are not much problem and they are small-a Westie and a French Bulldog. My SIL e-mailed me Monday saying that she had to put her little Yorkie to sleep that morning. I feel so bad for her as that dog was like her child as she never had children and it helped her get through losing her husband when he passed away. I know we get over these things but they still hurt so bad. She does have her marriage to look forward to in November and I know she will always remember and never stop missing her little doggie too.

Hi Colleen, DD, Gail, Barbara, Sue and everyone
Thank you for the prayers and kind words.
he is in a better place. Watching him suffer was awful. I have to say, from all my relatives who died from cancer, this was a lot worst. I never thought I would ever say that, but, it is true.
The funeral was a wonderful tribute to my BIL. His daughters, and granddaughters did eulogies, and they were phenomenal.
One of my SIL’s friends asked Gary how he was doing, as her hubby died 2 years ago form complications with diabetes. She recognized he was not doing good, and it ended up being an intervention. She made him get his phone, and call his doctor- she was horrified at the lok of his legs form the swelling, and skin break down. He hid that the skin was breaking down again from me, and I did not see it until Friday 0 the night my BIL died. My SIL and her friend did not want him to come down again yesterday, but to handle his needs instead. he saw his doctor, and today he is at an echo cardiogram, and more blood work. he has to take the fluid pill he has not been taking, every day, no matter what. He has to weigh himself every day, and keep a record of the wights. then, he goes back to see his doctor next week to review everything.
I told Gary his brother made that happen, and he needs to listen to him.
Other than that, all is ok here. I guess that is enough for one week- loss and health issues. I am exhausted, but doing better today. GAry has a sadness about him, whihc is expected. I have not watched all of DWTS yet- hope to finish it today. Who does everyone think will win tonight on AGT???
I think the little ventriloquist, the girl who was burned, and that crazy dance troupe have the best chance. We will see.

      Hi Adele,
It was good that your sil’s friend noticed that Gary’s legs were breaking down. That was good that she got him to call his doctor right away. Sometimes men will listen to someone else when they will not listen to their wives. That is a shame though. He should have let you know. I am glad that he got into see his doctor right away. I hope that he does what the doctor tells him to do this time around. He needs to get things under control again. We will be praying for him. Let us know what the test show. Is he still drinking water like he was? Sorry I sound like an old busy body.
Poor Gary to be going thru all of this and you too. It is just as hard on you. You need to take it easy and rest also. Do not let this get you down. Take care of yourself.
DWTS is pretty good this time. It has been the last few times that it has been on. They have really picked some good dancers to come on there. I cannot believe that they are going to have two eliminations next week. They are not giving the stars time to learn any of the dances. I hope that they do not do two nights in a row like they did last year. That gets boring after awhile.
Well that is about all from here. Please take care of yourself.

      Hi Gail,
That is funny that they send those out to everyone that enters the contest. We are all new to the Quacker family again. Did you watch Chics night in tonight? I watched part of it but will watch the rest later. I recorded it so I could watch it later. I always sign in and out every time that I get on here. It does not seem to be like it was on the old site. It was a lot more convenient not to have to sign in and out every time. I have them remember me so that way I do not have to type all of that in again. I am getting lazy and I would forget the password anyway so it is better that they remember it. lol
That is a shame that Leah did not have any kids. I think that it makes you very lonely when you get older and you do not have any. She does mention nieces and nephews doesn’t she? I may have her confused with Jayne Brown. That is just my opinion about the kids there are a lot of people that do not have any.
That Barbara Corcoran was a little weird Monday night. She may be one of the first to go. I agree with you they never give Keo a good partner. Maybe because he is one of the newest dancers on the floor. I hope if she sees the tape of how she acted she will change. I did like Marks partner and the guy from Hamilton. They were both really good. Didn’t they both tie for first place Monday Night? I am not sure about Drew. He did try but did not do as good as I thought he would. I wonder if his brother dances. It will be interesting to see who does really good at the end of the show. They usually have some real surprises.
That is really good that your eye is still doing well. Will keep praying that it keeps dong well and you do not have that problem again.
It is nice to baby sit older dogs. They do not get into as much stuff as young dogs do. How long will you have them? I am sorry to hear about your sil’s dog. It is hard to get over the loss of a dog or a cat. I still miss my dogs that we have lost. Especially Lucky and Biskit. We also had a dog named Toby and he was such a good dog. It still brings a tear to my eyes.
Hope that you have a good visit with your sister. Maybe you will get to do a lot of exciting things. Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Did Hi Ladies,
the rain sure feels good, & smells good as well. The smoke is completely gone now, but the fires are still going, just not as bad. The cooler temps & rain have helped & some of the 1,000 firefighters are heading home. But with the rain comes more problems. I mentioned this before, landslides, & flash flooding. we had some pretty heavy downpours today. Lightning, thunder & hail, & heavy rains. And there’s about a foot of SNOW at some of the ski resorts. Yes, snow in Sept. the ski buffs are thrilled, but warmer temps are on the way so it won’t last long. No it’s not down here. Just above 4500′ in the mts. Mt Hood.
Gail, Oregon’s biggest industry was timber/lumber, for decades, until the environmentalists came in & shut it down!!! I grew up in a mill town. Now they’re all gone. It’s a shame, too. At one time there was a big fiasco about the spotted owl. Logging was shut down because of it. If they were allowed to log the Gorge & thin out some of the trees this fire would’ve been out sooner, but what do I know??! So now we have almost 50,000 acres of burned out trees, etc. I’m not real sure how many homes were lost. I know one for sure. Some out buildings were destroyed. The firefighters were able to save several homes & the historical Multnomah Falls Lodge.
Adele, I hope Gary keeps up with the Dr’s orders. Good thing that lady saw what was happening & got him to call the Dr. I’ll be praying for the both of you. You take care of yourself as well.
I think DWTS will be a fun season this time around. Drew from the Scott brothers is on there. there seems to be a lot of good dancers this time around.
Did you see the clip where Barbara C. was hitting on her partner? I’m sure she was joking around, but it seemed inappropriate.
Well, I guess that’s all for now.
I am taking my time decorating. I’ll take pics of it when I get it finished.
take care all, & don’t forget QF Thurs. afternoon.

      Hi Colleen
I was surprised by who won last night. She is good, but I think it odd they keep choosing kids. The other little girl who sang was very good too. i was still sad they voted the Choir off, and the man who sang in the train stations, and the one who was Italian looking. I really thought Diavolo was goign to win last night.
Gary has begin to drink the water again- he was slacking off for a while. he has been taking the fluid pill every morning too, which is a huge accomplishment. You are not a busy body!! you care, and we all know that.
I am looking forward to the Falloween show today. i hope one of us wins the hat.
How have you and Ron been feeling?? Has potato soup been on the menu lately?

      Hi DD
Gary is behaving- read my post to Colleen for the info. His appointment is Wednesday, and he will get all the results then. When he had the echo cardiogram, they did not call the doctor in to look at anything, so I thought that was good.
I did see Barbara Corcoran, and she was acting like a Cougar….LOL What was up with that? The judges almost fell off their chairs in hysterics.
I got the cake saver yesterday. It came with 2 pretty serving pieces too. I love it. I think I will keep it on top of the fridge for now. It makes me want to make a cake tomorrow….LOL
I am so happy the fires have all bit stopped, and hope they stay that way. that is just awful.
I hope you watch the Falloween show today, and that one of us gets the hat!!

      Hi DD,
It’s too bad there wasn’t some way to protect the spotted owl and still allow logging. I’m sure that whole change was hard on the economy of the state. So now if our wood comes from out of country there is probably something else being decimated in other parts of the world. I don’t know how we fill the needs of the billions of people on earth but still keep the environment safe. it’s a tricky question that our grandchildren and great grandchildren will be facing. I hope we are nurturing some geniuses who can come up with some answers.
I’m glad your rains have cleared the air. We are having close to record temps in the low 90’s.
Looking forward to seeing your decorating pictures.

      Hi Colleen,
I did watch Chicks Night In. It’s always good to see Patrick. I suppose with the second hat that they are giving away today you will have to be in the audience-or on Facebook. I always liked when they chatted on the QVC site then I could join in. Now everything is gone over to Facebook.
We were watching the results of AGT last night. We watched half of Master Chef and it was also the finale of that and then we switched over to AGT to watch that finale so we will have to go back and watch the rest of Master Chef tonight to see who won that.
I think Leah does have nieces and nephews. I know for my SIL who had no children her nieces and nephews were kind of like substitute kids and now her fiancée has grands so she is really close to them.
Yes I do think Drew looked a bit awkward when he was dancing-he is pretty tall and sometimes that is not an asset in those dances. However, I bet his fans will keep him on for awhile. I give anyone that goes on a lot of credit for doing that and stepping out of their comfort zone and opening up themselves to sometimes tough criticism.
We will be dog sitting for about a week and a half. They are pretty easy as they are older so they sleep a lot and just kind of hang out. I miss our dogs too and still cry sometimes-I especially miss these last three as they were such a good group-I never had to worry about them and they got along with all people, even little ones, other dogs, cats and were just a generally good natured bunch but it also took some work to get them to be like that.
Well I guess it’s time to watch General Hospital and Quacker.

      Hi Adele,
We missed you. I’m so glad that your SIL’s friend intervened with Gary. Somehow someone needs to convince him that he needs to get serious about taking care of himself. Ignoring that kind of stuff will not make it go away-it just makes it get worse.
I was not surprised that the young ventriloquist won-she was really quite good. It does seem funny that the last two years have been such young people though. But who knows-next year it could be an 80 year old. Or maybe we could all form a group of the Quackettes and win. lol
I didn’t really think the comedian was that funny-although he seemed like a nice guy and maybe would be better suited to something like a sitcom.
Barbara Corcoran was rather embarrassing on DWTS. I think that won’t bode well for her. Imagine if an older man had acted that way with one of the young female dancers?! I mean I can appreciate a handsome young man too but I don’t need a napkin to wipe the drool off my chin. There’s something to be said for being classy and discreet. lol
Aha-so now Gary isn’t going to get the cake plate in his office. What kind of serving pieces came with it?
Time to watch GH and Quacker.

