Hi everyone! Welcome to the new thread.
DD! Wow, I would imagine tornadoes are unusual in your area. Where do you go for a warning in your building? Is there a basement?
You made me laugh when you said the Donald was going to change the Ten Commandments next. I don’t think you can change an amendment with an executive order-and if you can that rule should be changed. I’m worried about what could happen when those refugees reach the border now that we have troops down there. What happened to “give me your tired-your poor-your huddled masses yearning to be free”
Barbara, your Colin sounds like so much fun. I pray some day they are able to move back closer so that you can see him more often. Did you mention something about them transferring to North Carolina or am I imagining that?
Adele, the pictures of you and Aizen are so cute! I hope the swollen blotchy face went away-I wonder what that was all about? It didn’t show in the picture. Greg was showing me Jenny’s pictures last night as I am not on Facebook. They had quite a group with the cousins and the friends. Somehow Kendall was originally a Greek goddess and she changed to the grim reaper and Piper was originally some Disney princess and she changed to a witch. lol Typical women! lol
That makes you feel so good when the kids don’t want to leave because they are having fun. That one on one time is special. Does JJ have any more plays in the future?
Those ornaments are really pretty. I’ll bet Steph can’t wait to use them.
That sucks that you got a leak in the roof. I hope you can get someone to repair it soon. Before it does too much indoor damage. Did the storms tear off some shingles or something?
Well now begins the countdown to Thanksgiving. I have it easy as Jenny will continue to do it. that’s why it’s my favorite holiday. No presents to buy and no work to do. lol

      Hey Gailster
I am hoping getting ready for Thanksgiving will give me a lift in my mood. You all know how much I love porep and doing the holidays.
I gave the PT and Visiting Nurse a cute Halloween goodie box- with candy and some ghost cookies. They were thrilled. Made me happy.
I feel the same way you do. Me and Nancy will be up late Tuesday, praying and hoping the good people of this country will vote to change things for the better. I am scared for those poor people, walking to what they feel is a safe place. My Dad is rolling in his grave at the use of the military for people escaping from a bad situation. Number 45 is beyond despicable. I can’t even stand the sight of him.
JJ went trick or treating with his new friends from Middle School, which I hear are all girls. Steph said the girls just love him to death. I find that very amusing. Steph said he had a good time. she has not heard when the Drama class at school will begin- they said some time in Oct or Nov….well, it is November.
I got 2 sets of those holiday mugs from temptations- will give some away to customers. I gave Frankie 2 for him and his girlfriend. he was thrilled.
Jenny had a really good time with the kids, and it showed. I love to see the kids having fun.
hope you have a good night.
Just saw a feed of the migrants walking up here- so terribly sad, and pitiful. I pray they will be safe.

There is an ad running here with Trump endorsing a candidate & he uses profanity. I think this is awful for children to hear day & night every couple of minutes. They will think if it is okay for him to use those words why can’t they use them as well.
I was thinking the same thing with the military at the Mexican border any one else could enter from any where else around the Country & we would not be protected.

Let’s face it, Sue, Trump is not very presidential. That is awful about the add. The president is supposed to be someone for children to look up to and he doesn’t seem to care.

      Adele,
Ah, so JJ is a ladies man! How cute is that! What were they for Halloween. Kendall was the grim reaper, Piper was a witch and Lachlan was Iron Man.
Poor Greg has been going crazy with the new phone service as he brought the phones home and we have no signal out here. So he called and they said that we have to be changed from one cell tower that we were on to the AT and T towers but we needed a different sim card for that. So he had to go back to Target where he got my phone and get the sim cards and they said they were out but to ask this one lady in Customer Service as she might know where some were. Well she was on break and so Greg waited for her she came out with the two cards that we needed. Lord knows where they came from since they were supposedly out. I said maybe they are black market cards or something. lol Anyway, now that we are changed to the new towers we have some reception. this has been our new electronics week between the new Dish service, different internet service and different phone service and new phone for me. I really needed it as my phone would barely hold a charge and would turn itself off constantly.
I was sorry when I read on the old thread that Tillie is still not being cooperative. The anti anxiety medicine may really help. I know my MIL took Paxill for many years. Perhaps it would help if you told her you understand that she is afraid of the future and worried about her health but her acting the way that she has been is just being counterproductive. I agree with Sue too-she probably knows exactly which buttons to push with you to make you feel guilty. Once again, if you feel worried going out you can use a service like Home Instead-that way someone would be in the house and even if Tillie would not interact with the person at least someone would be there. You need to get out and destress for your own physical and mental health. Caregiving is draining and you need some time that isn’t devoted to that-you need some me time.

I have not seen the add. I have heard talk of it. It is more than disgraceful. The President is supposed to be a model of behavior, and he is the model of what not to do.
It is gross here today. It is to get worst later…..LOL Hope you have better weather, Sue!