      Hey Gail
      I missed you guys too.
Tillie and I watched the Falloween show. I did not hear who won the hat. Maybe they did not do it yet.
The one who won is very good. I am just surprised a small child has won 2 years in a row. It is just weird. plus, you wonder about the affect on her childhood. I hope she stays as sweet as she is, and continues to go to her school. The other girl who came in second, looked devastated.
I hope Gary continues doing the right thing to. If he does not shape up, and realize he HAS to do certain things, he is definitely headed to dialysis, or worst. It seems diabetic men all have that ” denial” personality. I call it the diabetic personality. Every time when I think he gets scared enough to do what he needs to do, he doe sit for a while, and then stops. He says he is tired of all the doctor appointments, and testing. I get that. But, how would 6 hours, 3 times a week feel? I pray every night that he listens.
I was very surprised by her remark, and re-would the episode to hear it again, as I was not sure what I heard….LOL It is very true. Were that a man, he .would have been booted off the show. It is so strange to see the double standard continue in 2017.
The serving pice came with a very pretty serving spoon, and pie/cake server. Also can be used either side- for a chip and dip, or cake. I really do love that new Harvest pattern. So pretty. I want to see it, instead of it being in the office. I realized the top of the fridge has nothing, so that may work….LOL
I saw you said your eye is doing well. Very happy about that. How is the hair coming along??
Did I tell you girls my friend Marine broke her pelvis? Just awful- she is in a lot of pain. She got home from the nursing home on Sunday or Monday. We all need to be very careful.
Hope your day is going well.

To my dear friends in Quacker land, hope all is well. So glad that you and Gary are doing as well as one could expect following these last few days, Adele. How good that someone was able to get Gary’s attention and make him go see about his legs and his blood work. You know, when you are having a lot of stress in your life your immune system just seems to weaken, and if you have a pre-existing health problem, it makes it worse. And as we all know men do tend to hide things from us; and someone else can motivate them into seeing about their health even if we have been preaching the exact same thing for months. I too hope he stays on what the doctors tell him he has to do; since I have seen so much of the effects of diabetes on patients that I took care of. To have to go several times a week and have dialysis is not something he would want to be required to do if his blood sugar under control. I know it is so hard, but it is even harder; per my patients, to have to have a shunt placed in your vein, and sit while be dialyzed. Right now; he has a choice of how he spends his day; but if it comes to the other; he won’t. That might make him really think. But, I will pray for you all; and hope all will be okay. Colleen, I admire you for working so hard to keep your sugar under control. I can only imagine how hard it is to be so dedicated.
Neal just skyped us so Jerry could talk to him as he was making grilled pork. He is off on Weds. and Thurs. and he was grilling. I thought it was so sweet and made Jerry feel so good that Neal wanted him to help him. We are so lucky to have this ability to be “with them” even though we are so far away. Little Colin got his first hair cut today. He was an angel; just sitting up like a big boy in Neals lap at the barber shop while they cut his hair. The barber even commented on how well behaved itty bitty was. Is my “bragging” at all noticeable? LOL Lord only knows how much I miss them.
We are having one of those roasted chickens that we picked up at the deli this afternoon for our dinner. I think I am just going to slice some off and make me a sandwich. We are having our friends from right down the street over for a casual supper tomorrow. She called the other day to see if we wanted to go into town with them for dinner; but I was just “pooped” from no sleep the night before; and knew I would not be much fun. I think we are doing a pot of stew and cornbread; and if there is leftovers; we will save some for Joey for the next morning when he gets off. I am looking forward to our visit. THeir children are grown and married too; and were close to ours all the years of growing up. He is the man who has had two strokes; but you can barely tell. He tires very easily; kind of like me. But she is bringing a dessert; and we just spend time in our comfy clothes; Quacker for me: and sit around visiting and reliving the “old days”. I am looking forward to it.
Loved the Quacker shows. I keep hoping too that one of us will win something on there one day. Sue; you have to put a good word in for us LOL How is your knee doing by the way? Good I hope.
Gail; I remember when Dan Hughs used to be on with Pat D. and they had the golden reteiver doggie; Murphy I think his name was: on the morning shows with them, and Murphy would just wonder around whenever he wanted to and they would be trying to sell something. ha ha That was a long time ago; do you remember that? I missed the puppy when he went to live on Dan’s farm. The Q has really changed; or I have really changed over the years. I do remember that Jane always used to talk to the used to be Liz Clairborne lady, Linda, about how they played tennis together all the time. It seems I also remember that Leah was married for quite a while; and then not. I have always liked her; she has such a pleasant attitude; and so does Antonella. I relate to her so much; because she really seems family oriented and loves to cook; and is closer to my size and I watch her as much as I can when she does clothing shows; to see how the clothes look on her so I will have a real idea of how it will look on me. I have tried before to buy things that are just beautiful on the slim models (and I love the models) but unfortunately it looks awful on me when I get it in the mail; and then back it has to go. I just don’t think everything looks good on everybody type; like some people say it does.
Better go for now; Jerry is rustling around in the kitchen; so he must be getting hungry. Take care everyone. Talk soon. Barbara

      Hi Ladies,
Well, did you all buy out QF today? I ordered a pair of Dream Jeannes in pale pink since they were on easy pay. All the colors I wanted were either sold out completely or in my size. Oh well. I loved so many of the tops I’d have to win the lottery. I did go to the FB page & said I was in Portland, Or., & when Angel said she’d heard snow had fallen, she thought it was here. So I commented back that it was Oregon that got snow this week, but was in the mts, & the ski resorts. She was talking about a fleece jacket & believe me you’d need one today/tonight. I’ve already had the heat on.
anyway, I thought Antonella was a hoot today. I noticed they did the show outdoors. I don’t recall ever seeing a fashion show done outside. Garden shows, & the like, but not a fashion show. Maybe I just missed em.
My bakeware set from Temptations came today. The Harvest set of a loaf pan & 2 minis. Gorgeous!! I have the Pumpkin Patch set out & will do the same with these, incorporating them in my décor.
Oh my gosh, I forgot to tell you guys, we’ve had some wild weather here this week. Not only snow in the mts, but an EF-0 tornado touched down outside the small town I grew up in. It destroyed two barns, & damaged 3 others. It touched down in a rural area, so that was all that was damaged. No injuries to people or animals, except a cow ended up quite a ways away from where she was supposed to be. the farmer told the reporter they named her Dorothy, & laughed. It’s been a wild ride out here, but NOTHING compared to Texas, Fl., & Mexico City, & the Caribbean. Those poor people!!! and more on the way, I hear.
Adele, are you in the sights of Jose? I’ve heard he’s going up the East coast. I haven’t heard anything more.
      Well, that’s all from here.
      take care,
      dd
PS: The pic of the river is the Columbia River, & the Columbia River Gorge, taken from the Wash. side looking across the river. I’m not sure how much of that is burned now, but I imagine a lot of it is.

      Hi DD,
I am glad that the rain has come and the air smells better. That is a shame that the fires are still burning but at least not as bad as they were. It is a shame that the environmentalists did not realize how important it is to keep the woods cut down to help prevent fires like we are getting now. Most of the loggers would replace the trees with young ones and keep it going. So there would be no erosion.
That Barbara C did really act weird. That was terrible to do that to Keo. He acted like he did not know what to say or do. I just hope that they show her a replay of how she acted and she will act more like a lady next time around.
I really enjoyed the pictures that you posted. The one with the snow man makes me think of when we were young and would go outside and play in the snow. I had four sisters so we always had some one to go out in the snow with and make a snow man. The other pictures just look so much like fall and so pretty.
You always decorate your apartment so cute it will be fun to see the pictures of what you do this year. I do not have any of my fall things out yet may do that one day this week-end.
Well that is all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi DD,
You are posting again and I just finished reading you last post. I must really get on here a lot later then everyone else. That is so sad to look at that one picture and know that those beautiful trees are burned. That must make everyone sad to know that all that is gone now. It will take such a long time for it all to grow back.
I have not seen the Halloween show yet. I recorded it and will watch it when I get off her of maybe in the morning. Hope that I find something that I would really like to have. I really like Anotnella also. She is always so cheerful. I wonder what happened to her cooking show? She makes some really good Italian food. She use to have a show on qvc but now it is just Mary and David.
Well that is about all from here.

      Hi Adele,
I am so glad that Gary is drinking the water and taking the water pill. It is a good sign that they did not call the doctor in to look at the echocardiogram. ( I hope that I spelt that right) It sometimes takes a scare to get a man to do the right things. I will never understand why they do not want to take care of themselves. It seems all men are that way.
I have not watched the Halloween show yet so will watch it when I get off of here. I have not read on here who won the hat guess it was none of us or we would have heard about it by now. Wish they would let one of us on here win once in awhile but I think that Gail is right they only do it with the live audience and FB people. Oh well.
I do not watch AGT so do not know who you are talking about. I guess I should watch it but it is hard to remember it is on. Ron does not like to watch those types of shows so usually watch something else. We watch a lot of movies and junk like that. We have really been on a Western kick here lately. Guess we go thru spells like that. We did watch the Santa Clause 3 with Tim Allen. Those are usually so funny.
That Barbara C.really was out of line on that show. Hope that she is not like that on the next one. They may vote her off the show next week. She wasn’t all that good a dancer and with the way she acted she needs to go.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Gail,
It is fun to watch the stars and how they improve every week. Some of the ones that look so clumsy really do a good job later. It does take a lot of courage to put yourself out there like that. It is just a fun show to watch. I think that Barbara C will be one of the first to leave. I did not think that she was that good at the dance that she did. Hope that she acts different next week.
It is a shame that they do everything on FB now. They do not give the non FB users a chance. to talk. I miss them coming on this site also. It was nice to hear from them once in awhile and at least know what was going on. Oh well I guess they might come back on here again sometime.
That is really cool that your sil will now have grandchildren to spoil. She will really enjoy have them around. I really like Leah Williams and did not realize all of this about her. There are not any of the hosts that I do not like on there anymore. It is nice to see Shawn smiling more now that she has the baby. You could tell that there was always some kind of sadness about her. Maybe I am just getting grouchy and that is why I think that way.
It is nice that the dogs just lay around and sleep. They sound like they are really quite. Austin is like that now. He is even walking a lot slower now. I just hope that nothing is going to happen to him. It seems like he gets more fleas and tics on him then Snoopy and we put medicine on them at the same time. Maybe he has sensitive skin and Snoopy does not.
I know how Gary feels about going to the doctor all the time. I have to go every six months now was going every three. All the blood sticks and all the junk that you have to go thru. They are not fun but I guess that we have to do it. How is Greg doing? I do not know why I was telling you about Gary. I think that my mind went on a mini vacation for a minute.
well that is all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi Barbara
You are so right about men and being diabetic. Women take so much better care of themselves. I am glad Colleen keeps her numbers in check, and pray she never gets anything like Gary is dealing with. Some times I forget she is a diabetic, and I hope what I say about Gary does not scare her.
Isn’t skype the best thing ever? you and Jerry can share these wonderful moments with your son and Itty Bitty, so far away. Did they film the haircut, or just send you a pic of it? how adorable!!
I hope you had a good time with your neighbors last night. I bet they loved your stew and corn bread. Tonight, I am doing the pizza again. If it stops raining, Bobby wants to grill a small pizza for himself. he saw someone do one, and wants to try it out himself. So, I have to make a little more dough….LOL
It is raining here again today. I swear, i am going to grow gills.
Heather and Marissa were goign to stop by today. You never know, if plans change or not, but, we will be here in the rain….
Hope your day is bright and sunny.