      Hey Gailster
By the way, I love that turkey made out of veggies. People are so creative.
Your tech issues have been crazy this week. I hope it is all fixed, so you can stop getting annoyed with all of it, and just be able to use your devices. We are all prisoners to the internet….LOL
The nurse came today, and Tillie is refusing any med. So, that is a no go too.
I told her she has to come upstairs for dinner. period. Let’s see how this one works out….LOL We all know those lines in the sand seldom work. I am hoping mine will today.
I am going out with Nancy and Gerald on Monday. So looking o forward to it. Gary will be home, so no worry, either.
the roofer never showed, nor called. When I called, I got his cousin, who said he got tied up at a doctor appointment, and that he was just told his cancer is back. I gave my condolences on his illness, and the cousin said he would call back with a date to come by. none received. So, I called and the person on the other line kept saying they didn’t hear me. Called back, and it went to voicemail. Gary just handed me an advertizement fromout local paper. After I google this guy, I will call him.
      And the leak drama continues…..
Hope you are all connected, and cozy!!

      Hi All,
Well I am so aggravted with this computer I am ready to throw it out the front door. Ron said he thought I would really like it by now. Well he was wrong. I try to delete e-mails that I do not want to read and it won,t let me.It is really driving me crazy. I want a desk top back again.

      Hi All,
I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Tillie Adele. It seems like the older our mom,s get the more stubborn they get.
Sounds like everyone’s grands dressed up really cute for Halloween. Aliza dressed up like Masha some cartoon character. I am not sure what kind of slasher Owen was and Kaylee was a belly dancer. She looked really cute in her costume. They found out where the kids go trick or treating and she had a ball. She said she got a lot of candy. A lot better then last year.I bet all of your kids got a lot of candy.
Gail, Have you been getting a lot of rain? It has been raining here for the last three days. We had been needing the rain but not as much as we got. It rained really hard on Halloween and the kids were disappointed.I guess Kaylee was the only one that had nice weather.
I am still trying to get caught up with all the posts. I do not wish anyone to end up with a computer like this. It is possessed.
Well that is all from here. I hope ll of you have a great night.

I doubt that any of you saw the ad I was talking about. It is for Pennsylvania’s governor. I was just using it as an example of what the leader of USA is teaching the children. Man is a poor example for anyone. I did complain to the TV stations but of course they don’t care as they get paid to run the ads.
How was it gross Adele? Are you speaking of the rain? We had rain & dark clouds all day 60 degrees. So what else is new. We have had dark rainy days all summer & fall. I am getting depressed, need sun. I hope we do not get snow as often as we have had rain or I will be done. I cannot sit inside & look at it. I have to go out & shovel & when there is so much no where to go with it. I also worry if I fall I cannot get up so would lay there until I froze to death.

      Hi Colleen
I changed to a laptop years ago. I really like it. But,mine is older, and the new ones have all kinds of cool features we will probably never use.
I hope you can get used to yours. Did you buy a service contract with it? Mine is through Best Buy and I get the “geek squad” service. i call them up, and they help, and sometimes they have to ge into the computer, and do what they need to do. It is really amazing. Us older people need that kind of help….LOL
Hope you are able to figure it out, as we miss your up-dates.

      Hey Colleen
Well, maybe the ghost in your computer left, as Halloween is over…..LOL Seriously, I hope you can figure it out. Do you think it is defective, maybe??
Tillie came up for dinner last night, and I was thrilled thinking we had turned the corner. But, I got an early morning call, while we were still sleeping, form her, crying, and saying she was afraid of everything, and cannot get out of bed.
I talked to her for a while, and she decided to try to go back to sleep. I got up, and showered, and found a puddle in the living room. GAry and I put down garbage bags, so we were ok, as the puddle was contained on the plastic. Have nto heard from the 1st roofer, nor the second one we called yesterday.
Sooooo, I have a headache. I hope to get more houses packed away today. I just am out of energy to do it….LOL I woudl rather do needlepoint….LOL
It is still gloomy here, and we are supposed to get a lot of wind. the rain is done, I hope.
Did you see Blue bloods last night? reminded me a little of Tillie.

      Hey Sue
Oh yes, I was talking about the weather. Now, I have the weather coming inside. The whole floor where we moved a chair and table was all wet while we were watching the news. We wipe dit up, and put down garbage bags. Gary made a kind of “dam thing” ( from the window frame) to have the rain go into the nags on the floor, and it worked. It comes from the ceiling, and hits the window sill and splashes all over. When we got up, all we had to do was wipe up the puddles with good old Bounty paper towels.
Between poor Tillie, who is afraid of everything, and the puddles, I have a headache. It will pass, as it always does. I have to try to keep my sense of humor. ANybody was to go for a swim in the living room?? I now have an indoor pool.
I know what you mean about winter. As we get older, doing anything outside in the snow is very scary. Is there any young boy in the neighborhood, who you could enlist to do the walkway, for a few dollars? I hope so, as that would be a good solution, and you owuld not have to worry. I think you said before there was nobody, but maybe someone moved into the neighborhood over the summer. I hope so, for your sake. A second idea, or actually, a question- isn’t the landlord supposed to take care of the outside for their tenants? Maybe the new one you have cares more about his tenants safety. I hope you can find a solution that works for you, as you do not deserve to worry about snow shovelling. Not fair.
We have been getting the same, gross gloomy weather. We need the sun. Tillie definitely needs the sun.
We love you, Sue!! I wish we lived closer, so we could go to lunch. Even in the rian.