      Hi DD!
the hurricane is coming up here, but when it gets to the colder water, is lessens, so we are lucky in that area. i think it will stay off the coast, so all we will get is more rain, wind, and high surf with rip currents. It could turn, and then we will get more rain. You never know.
I cannot believe you had the heat on. usually, that is us. But, it has been humid up here- gross. I still have the air on, to keep the humidity out- it only goes on once in a while. The humidity really bothers me a lot.
I am glad you love your new pans. they are so pretty. My favorite pattern.
I love Antonella. She is my favorite host. I love listening to her. She is so real, and i enjoy her with Angel.
Did anyone win the witch hat yet?
I hope your day is going well, and the sun is shining out there….or do you still need more rain?

      Hi Colleen
You may be right. Barbara may be voted off first. She was not as good as everyone else, and I bet people didn’t like her comments. That willnot get her anywhere. It really hurt her image too.
Gary loves Westerns. he would be right there with Ron.
The Halloween show was fun to watch. Antonella was hot out there, whihc was funny, as I wold have melted….just like the Wicked witch of the West.
men are difficult when it comes to their health care. I hope all the stories about Gary are not scaring you. You take care of yourself, and should never reach that level. You always do what you need to do, and that is good.
I hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods!

      Barbara,
That was such good advice and good thoughts for Gary. It’s good having our resident nurse with years of wisdom and experience.
You are not bragging about Colin-you are sharing grandparenting experiences. lol We all love to hear about each other’s grands. That’s part of the fun of having them is swapping stories. I am impressed that he held so still for that haircut. Most of the time they are screaming and wiggling for that first experience and I must admit it would be kind of scary with the noise of the clippers and the strange person cutting their hair. I hope he got a treat for being such a good boy for the haircut.
I hope you have a fun dinner with your friends.
I do remember Dan and Pat and Murphy. What’s sort of cool about that was Murphy was the QVC dog and Dan’s wife was his trainer but he wasn’t married to her then. I think maybe that was how he met her-so I’m sure he had a special place in his heart for Murphy because he brought them together. Plus I do remember Jayne and Linda Davies always talking about playing tennis together. I wonder if they still do. I think they had a tennis bracelet and whoever won the last game got to wear it until they played again and then the person who won that match got to wear it. Does anyone else remember that or am I imagining it? Gosh I have been watching the Q for a long time-since before many of the older hosts were married or had kids.

No heat on here. It’s the first day of autumn and it’s going to be in the mid 90’s. The AC is blasting.
Wow! That poor cow got a wild ride! If she could only talk. lol
It seems to me I saw an outdoor fashion show not too long ago with a picnic. Maybe Jayne had one on that Monday morning fashion show on Labor Day.

      Colleen,
You gave me a good chuckle when all of a sudden you started talking to me about Gary and then said your mind had gone on a mini vacation. Don’t we all do that sometimes. It’s hard to keep all these husbands straight-you’ve got Gary that rhymes with Jerry and Gary and Greg that start with the same letter and Ron who loves some potato soup! lol It’s downright confusing.
I like the hosts too-some more than others just because I feel I have more in common with some. However, we are in the minority as there is always someone on the Q boards complaining about someone-although it has gotten better as the moderators will remove posts that are mean. I don’t see what the point is in getting on and posting something bad about these women who are just coming to work to do a job. But some people are so mean and will just pick on someone just because they can. I always think about how bad some of the hosts would feel if they went to the forums and read some of the unkind things that people wrote about them. They would have to have a thick skin. I’m so happy that Shawn finally got her baby as I know what it’s like to want to be a mother so bad and not have your body cooperate-plus I always have a soft spot for her as one time I had a question and e-mailed her and she got back to me with such a quick response. This was in the days before Facebook when you could actually e-mail the hosts.
How old is Austin now? I’m surprised that if you treat them both at the same time that Austin gets more fleas and ticks-actually I’m surprised that they get any at all if you treat them with a preventative. Our dogs never got anything and we treated them monthly. But they were indoor dogs and were not out running through woods and fields all day long either so maybe that is the difference.
I wonder who won the hat too. I thought they were going to announce it at the end of the show yesterday. Hmmm! Maybe the contest is still going on-I will try and check.
I am excited as I see Kirk’s Folly is coming back to QVC and we all know I was a fan. They are going to be on Q2 next week. After they left the Q they totally went out of business and then about a year ago I got an E-mail that they were starting up again. I’m surprised they are going back to the Q as they sort of dropped them like a hot potato. I remember years ago when they used to have the sets and everyone was dressed up. It was a lot of fun watching all that. Kind of like Quacker for jewelry.

      Hi Adele,
I kept on meaning to ask if you were getting a lot of rain from the remnants of the hurricanes. You have had a very rainy summer. Thank goodness it wasn’t snow.
It’s funny I was saying something similar to Greg about the two little girls at the end of the show standing on that big stage all by themselves. How much stress and pressure that must be and they couldn’t even have their parents standing there with them holding their hand and giving them hugs. It’s hard enough for an adult to be in that position let alone a child. It made me sad for both of them and I hope they will both be okay in the future.
If only you could make Gary realize that if he tries his hardest to keep the diabetes under control he would actually have less and less doctor’s visits-just for check ups but when he lets it get into crisis situations is when he has to see the doctor more. Somewhere I read a quote about how we can’t control the hand we are dealt but we can control how we deal with it. He should challenge himself to be the best diabetes patient ever. Ignoring it is not going to make it go away-it just makes it worse. So Gary-there’s your lecture from Gabby Gail today. lol
I didn’t realize that you could turn the cake plate over into a chip and dip. I like that it has a top. That makes it much more practical than a plate on a stand. Do the serving pieces have a harvest design on them ?

Just saw on Facebook that Nancy Bank won the hat. I never know the people except the sunflower seed one. I know Coetta & she won one of those. The contests have nothing to do with Facebook. They are on here. I think that is why so many sign up here to enter the contest & then are never heard from again. I know a lot of Quackers from the cruise & none of them ever win either. So I keep entering although I never win & don’t expect I ever will.

About AGT I am happy for the winner but do not know why they have kids. Are kids allowed to perform in Vegas? I know there is an age limit in a lot of the places. They will have plenty of time once they grow up. I thought she was great just think it is not a kids place in Vegas. I was however glad it was not a singer. There are way to many of them & they have other shows that are just for singers. Don’t get me wrong I love listening to them & some are very good I just like to see other acts get a chance. So that is my 2 cents.

As far as DWTS I think they had a much better group last year. Last year they were all good right at the start. This year they are not so good & if given the chance may improve & be great. But the low scores that most got tell me the judges agree. They gave high scores the first show last year 8’s to this years5’s. I also don’t like just one judge giving their opinion as they often disagree & I like to hear what each one thinks. It is going to be on 2 nights the show Monday & results Tuesday. I usually miss the results show but read who was voted off.

      Hi Ladies,
Just a quick note to let you know that Tom Selleck will be on Kelly & Ryan this week. I think the stars of the new season’s TV shows will be hitting the talk shows this week. Someone told me the cast of This Is Us will be on one of the talk shows, but couldn’t remember which one. all we can do is keep our eyes on the TV guides.
Chilly temps today. Warmer this coming week.
      Have a great weekend girls.

Gosh, does it make me feel good to know you all have been watching the Q a long time like me. I remember how when I was a little girl, my grandmother would talk back to the TV while her soap opera shows would play. She acted like they were real people and she wouldn’t miss a show for anything. I must admit; watching the TV gives me company and I laugh along with them when they say funny things by mistake or just mess up in general; since it is live TV and we all know that sometimes things just don’t come out of our mouth the way we intended them to. I know some people say, “well they don’t give two hoots about you, they are just selling” on those Q boards; but I don’t believe that about them. I really feel they are genuinely nice people; who are fortunate enough to have good jobs; and they really appreciate what they do. But I still miss them having a “resident” puppy dog on the set. He was a lot of fun to me. I didn’t know that’s how Dan met his wife. That makes it even better to me. I am so proud for Shawn too for becoming a Mother. She will be a good one; I think; she seems so proud of their baby; and the baby is cute as a button.
THis is cowboy day at the Smith homestead. Jerry has been watching Gunsmoke literally most of the day. We had such a good time with our neighbors last night. They really seemed to enjoy it too. THey are such good people. His wife was talking to me as the men folk were talking farming stuff; about how her husband get mad over “nothing” when he was in a good mood just minutes before; and how hard it is right now to see him like this. I told her to check with the doctor; but it may be from his having a stroke; that some part of his brain was low on oxygen for a little time; and this is a side effect of that. I told her that I noticed how I have “weepy” times more now than I did before my stroke; and from all the research I have done on strokes; that changes or mood swings can happen afterward; and it’s just part of what happened; but to be sure and make the doctor aware.
Joey came by and picked up some soup and pie for him and Lisa this morning after he got off work. He is a good boy. Why do we worry as much about our grown children as we did when they were little? Guess love is just love; no matter what the age.
Better make this one short. Jerry wants to take a little walk before dark> Whoo Hoo!!!!! Have a great evening. Barbara

      Hi Barbara,
I do not believe that about the hosts on the q. We have all watched their kids grow up and go off to college and shared their grief when they have miscarried. We worried about Caroline Gracie when she had to go for surgery and have her breast removed. I think that they feel the same about all of us and do not want to see bad things happen to any of us. People have to remember if it wasn’t for us they would not have jobs. I think that the are grateful that we watch them and keep watching them. I like all of the hosts right now. They are all really enjoyable to watch. There is only one person on there that really drives me crazy and that is Susan Graver. She walks around all the time and just chatters and chatters the whole time she is on air. I would not want to have to do that job.
Sounds like you had a really good time with your neighbors the other night. It was nice that you two women to could talk and talk about her husband getting mad all of a sudden. That was good advice to give her to go and talk to the doctor and let him know what is going on.
That is so cool that Neal skyped Jerry and talked to him about grilling the meat. I can imagine how great he felt. I always felt bad that we did not have a son for Ron. He would have really liked to have a son. How cut getting to see Colin get his first hair cut. You just brag away. We sure do enough of it when we talk about our grands. There is nothing like it.
Antonella is really close to her family. She is really good with younger kids you could tell by the way she was treating that little girl of Kristies on the Falloween show. I think that is how you spell her name. Those shows were so much fun to watch. I do not know the girls that got picked to get the hats. I am happy for them for winning. Just wish it would have been one of us. lol
I do not know how I missed your post from the other day. I am really getting bad. I answered DD twice and missed yours. My brain keeps going on mini vacations.
My daughter and her family have moved to Tennessee and really love it there. The grands started school there and they fit right in. I guess in the town where they live they have school year round. They only get a month off in the summer and then they are back at school. I do not know how I feel about that but we will see how it works out. They went to a park the other day that had a waterfall there. Kaylee was so impressed with it. She wants us to come and see it. So I guess before too long we will be going to Tennessee.
Diabetes is not fun but there are a lot of things that you can have that are not fun. I am just lucky to have good doctors that help me to keep my sugar down.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Gail,
that is a shame that those ladies cannot talk about different things then what the hosts are like. If they do not like them they can always change the channel. QVC is fun to watch and if it is show that I am not interested in I just watch something else. It has nothing to do with the hosts though, Have you seen any of the Christmas shows that they have on today? I have watched a couple and wanted to watch the one they are having tonight about the toys. May not though Ron is watching Country Family Reunion and Larry’s Country Dinner. So guess I will have to look on the computer tomorrow and see what was on there. Wish he would watch some of the things that I like. That will never happen though. Have you heard what Shawn named her baby? It seems like she said tonight but I did not understand what she said.
Austin is 7 now. He is getting old. We think that he has sensitive skin and we need to ask the vet. We have to take Snoopy to have him fixed he really needs to have that done. He has been running off at night and that is a good sign there is a female around that is in heat. So we will check on Austin when we take Snoopy.
I saw on here the names of who won the hats. It is on the home page at the bottom where they have that short thing that Patrick and Angel post of fb. I did not know either one of the winners. I hope that they enjoy the hats and am happy for them. It would have been nice if one of us would have won but maybe one of these years we will.
We put that liquid stuff on the dogs once a month and we have a powder that we use inbetween times. They just will not stay out of the woods. They like to chase the little critters into the woods and try to catch them. They usually do not and just come back and lay down to rest and wait for the next animal to come in the yard. lol What a way to spend your day.
Aliza is coming to stay with us again in October. I think it is the 3rd and the 4th so it will be fun to have her here again. Ron got her eating green peppers cut up. He would dip his in ranch dressing but she just eats hers plain. Danyielle was surprised when she saw her eating it like that. I told her that it was from hanging out with her grandpa. He will have her eating raw onions before he is done.
Well that is about all from here. Hope you are having a good week-end.

      Hey Gail
the cake dish does have the new Harvest, raised design. I wish I had made a round cake this weekend, so I could have tried it out. i did a new recipe form Martha Stewart’s magazine- Snickerdoodle Crumb bars- they were a bot hit yesterday- no complaints on them! bobby got me the apples to do a recipe i cut out form the Food network magazine- Apple Pie Bars. But, it is way too hot to put the oven on again- 90’s and humid. gross. This is what replaced the rain for days and days- and yes, it was the left over mess from the hurricane.
All our hubbies do have similar names. It is kind of funny.
I live that “words to live by”…..you can control how you deal them. I am going to use that one.
Funny, I told Gary the exact same thing- if he does what he is supposed to do, there would be way less doctor appointments to annoy him.
We should have a special column for words to live by, and daily lectures…..LOL LOL
I am waiting for my new outdoor metal witch- she holds a lantern that is run by solar. Can’t wait! But, it does look odd out there in the heat.
Hope your day is goign well.

You know, I wonder if they should consider a show for the kids. How they can perform in Vegas is a it of a challenge. Vegas is way to adult for an adorable child. I also wonder what happens to their school work, and friends??? You are a child for such a short time.
i sometimes miss the second show of the week too. I wish they would not draw it out so much. Announce who is gone, and get on to the next dance. You think they are tying to fill up the summer schedule???

I have this pretty picture of you and Jerry strolling along, enjoying the Fall air, and smelling the inside fires people light this time of year. Don’t you just love that smell?
You are such a valuable resource to all of us on here, with all your nursing experience, and in your neighborhood too. I bet you made your neighbor feel more comfortable about what she is dealing with about her hubby. I sometimes forget you had a stroke. I do remember how scared you were when you were first recovering. We were all worried about you, and praying for the best.
We all worry about our kids, no matter how old they are. that never stops. comes with the territory.

      Hi Everyone,
I have been watching the Christmas shows. I’m glad that they have them scattered in amongst other shows so we don’t get overloaded.
I was looking online and it looks like the winner of AGT appears in Las Vegas for three nights and it said also appearing will be Angelica Hale, Preacher Lawson and the light show guys. So it’s not like she will have a residency there or anything. It won’t be much different than appearing onstage at a concert in any city.
Barbara, I’m glad that you had fun with your neighbors and were also able to give them good advice about post stroke situations.
Did you and Jerry have a lovely moonlight stroll the other night?
Colleen, you will have to tell us how the kids like year round school after they have been there for a bit.
I believe Shawn’s baby is named Jagger Jude.
Your dogs probably have the perfect dog life-chasing squirrels and taking naps-it’s like heaven for dogs. lol
I’m spoiling Jenny’s dogs and letting them on the couch by me as they aren’t allowed on the furniture at home. Typical grandma Gigi stuff. lol I think they are enjoying the peace and quiet.
I hope you have lots of fun when Aliza comes back. Next Ron will be having her eat rutabagas lol. I know Piper does love her cucumbers. Greg will drop some off from the garden and they will be gone before anyone else gets any.
Adele, did you get your witch yet-where did you order it from? I hope Gary gets good news from the doctor. You will have to work on making a round cake this week so you can display it on the new plate.

Good evening ladies. Yes, Gail, we did do a little “necking” on our stroll. It was so peaceful (except for the hound dog baying at something off in the field). Our little doggie who just wandered up, Scrappy, has this “problem” of just barking this extremely high pitched squeaky like bark just out of no where. You never know when he is going to do it’. So he had several episodes of this during our walk. It’s like living on a funny farm and I expect to see Chevy Chase and the rest of the Griswalds any minute. So when I say “peaceful” that is Smith normal behavior; not quiet by any means. LOL It was really nice though; to just re-connect. Haven’t had much time to just be us in what seems like forever.
Adele, I could crawl right into your pizza photo. It looks so beautiful that it could be an ad in a food magazine. Gosh, no wonder it is a weekly tradition. That dough looks like it just melts in your mouth. Do you watch any of the cooking or baking shows on the food network. I am watching the Halloween baking contest now. It is just amazing to me what these folks can do. It seems like there are special themed shows for each season and holiday. I know you can’t wait to get your solar witch. Love anything solar. I have lots of Plow and Hearth. Funny story, about 3 summers ago I purchased a little boy (about 2 feet tall) in his little blue jeans and a little girl with a bunny at her feet. I sat each one at the top of the steps going up onto the front porch. That way the morning sun could reach the solar area. Jerry and I are driving up our drive one afternoon last week; and right before we get to the house he said “so you got more yard decorations; we already have too many”. I told him “are you trying to say that this is the first time you have seen those? I bought them years ago! And he swears he never saw them before that day. And you know what; I believe him. He just doesn’t pay attention to some things at all; and others he can tell you if it was moved one inch in 20 years. LOL Men say and do the goofiest things; and he surely keeps me on my toes. How is Gary doing now since a little time has passed since he lost his brother. Hope he is doing better. How is your SIL adjusting?
Gail, you are a good Grand Puppy person too. I know they love to come visit. Lisa always dresses up all of our furry friends for Halloween and Christmas. Auto Kitty gets so insulted. He tolerates it; but he keeps his ears laid back and sometimes he turns his back to Lisa. And if we laugh; that makes it even worse; and him madder. Ruby loves to dress up. She lets Lisa paint her nails too. And she sits so still. Does your Snoopy look like the Peanuts Snoopy dog? Do you dress up your kitty DD?
I missed quite a bit of the Christmas shows. So I looked on the computer. I just couldn’t resist the little Gund doggie that sings the ABC;s and counts 1-10. I went ahead and had it sent to Colin. So I called Neal so he would be watching for it to be delivered.
How are your eyes doing, Gail and Colleen? This has been a busy summer for medical things hasn’t it? Hope all is going well. Sue, I bet your knee does ache with the change in the temperature. You have surely done well with your surgery and all your recovery. You really worked hard.
Better close for now. A turkey sandwich is calling me. Jerry is eating leftovers tonight. He is reheating the soup. If there was more of it; I would too. Take care all. It was so terrible about the people being hurt close to Nashville. You just never know what in the world is going to happen anymore. There just seems to be more mean people now. I just don’t know how people could be so cruel to one another. Hugs to all, Barbara

      Hi Gail,
I watched some of the Christmas shows today also. They really have the schedule messed up though. They were supposed to have a show the joy of toys and it was Valarie I was very disappointed.
I wonder where Shawn got the name for her baby. That is an unusual name. It is interesting how different the names are now days. I guess our parents thought that when we named our kids also. When we named Danyielle it was an unusual name until she started school and then we found out that it was really common. There were a lot of Danyielle’s they just spell their name different.
It will be interesting when the dogs go home. Wonder if they will get up on the furniture or not. I try to tell my kids my house my rules so if the dogs get on the furniture and you do not mind then that is fine.
That is funny that Piper likes cucumbers and Aliza green peppers. At their ages it is usually hard to get them to eat things like that. Our cucumbers did not do well this summer. At first they looked like they were going to be really good but then we quit getting rain and that was it. So no pickles this year. The girls were disappointed.
It will be interesting to find out how they like school all year round. I think that it would make it hard to plan vacations and things but who knows.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Barbara,
It is nice to do a little necking once in awhile. Your walk sounds really nice. You were lucky that only one of the dogs followed you it is a shame that is the one that howls. That was nice that you got to reconnect like that.
Men are not very observant some times. That was funny that you had that boy and girl on your porch for a long time and he just noticed them. You could move them some where else and he would think that they were new again.lol
They had some cute things on the Christmas shows today. I did not buy anything because they did not have anything that I needed. I have so much stuff now that there is not enough room for it. I ordered Teddy Ruxpin for Aliza in July. So I am done with her for Christmas. Now I need to get the rest of the kids done. Not sure what I will get them. Colin will love that Gund dog their things are so cute.
Snoopy will get near us if we want to put anything on him. He strictly goes with the hairy look. Austin would probably let us dress him up but he would not be happy. He is just old and does not move fast enough. Our Snoopy is black with a little white on his paws and on her head.He does not have a spot on him.
My eyes are doing great. I am so glad that I had that surgery done.
Well that is all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Colleen,
I think I read an explanation for the names Shawn gave her daughter but I’ve forgotten what it was already-although I’m thinking it may be from the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.
We didn’t have a lot of Danyielles around here-in fact I can’t think of any-at least you had a different spelling for the name if it was common in your area. Of course there were tons of Jennifers and Jessicas in Jenny’s age group-I actually wanted to name her Cydnee and Greg just wouldn’t agree and I still regret that as Jennifer was so common and I still like the name Cydnee. Sometimes Greg can be an old killjoy-he just doesn’t get it.
The dogs do try to sneak up on the furniture when I am at Jenny’s but they lay in their dog bed when I am not around. I am a bad influence. I guess four of them were on Dramamine yesterday-I told Jenny to be sure and bring some along as you never know who might be bothered by seasickness.
We didn’t have many cukes this year either. Greg thought it was because he tried a new way of growing them. We also had lots of rain early and now have had none for quite awhile. Who knows why some years are better for the different veggies.

      Barbara,
Thanks for reminding me about the Halloween baking contest. I saw it advertised and then forgot about it. I love to see what they create on those shows.
I bet Colin will love the little doggie. They have such cute toys for the really small kids.
My eye is doing good. Keep knocking wood.
We never dressed our dogs for Halloween although somewhere there is a picture of Rocky in a spider costume-he didn’t mind wearing it at all. It’s funny when they were young he didn’t mind if you put stuff on him and Belle didn’t like it at all. Then when they got older and I wanted to put sweaters on them in the winter Belle would let me-she actually loved it-I guess she was cold and if i put the sweater on Rocky he wouldn’t move until I took it off-it really bothered him and i really wanted him to wear it as in his later years he would shiver right after he got a haircut as I guess it was harder to regulate his body temperature. The last Christmas he was with us the dog sitter made him a bed and the groomer gave him a thing that you could heat in the microwave and put inside the bed to keep him warm.
You know that story about Jerry and the lawn ornaments reminded me of Greg. We have lived in this house for twenty years and there are dishes and utensils in the kitchen that he has no idea where they belong if he had to put them away. I don’t know how you can live somewhere for 20 years and not know where everything is. Men are sure silly! lol

i am not surprised the cold bothers the knee. It really takes a year to completely heal, and it will get achy when the weather changes.
It is gross humidity here again today. On Thursday the weather is supposed to change.

Did you see The Good doctor? I cried twice….LOL

      Hey Gailster
the witch is supposed to be delivered to day. I am so excited. I’m like a little kid. It is form a catalog called “Improvements”. I tried to order these cool set of 3 stacking pumpkins, with the urn to put them in, so it can stay out until Christmas- they were already out of stock on that one.
Gary went to the ER last night- did not get back until almost midnight. he went after he was at the night school at the Voc. They were very crowded- the nurse said it was nuts all day yesterday, most due to the heat. he has a skin infection. Since his skin broke down on his legs after the shoulder surgery, i honestly feel he will be dealing with this for the rest of his life. he is on a heavy duty antibiotic.
Hope all is better at your place!

Read my post to Gail for the witch news…she is coming today…flying in on the “Present Man truck”. LOL
I used to use the frozen bread dough for the pizza. Now, i make it myself, with the pizza flour from King Arthur- it is quite yummy. I think you could even do it plain, with an egg wash on it and make it a flat bread. Thank you for your compliments. Imagine if we all lived near each other? We would be asking Quacker to make size 5X.
That is hysterical that there was some smooching going on in Tennessee, out in the open….LOL Hey, we can do what we want. I bet our neighbors all have chuckles about us.
my SIl is surprisingly doing good. her sister was here until yesterday. I think that was good too. yesterday, she was goign to her daughter’s for a BBQ. She is very close to her 2 daughters, and their families. they each live within minutes of her.
Gary is doing well with the loss too. he keeps telling people nobody should have to suffer alike his brother did. Seeing him that last day made you realize he is in a much better place. you could see how much pain he was in. the poor man could not even blink, and had his eyes wide open, with no life in them. It was awful. He had his mouth wide open, and was gasping for breathes. Your heart just broke watching him. Nobody wanted him to continue suffering, and I think that gave them some peace on his passing. this was the worst end of life situation I have ever seen, and I have had a lot of people go from cancer, and never thought I would see anything worst. But, i did. i am glad we were there, to support, and comfort my SIL, and her daughter. i still see his face is so much pain. that just does not leave you. I imagine you saw a lot of people like that in your career. God bless you. I know you comforted many, many people in this situation.

Oh yes, Gary ahs no idea what is in here. He was convinced I got a new lamp, when I moved it to another table in the living room. Literally 4 feet away from where it was. Using that to my advantage, I have been known to respond…..”what, this old thing” when aksed is something is new….LOL

      Hi Ladies,
Earth to Adele, lol. I see Gail beat me to it. You guys make me laugh. “This old thing” reminds me of what Lucy would say to Ricky when she bought a new dress. she’d tell him it wasn’t new, she’d say “this old thing” to avoid a fight.
I wonder who will be voted off DWTS tonight? Any ideas? No surprise last night. The football player? He was having a hard time with the dance practice for last night’s dance. Poor Cheryl.
we’re heating up again this week. Low 80s for Wed. & Thurs, then back to normal temps. Hopefully some more rain. The fire is still burning but in steep canyons, no homes are in danger as far as I know. It has slowed down from spreading. I’m gonna have a friend take me out to see the damage. You can’t get a good idea of the damage just from the news. Portland is going to do what ever it takes to get the gorge back. The highway is back open & people are heading out there to help out as best they can. businesses took a big hit when they had to shut down the highway 3 weeks ago.. They rely heavily on tourists $ to make it thru the winter months. In the winter months the Gorge is a nightmare. Ice, snow, bitter cold wind. It will take all that to put out the fire completely.
No, I don’t dress Jewell for Halloween. She wouldn’t let me!! My hands would end up looking like hamburger if I tried. lol
Well, I guess that’s all for now.

That is probably where we got it form- the Lucy Show. Those were the best. Lucy and Ethel were hysterical.
I will watch the second half of the show, as i am dying to see This is Us.
You have had an awful lot of fire, and damage in your neck of the woods. I hope it ends quick. Just thinking of where the animals will go is awful, let alone all the vegetation lost and people’s homes. Fires do so much damage. I hope they are done for this year, and that none happen next summer.
Hope you are good, and got something pretty for yourself on the Christmas shows.

      Hi Adele,
I desperately need the recipe that you gave me for the gravy. I have a bunch of tomatoes and cannot find the recipe. I do not know what I did with it. I need to make it tomorrow before the tomatoes start to go bad. I hope that this will be no trouble. I have looked thru all the back posts from the last two years. Well 2016 and 2017 and couldn’t find it. I am sorry to bug you again about it but everyone really liked it and my mom wants me to make her some also.
Did the nurses come in and wipe his eyes and swab his mouth? It would have been nice if they would have done that. I was not there so should not say anything.
If you ever get bored you should go back and read some of our old posts. Some of the pictures that were posted are so funny and I had forgotten that they were posted. They are the ones that Gail and DD posted that they got off of other sites. It is fun to see where we were last year. Just remembering some of the things that were going on.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi Gail,
It is strange how different have different names that are popular in their area. There were not a lot of Jessica’s or Jennifers around where we lived. I do like the name Jenny though it is really a cute name. Cydnee is a really pretty name also. I wonder why Greg did not like it.
With the name I thought that the baby was a boy. I wonder if they will nickname her Jag? That would be one thing that I would worry about. Amanda was the only one of my girls that had a nick name. Everyone always called her Mandy. Danyielle made it clear to everyone that she would not answer to the name Danny. She was funny when she was young. I keep telling her that someone is going to start to call Aliza Liza and that will stick with her. She keeps saying it won’t happen but we will wait and see.
Your garden sounds like ours. AT the beginning of the year it looked like we were going to have more cucumbers then we could eat but that is not how it turned out. We now have more tomatoes then we could ever eat at one time. I am going to make that sauce again and freeze it. I had to ask Adele for the recipe again I lost mine. You never know for sure which veggies will grow one year from the next. One thing that you can count on is hot peppers they will grow thru any type of weather.
Are the kids back yet from their vacation? I bet they are having a great time. You will miss the dogs once they go home. It is easy to get attached to them. There has only been one dog that I would never take even if they paid me to take them. That is this little dog Melissa has. He never listens and will not let you know when he has to go outside. He also gets into the trash and he is a little dog. I just do not like it when I see him coming up to the door when they arrive.
Did you watch DWTs tonight? I do not know how I feel about who got voted off the show. That one guy that plays sports is not that good a dancers and he stayed on the show. He should have gone home this time around. He is just so tall that it will be hard for him to dance the way that he is supposed to. That is just my opinion but others must have thought differently.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi DD,
I just love the Christmas pictures. I am getting excited for Christmas to come. I have some shopping done but not all of it. It will be nice to have the cold weather that comes with that time of the year.
I was disappointed in who went home tonight. That Debbie was doing so well and she did better then the football player. I guess he is the one that is so tall. He just looks awkward when he dances.
I was hoping that the fires were done burning by now. That is terrible that it has not stopped. Glad that no homes are in danger right now. The damage has to be devastating. It will be sad to go and see it. Did very many people lose their homes? Your temperatures are going up and ours are going down. It is a strange summer this year. We just keep hoping that the temps will stay down this time and not go back up to the really hot temps that we have had. We need rain we have not had any in I do not know how long. We will really need the fall rains this year.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Colleen,
We need rain too. There are a lot of dry leaves on the ground and we usually don’t see that much until October.
I hope Adele sees your post and you get the sauce recipe so you can make the gravy. It sounds like it was really popular around there.
Jenny is actually Jennifer and that’s what we called her until she got older and didn’t want to be called that and insisted on being called Jenny-so she made that decision herself. Just like my sister who is Susan and when we were younger we called her Sue but when she got older she wanted to be called Susan. I guess Gail is easy as there is no nickname for it so no one can play around with it.
They will be home Friday evening. It sounds like they are having fun from the posts on Facebook. I guess some of them had to take dramamine for dizziness but no one was actually sick to their stomach.
I finally got to watch both episodes of DWTS last night. I wasn’t sad to see Barbara go though i felt bad for Keo. Last night was a different story. I think everyone was surprised to see Debbie go instead of Terrel. But I have a theory on that-I think Debbie went because her partner Alan is relatively new and hasn’t worked up a fan base yet. On the other hand people seem to love Cheryl so they will keep her on longer even though Terrel isn’t that good-plus I don’t like his attitude-but that will only work for so long and he will be voted off too. I felt bad as Debbie was really enjoying her time on the show.

      Hi Adele,
I think I am the only person on earth who doesn’t watch This Is Us. I hear such good things about it but i just don’t have the time to catch up on the first season. I am still a season behind on The Black List and am wondering if it is worth it to me to catch up or should I just drop it. There is just so much time in the day for TV. Plus I hear This Is Us is the kind of show that makes you cry all the time and I just don’t know if I want to sob for an hour each week. lol
I hope Gary is doing better. He’s had a tough year.

Yes, the nurses took very good care of my BIL. he was even on a special air mattress to reduce the stress and pain. They were really good with him, and my SIL was there every single day. the whole thing is so terribly sad.
Where are all the old posts? I should do that, but, i never seem to have any time aorund here. i can’t believe how n=busy I am in retirement….LOL
Enzo’s parents are coming tonight to pay their respects to Gary, so I made a cake. i decided to make Gary’s Mom’s cake, to christen the Harvest cake plate. I thought it was a nice gesture for Gary to have his Mom’s cake, as I know she would have at least make him a cake when he is sad. i am attaching a pic of it, so you all can see. The cake cooked faster, and if I did not check, it owuld have been ruined- I think it cooked about 2 minutes too much. I hope it is not dried out. It is a sponge cake, with orange juice in it. Very tasty. His Mom made it for all the Jewish holidays where you could serve flour products.
I hope you are already making the gravy!!

I throw a lot of them out too. that is one I thumb through, as it has some gadgets to help with things you have trouble with. I bet our mailmen want to cry every time they come to our houses/ You should see my recycling bin. We have more recycling than we have trash.
I saw some pics of Jenny and the kids on Facebook, when I went in to sat Happy Birthday to a friend. She did make a comment about not being used to the rocking. I would say the ocean is more active because of all the storms circling aorund.
Gary is off at his GP appointment. He will be getting a new kidney doctor. I will have to go to that appointment. I stayed back today, as with company coming, I had to make a cake. Short notice….LOL His GP will be checking his legs, and reviewing the test- they already called with the results, and explained them in detail. His blood work came back all good. The echo was not back yet. I know if it were bad, we would have received a call right away. So, i expect him to just come back saying his doctor is pleased the wounds look better- they sure do. It is amazing what an antibiotic will do.
How are you and Greg doing? I bet you have been missing the kids.
Our weather is finally going to change tonight- the gross humidity is supposed to be gone. Yahoo!! Marissa is going apple picking, so I need it cooler to bake my apples off….LOL

It is warm here in Tenn. today; but a cold front is due to pass through sometime tonight; and then our temps will change about 20 degrees or so they say. When this happens; people in our area always get sick with the sinus, bronchitis thing. So that reminds me; I need to add hand sanitizer to my list for Walmart tomorrow. It is time to restock and I am thinking very seriously about going online and doing the grocery ordering thing where you set up a time to come pick things up that you ordered. Have any of you tried this or a similiar service? Sometimes, like every time, I get SO tired of walking though that whole big store and it just seems everything I need in from one end to the other. When we take Jerrys Mom; I get one of those scooters for her to ride on; and we almost run over several unsuspecting customers while there. But she does really well; all things considered. We are picking her up Friday and going to take her out shopping and then back here to eat dinner with us. She is adament that she get “home” before dark. She has asked me if I would mind baking her a chocolate pie; so that is easy and I will bake one for her. That was so sweet of you to make Gary his special cake for today, Adele. Little things can make such a difference in letting someone know how much we love them. Glad the antibiotics are helping his legs. My SIL who lost her husband a few years ago; is diabetic; and she just recently had to have a toe removed. She just didn’t feel the pain from the toe due to nerve loss. I think she will end up moving to Michigan to be with her other daughter now. We are all still in shock over the loss of her oldest daughter. She is the reason she moved to Missouri two years ago. It will be hard on her to make this move. I surely hate to see her go; but she is sad and lonely there now. Her daughter kept her busy; and now; she is alone most of the time. I will call her later today to check on her again.
I did a roast and veggies in the crock pot today. It surely smells good, but Jerry prefers doing one in the oven. Just to warm here today for that oven. LOL I stopped at the bakery in town earlier and bought us and two big eclairs. I can’t wait to bite into it. ha ha. I wish I could do one from scratch. I just love them; with the custard, the chocolate, and the flaky pastry. Can you tell?
Sounds like your family have had a wonderful trip, Gail. Glad nobody got sea sick. We haven’t ever been on a cruise. Jerry is adament he will not go. He doesn’t like “crowds”. I know; it makes no sense; because I love visiting with people and just “watching” others have fun, but he wants his bed, his comfy chair, and even though he is very sociable with others; he likes his privacy. I know a lot has to do with his back issues; so I try to keep this in mind. Anyone who is able to be up and about and do their everyday activities; are so fortunate; and I know we just don’t seem to count our blessings; until we lose something. Sorry, didn’t mean to be mundane.
I am sitting here so sleepy that I think I might just doze off while typing. LOL Sorry girls; but even though it is late to nap; I am going to lie down for about 30 minutes. I have probably done nothing but make you all want to doze off too. Take care everyone, and have a great evening. Barbara

      Hi Adele,
If you want to find all the old posts just go to General Quacker Chatter. Just press on the month and year that you want. I am not sure how far it goes back but it still has 2017 and 2016 on here. It was just fun to look at the old pictures and to see the picture of the mailbox that you bought to put out front. I think that we were in a little better health there for awhile.
It is hard to work in a nursing home. You get attached to the patients and their families. There is just a lot to do and there is never enough help. People call out because they are sick are they just cannot handle coming in for that day. It is hard to lose a patient.
That is so nice that Enzo’s parents are coming to pay their respects to you and Gary. They sound like really nice people. The cake looks really good. That is another one of the things that you have baked that it makes everyone want to reach thru the picture and get a bite. I really like that cake plate. You got a really good deal on that.
I did make the gravy tonight it is still cooking. After I am done here I will take it off the stove and start putting it into bowls to freeze. I got a late start could not find the spices that went into the gravy but finally found a recipe in an old cook book. The one that you sent me was not the one that you sent me the first time. There were no meat balls in that one at all.
That is good news that Gary’s leg is looking better. Hope that the rest of the tests that he had are all okay. It is hard to have to keep having all the tests run.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Gail,
I thought that Debbie was very gracious when she got voted off and really said some nice things. I do not know what it is about Terrel that they keep him on but they should not have done that and voted a really good person off the show. Guess that I should not complain since I never vote. I do not always watch the show in time to vote though.
It will be nice when the kids get back and you will get to see them all. Piper will have some stories to tell. The other kids probably will also but will not be as dramatic. lol
I never had a nickname either. There is just not too much that you can come up with when you have a name like mine. The only thing that I got teased about was my initials spelt cab. The kids use to laugh when they would talk about our initials. I could have walked out of class when the nun started talking about them. Not mine she was just telling us about signing our initials on certain things and what they were.
Well nothing exciting is going on here. So I will sign off. Have a great night.

      Hi Barbara,
I am always ready for nap time. Ron and I both take one just about everyday. We even go as far as not answering our phone during that time. We are serious nappers. lol
My daughter and her family love Tennessee. I cannot believe how much they love it. She said that there is all kinds of things to do out side and keep the kids busy. The kids love the schools and my grand son thinks that the girls are really pretty. He said that there were three that really like him but there is only one that he likes. We were going to tease him about that but decided not to. This is a new school and it is nice that he likes it as much as he does.
I use those scooters now. I do not care how it looks are if people look at me like I am strange. You can get around the store better and can look for what you want. They are always changing things around in there. (Wal Mart) It is too big a store to have to keep walking around looking for things. So if the ordering things does not work out try the scooter.
That is so nice that you are making Jerry’s mom a chocolate pie. She will really love that. The day out that you have planned for her sounds really nice. She will enjoy getting out and then having dinner with you and Jerry. Sorry to hear that your sil is moving away. It will be nice for her to be with her daughter. It will give them time to get close again and do things together.
We are finally cooling off here again. We were really hot and humid for awhile and it was miserable. It is going to get down in the 50’s tonight so no air on tonight. That will be really nice. Hope that your warm weather goes away also.
Your dinner sounds really good. Hope that Jerry enjoyed it even though it was not in the oven. If it is hot it makes it even worse when you turn the oven on. You were smart to use the crock pot.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Barbara!
i am DYING to use the crock pot. It has been way too hot up here for it, as it really warms up the kitchen.
It is supposed to get cooler by late tonight. Thank God. the humidity has been so bad, the front window has been fogging up at night.
Everyone loved the cake- one piece left. I really loved the presentation with the new Temptations cake platter/saver. It looked so pretty. They brought some pastries, and I put them in the cake saver, with the leftover piece of cake, and it looks so nice. I love that Temptations Harvest pattern. I know DD loves it too. She just got the set of 3 baking pans.
I hope you have a good time with Jerry’s Mom. How nice she asked you to make her favorite pie. I find when someone asks for something they love, it makes me feel so good to bake something for them. I know you feel the same way.
I have a recipe to make eclairs, but, I have not done it. I do make the pastry cream that goes inside them for Gary’s Boston Cream pie. I find it funny that they call it a pie, as it is really a cake.
I hope you 3 are having a great time today. I am so sorry about Jerry’s brother. so sad to lose a sibling.

      Hi Colleen
I am glad you got the gravy done. I bet your house smells great.
The rest of his tests came back ok. The echo cardiogram showed no problems. He is committed to taking the fluid pill every day, and that will ensure the legs do not swell.
I cannot imagine working in a nursing home, as a lot of the residents will not be there too long. Of course you got attached, they become your children, the poor things. End of life is so sad. The nursing homes need more caring people like you.
the weather here will be cooler by some time tonight. Thank God! I am so tired of the humidity. If I liked that weather, i would be in Florida.
I hope your weather is good, and the sun is shining for you.

      Hi Barbara,
Hope your nap was good. I love taking a little nap myself.
I think that’s cute that your MIL needs to be home before dark-maybe by the time the streetlights come on-like when we were little.
Jenny does that online shopping with WalMart every week now. She fills out the form online and picks the groceries up on her way home from work on Friday. She loves it! It’s perfect for her as a working Mom. I can’t do it because they don’t offer the service at our WalMart in town but she goes right by this other Walmart on her way home from work anyway so it is not out of her way at all.
Did you ever make that eclair desert that was so popular years ago. It had graham crackers, pudding and chocolate frosting.

      Hi Colleen,
I have missed the kids. I’m sure they will have great stories to tell. Heck, Piper probably captained the ship! lol They are on their way home now.
I drove a scooter when we went to Disney. I tried to walk the first day but Greg thought I was going to collapse so he talked me into renting a scooter and it was so much better.
It’s good to know your kids are enjoying Tennessee so much. Are they still on a base there?

So glad that Gary is doing better. Why is he getting a new kidney doctor? Did the old one retire?
Yes, Jenny said that four of them were on Dramamine-I was guessing it was the adults and the teenagers. They’re on their way home now-somewhere in Georgia.
The cake looked so pretty on that plate. That was a good purchase.

      Hi Ladies,
So, I hope everyone is doing well. It’s sunny & hot today, but the rain returns tomorrow. I guess this is a last blast of summer. I hear there are several storm systems out in the Pacific just waiting to come in. We can use it tho. I haven’t heard much about the fire, so I guess that’s good news, it hasn’t spread anymore. No more smoky skies either. I doubt it’s out tho.
I was surprised to hear Debbie got the boot from DWTS this week. I thought for sure the football player would go. His attitude was enough for me. They had 2 football players win the mirror ball yrs ago. Jerry Rice, & for the life of me I can’t remember the other one. I called him Mr. Personality. And this dude is complaining & whining??!!! Seriously??!!
I’m waiting for the cooler weather, so I can bake, too Adele. I wanna make something in my new pressure cooker/slow cooker, & bake an apple cobbler or pie. I wanna try a roast in the cooker.
Well, I guess that’s all from out here.
Take care & have a great weekend.

      Hi DD,
Glad that the smoke has stayed away now. It will be so nice when the fires are out and you do not have to worry about them any longer. Did you get to go and see the damage from the fires? That is just so sad.
Sounds like a lot of us feel that way about the foot ball player. Maybe they will send him home next week. I hope that they do not keep him and send one of the good dancers home. That is really when it gets aggravating. It is hard enough to vote someone off when all the bad ones are gone.
Thank you for the pictures that you sent. They are always so nice to see. They are cheerful and help when you are in a bad mood or a blah mood. I like miss sassy pants she is cute.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Gail,
They do not have a base where the kids are living now. It seems to be working out really nice though. They rented a really nice home and they all like it. The man they are renting from is a soldier retired. So it was nice that he rented it to them he was trying to sell it. It is in a good school district so that is nice.
That is funny about Piper. She is such a funny child. I think that Aliza is going to be a lot like her. She likes to jabber and she likes the attention. It will be interesting to see if she is a good story teller or if she get shy when she gets older. You never know about kids.
That is good that you rode a scooter around Disney. I use them in the stores now. Use to I would not do that but now I don’t care if it makes me look old it is just fun to be able to shop all that I want. I have run into a lot of shelves and knocked things over but nobody seems to notice. I guess that a lot of people do that when they first start using them.
Do you have any plans for the week-end? We do not have anything we are going to do. Wish that had something exciting to do but so far have not found anything. Ron bought me a hoover round the other day at a yard sale. I do not get to ride it though cannot get Ron off of it. So I guess that he is enjoying the gift that he got me.lol
Well that is all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi Adele,
I bet that was a relief when the tests came back okay. Hope that he will continue to drink the water and take the pills. Men can be stubborn sometimes. It is all men too.
The only trouble with working in a nursing home is you get burned out. The place where I worked would not hire temps and if someone did not show up for a shift then one of us had to stay over and work a double. There were only a couple of us they would call all the time. That is how my back got hurt. Another girl that I worked with had the same problem and she is going to a back doctor also.
It is cooler here now. It is so nice to have the cool weather and not the hot humid weather. The air conditioner went out on our jeep again so are hoping that the weather will stay like this for the rest of the year. At least the heat works. We do not need it right now but it works.
The house did smell good all last night. Made us hungry for Italian food today. So that is what we had. We went to an Italian restaurant with my mom today. They had the best food. Love it when we find a good restaurant.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

So glad Gary’s tests came out so good. Just keep encouraging him to drink his water. Your kidneys help to filter all the poisons that our bodies discard; and just like a drain pipe; more water flushes them out even better. I can so relate; I have not been a good water drinker most of my life; but I try so hard to do good. Sarah is a really good water drinker. She rarely ever drinks anything (with the exception of wine) but her water. Little Colin drinks his water through a straw so good; and she didn’t tell us that the day we were able to keep him. I felt so bad when she got here and gave him a big drink of water. We had given him his bottles and some juice. Neal skyped us yesterday and he and the baby were in their bed; and that little fellow was really showing off for me and Jerry. He would pat his little head when we would ask him to show us his pretty haircut; and say “uh oh” and “da da” and throw us kisses and wave to us. Of course; we think he is as smart as a rocket scientist LOL I can’t wait to hear some of Pipers stories of her trip. I bet she was sitting in the captain chair too. Did little Aliza ride with you on your scooter Colleen? She could probably drive it for you ha ha I think I will start to use the scooter at Walmart too. It just wears me out to do that whole store. I really think that they should have benches every few isles for people to just sit and rest in those big stores. I know it would help me if I could just sit and rest for a while; if they just had someplace for me to do that.
We are cooler here today too. Our puppy dogs are just laying on their backs with their legs up in the air enjoying this beautiful Fall day. DD, I love your pictures. Gail, I think you said at one time that you own a Thomas Kincaid picture. What is the theme of it? Jerry went to buy one for me several years ago; and I loved it; but we had two appliances go out at one time; and it just seemed that life was saying, better wait a bit before you get this; so I thanked him, and now I really wish we had gone on and bought it. We were at a gallery out of town; and I knew we had to add the cost of our vacation and didn’t want to make a “gosh, I’m having a great time” purchase. It was of a lighthouse; the sea was pounding the shore, but the lights were guiding people to safety, and I’ve always remembered it. Jerry actually liked another that had a beautiful old home; with a gate and lots of flowers and trees. It was beautiful too.
Do any of you all use the my pillow? I have been considering trying them; because we are both having some problems with our pillows going flat; and I have had to use two pillows; and it makes my neck stiff some nights.
Jerry told Joey that he is going to grill out I think on Sunday. He plans to do some ribs. Joey is supposed to cut all the lower 10 acres; and he will be tired and hungry afterwards. Lisa said she will do some coleslaw and I plan to make potato salad. He left us a note the other morning when he came by to pick up his roast beef about how grateful he was for the meal. I just put his meal in those containers with lids and we just wash them out and use them over and over. He and Jerry are doing better. I don’t know what in the world was making Jerry so fussy for a while; but glad whatever it was seems to have passed.
Yes Gail, I have done that eclair cake with the graham crackers, but for the life of me I don’t know what I did with that recipe. As I remember; it was good. I remember it was easy to make and the boys really liked it. Didn’t you just use pudding for the filling?
Better close for now. Hope you all are doing well, and have a good weekend. We only have those dinner plans for Sunday; but I think we will try for another stroll later this evening. The weather is just too beautiful to miss. Take care to all, Barbara

Well I went to the eye doctor today. I tried a new one and I got a good exam. I am just waiting for the drops to wear off. He put drops in and checked for glucoma, then he put in more drops and I had to wait 15 minutes and he checked for macular degeneration, he also checked for cataracts. Everything was good I have none of those things. My eyes have changed quite a bit so am getting new glasses. I was pleased it seems my insurance will pay for the exam, the frames (I chose from their line) and I just have a co pay on the rest. So it looks like insurance will pay about half. I was very surprised as I did not think they would pay for much except the exam. I am happy as you pay so much for insurance it is good it pays something.

I am going to go down to the Youth park tomorrow. They are giving away bags of potatoes. Anyone can get one. One of the churches is doing it. Just drive in one gate they will hand you a bag and you drive out the other. It starts at 9AM & goes until noon unless they run out sooner. I don’t remember them doing this before but I think it is nice. I hope they take some to the areas hit by the hurricanes. I am sure those people could use some.

      Hi Barbara,
Colin is very smart. It is not your fault that you did not give Colin water Sarah should have told you that he is drinking water now. They do not always want babies to drink water until a certain age now so you have no way of knowing when they are at that age. She is a strange person. Colin sounds so cute. I imagine that you were having a good time watching him. Skype is on of the best things that have ever come up with. It sure helps to see the grands when they move so far away.
I do not know if Ron will let me take her for a ride. He will probably be the one to do it. She would love to be the one in charge of guiding the thing. She could have a good time but would never want to get off of it. I hope that you start to use the scooter at Wal-Mart. It would make it so much easier and you can see all that you want to look at without tiring out. I was glad to start using the scooters and just about all the stores that are very big have them.
We use My Pillow and both really like it. So far it has not gone flat. It really helps to get a good night sleep. I think that you would like them. They can be washed in the washing machine also. We have not tried that yet but will soon. Ron has tried just about every type of pillow that you can try and this is the only one that he really likes.
That is so nice that you put out a meal for Joey. He must be really hungry when he gets off work. How nice that he is going to mow the 10acres. You will not have to worry about Jerry getting on the lawn mower and doing it himself. The cook out sounds really good. The slaw and potato salad sounds good also. What time will things be ready I will be over. lol
I have one Thomas Kinkade print it is of a house at Christmas time. We got it off of qvc a long time ago. I think that it is just a print and not the actual painting. It is so pretty though. I bet sometimes you wish that you had gotten it. It is hard to decide what to do when you are on vacation. We always watch what we buy on trips do not want to spend too much. Guess we should not be like that we miss out on a lot of really nice things. Mine was a clock. It was beautiful and still wish that we would have bought it.
Well that is all from here have a great night

      Hey Gail
Gary’s nephrologist (not sure of spelling), which is different from his urologist- we love her. He was awful. Did not seem to care at all about him. I know 2 people (of which Gary is one) who had him, and both left his practice. He is not spoken of highly with other doctors, or at the local hospital, per someone who works at the hospital. So, I do not think he will be around long. Just my opinion. If everyone knows he is not a good doctor, he should be dismissed, one would think.
By now, Jenny and the family are back home, all safe and sound, and probably tired. I bet you hugged the stuffing out of the kids when you saw them.
It is cool here, and was raining so hard a couple of cities had flooded streets. Very gloomy now, and very cool. Perfect weather for one of my Halloween outfits. Going out to dinner tonight with Al, Winnie and Joanne. we are celebrating Gary and Al’s birthdays. better late than never….LOL

I am so sorry you hurt your back like that. It is so common for people in health care to ruin their backs, due to all the moving and lifting of the people they care for.
So, what did you get at the Italian restaurant? I bet their gravy did not taste as good as yours did.
We are going out tonight, for dinner. It is so gloomy here. It was pouring so hard this am that places got street flooding. I will be wearing one of my sparkly Halloween/Fall tops.
So, have you been able to use the hover aorund yet?

      Hi Barbara
i did that eclair pie too, a long time ago. You are right, you do a couple of layers of graham crackers, vanilla pudding, and then the top layer is graham crackers, and a chocolate frosting. It was good. There are so many neat desserts we make, it is hard to pick one to make for the weekend, or week.
i bet the two of you laugh and cry when you watch little Colin in Skype. Did you say they were coming up for the holidays- can’t remember.
i hope you have good weather for you BBQ tomorrow. I am doing the pizza, as I think the boys are coming- not sure yet. I am also doing that new recipe I cut out of the Food network magazine- Apple Pie Bars. Looks good, so we will see.

That is great news about your eyes. Also good the insurance is paying for half of the expenses too. I love good news!
They must have a huge surplus of potatoes in your area. That is great they are giving back to the community. I bet they did send some to the hurricane victims. Everyone has been generous, and that’s nice to see.
I feel so bad for Puerto Rico. They are a poor country, and have little manes to helot themselves. I hoe they get helicopters to get the supplies to the isolated communities. Our governor, and the Mayor of Boston have extended a welcome to any of the Puerto Rican families that need to be relocated. I thought that was a really kind thing for us to do, and I am proud of our governor for doing that. these awful storms have done so much damage.
Did you see Blue Bloods last night?

      Hey Sue
Gary and I were saying the same thing. Honestly, we should all watch the last episode before we see the first one of the new season. I remember the fire at Danny’s house, and then his wife got shot at the hospital, while she was protecting that patient. AT least, I think that is how she died. Do you remember anything different from what I do?
I do not remember if they showed Linda was dead??? Do you?
Hope your weekend is goign well.

Adele, Linda’s death happened off screen. When the phycologist was talking to Danny he mentioned that she was killed in a helicopter crash while transporting a patient to the hospital. They were all safe after the fire at the end of last season.

I am making vegetable soup since the weather is cold. Our high today is only to be 63 but I don’t know if we will get there as there is no sun. Very cloudy. It rained a bit last night & this morning. I could not think of making my roast chicken yet. As I had bought chicken last week for something else & when I brought it home was going to put it on to cook right away and when I opened the package it was spoiled. So it went in the trash & I got my money back but it smelled so bad I can’t think of eating chicken for a while.

The potatoes they handed out were nice. I did not know what to expect. I just hope I can use all of them before they go bad. It is a 10 pound bag. I have it in my unheated back room and there are no windows in that room so they will be in the dark & cool so should last quite a while.

I got my flu shot last week too. They had a flu clinic at my doctors office so you could just go in & get it and be on your way.

      Hi Adele,
I got a Italian salad. It was really good it had artichokes and some other type of vegetable in it forgot what it was called. It had the green and black olives, lettuce, tomato, cheese and some salami. It was really good. It was big enough for two meals and we ordered the small. I cannot imagine what the large would be like. Ron got the lasagna and he really liked it. He said that it was really good also.
You will be dressed better then anyone in the restaurant. Hope that you had a nice night out and had a good meal. Nothing fried in shrimp oil or any type of shell fish.
If you are tired of the rain just send it our way. We need rain so badly here. It is really dry here and that is not good. We need all the rain that we usually get in the fall. We did not have any during the summer. None that amounted to much.
I cannot believe that Linda died on Blue Bloods this time. I thought that she was dying when she got shot on the show year before last. They said that they could not take the bullet out and she would have to live with it or something. Maybe with the helicopter crash she will be able to come back if she decides that she wants to. They can find her alive somewhere. I wonder if she wanted off the show or what happened.
Mom is doing fine. She forgets a few things once in awhile but not bad for a woman that will soon turn 96. She really zips thru the stores and we have to keep moving to keep up with her. She is funny and fun to shop with. She said that they did not sell sugar free jello or pudding. So we looked and we found it for her. They put it on the bottom shelves and make it hard for people that do not bend as well as they use. So she really stocked up on it so she will not have to worry about finding it again for a long long time. lol
Well that is about all from here. Have a good week-end.

      Hey Sue!
put the potatoes in the refrigerator. they will lats for more than months in there. When they have a buy one get one, ours are in there for a long time, and they never get rotten.
Now that you mention it, i remember they said something about a helicopter crash. i though I missed something in the last episode. I thought maybe she was taken to another hospital, and then the crash. I also thought I ell asleep….LOL Gary and I were talking about it, and wondering if she decided not to continue in the series, and they had to write her out. Otherwise, why the weird death??
I can understand why you would feel that way about chicken. It is like when you get the flu, and the last thing you ate comes up- you cannot stand to eat it again. that happened to bobby with butternut squash. After he ate it years ago, he got the flu, and he ahs not been able to touch it since then.
Here is a funny for you. the supermarket had spaghetti squash on sale, and Bobby got some. then, i turn on ITKWD, and he is doing a recipe with spaghetti squash. I had a good chuckle over that one today.
I had to give in, and put the heat on for a second as it was 60 in here this am. I later had to open the window, as I did pizza and the new recipe- Apple Pie Bars. They did not go over very well. Tillie loved them. Bobby is not crazy about apples. Heather and Dave liked them. they were a lot of work, so if everyone was not thrilled, I will stick with my Apple Crisp- a lot simpler recipe. Oh well. I took a pic of them, and will get one on here, if I remember.
We have not had our flu shots yet. I am glad you got yours already.

      Hi Colleen
read my post to Sue for what we think of Linda’s death. It was strange.
Wow- your Mom is 5 years older then Tillie. Tillie keeps saying she has not been feeling good. She said she had heartburn again after dinner. Every time she says that, I think we are near to a heart attack. At 91, I know days are numbered. I keep wondering if she will make the holidays. I think about it a lot, as I try to get myself mentally ready for it, so it is not a shock. Even so, it will still be a shock. She has been saying too long that she just does not feel good- cannot point to anything in particular, just kind of whoozy, and not feeling right. She does not want to go to the ER or her doctor, and tells me….”I am 91, every day cannot be good.” I bet you feel the same way with your Mom. We are going to be orphans one of these days.
I wish I could send the rain your way. that was us last summer- we had a drought. Not now.
The shirt I had on was the new black Halloween tunic, with the pockets in front- french terry. It was a huge hit.
Hope you had a good day.

      Hi Ladies,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Can you believe it’s October already? Adele, those apple pie bars sound delish!! Anything apple pie is good to me. I gotta make one myself. In our local grocery ad this week they have a whole page of everything pumpkin!!! From pie to beer!!! ICK!!! I don’t like beer anyway, but pumpkin?? I don’t think so!!!
Did you see ITKWD today? At the end of his show they were talking about next weekend being their countdown to Christmas starting on Friday. so now it starts wall to wall Christmas from now till then. They had 6 easy pay day today. Sigh. I’m sure they’ll have more as Christmas grows closer.
I’ll have to go back & catch up on your posts.
I went out to Wal Mart last week & it was awful. By the time I was headed home both my legs felt like they weren’t there.. So tomorrow I go to the Dr. & see what he has to say. It feels like my sciatica is getting worse. I’m gonna try to stay on my feet as long as I can.
the rain has returned, sort of. I thought we were gonna get lots of it, but it’s mostly showers, but we’ll take what we get at this point. The Eagle Creek fire still isn’t out, but it isn’t spreading anymore. Its down in steep terrain so it’s hard for them to get to it. They say it’ll be Nov before it’s completely out. as far as I know there are no more homes in it’s path. Now the communities affected by it are trying to recover.
I’m gonna try to send some pics I took of my décor.
Well, that’s about all from out here.

      Hi Adele,
I would talk to Tillie and tell her she just needs to go and see the doctor to be safe. It may be something that he can just give her some medicine to take and she will feel better. I do understand how you feel. We have to talk to my mom all the time and just tell her that she is going to the doctor so get ready. She will usually listen to my brother and do what ever he says. So I always threaten her with calling him. It is amazing how fast she can get dressed. lol
I really like that shirt. I can imagine that you got a lot of compliments. It is hard to believe that it is October already. We have so much that we need to do right now and it will take a long time to get it done. I still have not done my fall cleaning and need to get it done before we close the house up for the winter.
The apple pie bars look delicious. You could just send some this way. lol You always bake such good things and your family are lucky that you do that for them. Aliza is coming Tuesday and staying until Wednesday evening. We are going to make chocolate chip cookies. I will buy the cookie dough roll so it will be easier for her to help me. She is too little to do the mixing and all of that. She would try to eat a raw egg knowing her.
I remember the house fire that they had at Danny’s house but do not remember Linda and the helicopter ride. It was surprising that she stayed on the show as long as she did. It seems like she was trying to get off of the show or they were trying to find away to write her off. It will not be the same without her. She was an important part of the show. Danny was the only one that was still married. It will be interesting to see where they take this story line.
That is funny that Bobby brought home the spaghetti squash and David was cooking it on the show. I look at his recipes once in awhile and they look good but have never tried one of them. Will have to do that one of these days.
We have not had our flu shots yet either. Will have to get mine at Wal Greens because I do not go back to the doctor until November.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.

      Hi DD
I love your pictures and decorations. We both love the temptations pumpkin and harvest lines.
I hope you get good results from your doctor, and an easy fix. it seems these things bother us more when Fall arrives.
i am glad the fires are ending. those were awful.
I am shocked by what happened today in Las Vegas. I do not even knwo what to say.
See you on the Oct page.
      Adele