Happy Saturday friends. Gail, that is such a warm invitation you wrote in the opening note for this month. It would be nice to have others join in on our little group. Seems like you, Colleen, and I have been on here a long time. We have surely been thorough so much in our lives. I just love that we now have Adele, DD, our Sue and Christine. Doesn’t it just seem we all have known each other forever? I feel such a kindred spirit with all of you. Thank you for sharing your lives with me.
Sue, I worry too that you will need someone to do all that shoveling this winter. I was thinking like Adele, that it looks like the manager of the complex would have to take care of all that for the safety of his tenants. Please be careful. Could you bring this topic up at your monthly meeting of your building? Do you all do that? I know that Neal said (they live in an apt. complex) that they brought up in their meeting that there were no handrails for the steps and one of the ladies in their building had almost slipped and fallen, and she was pregnant. Luckily her husband was with her and she was holding his arm. He had to put up handrails all over the complex. HOpe you find an easy solution. HOw is Cuddles? He is such a pretty puppy dog.
It sounds like all the little kiddies were having lots of fun for Halloween. Our little fellow was Batman. Neal said the little town they live in shuts all its shops on Mail St. and the shop owners come out with bags of treats for the children. Our Colin would watch for the other little ones to be busy seeing the parade, and then he would sneak their candy out of their containers. ha ha. Neal said he has a few lessons to learn. I know he will really be getting into Christmas this year. He has grown so much this year. Gail, I did say they will be transferring to Ashville N.C. next April. So we have less than six months now until they will be here. I was so in hopes that we would be able to go by train to Ca. to visit, and then could also see our son in Vegas. We went to the train station here and walked all through and Jerry had such a hard time. Our life has changed more than I would ever be able to tell you all. This may be hard to understand, but there are a lot of days that I find myself mad for lack of a better word, and then I remind myself how fortunate we are. It is so strange, those feelings fighting against each other.
Adele, I am so sorry you are having the flooding of your home. It just seems wrong that you are having this now on top of all your worry about Ms. Tillie, and her ups and downs. She is one very lucky lady to have you and your family. Please do get out and enjoy your time with your friends. I wouldn’t care if it was raining, snowing, or wind was blowing, I think it will be good for you to get out. I am sorry she was afraid. You are her rock, and I hope you don’t misunderstand what I say, but she is being a little selfish taking so much of your life to help her. And please believe me, I don’t mean this in a mean way. I so remember how difficult it was to take care of Paw Paw and I loved him so much. But just like Jerrys Mom, when he or she make up their mind they will not do something, nothing will change their mind. It was SO hard for Jerry to place his Mom in the retirement village; but after the few days of us lifting, feeding, changing, etc. Jerry and I could hardly move. Please forgive me if I have mis-spoken; my words come from my heart. I see how hard it has been to adjust to the changes in our lives; and I can only imagine how it will be if God lets us live to be her age. So I will say an extra prayer that things will improve for you all.
It is beautiful here now. The leaves have turned, and the air is crisp.
Joey was sick last week with a stomach virus. He threw up for 3 days on and off. I felt so bad for him; and your little ones who had that sickness. He lost 13 pounds. He could only hold fluids down. He is much better; so I cooked a big meal yesterday evening; and he came up and had dinner with us. He said it tasted so good, and we were glad we had him to ourselves. I know that sounds awful, but it was nice. Lisa works late at the sports clinic on Fri. nights, but we sent her a plate home with Joey. I pray for their happiness. We just don’t see love coming from Lisa, but we pray there is.
Well, enough of the “Days of our lives” soap opera of the family lol. Colleen, your computer must be a cousin on my computer. There is something wrong in their family “chip” ha ha Mine just drives me crazy.
DD, hope Jewell is still doing well. She is so pretty. Ours lays right up against my legs because I keep a heating pad that I bought off the Q right under my knees. THat is one of my achy places. And since it has turned cooler he wants to be on there with me. I keep it on low; so he keeps the outside of my leg warm. His little chubby body is like a heating pad too. I know Jewell is probably like this too.
Take care everyone. Praying for everyone. Hope Brent has received some good health news. Glad I just remembered that the clocks fall back tonight. Not looking forward to it getting dark so early. Barbara

      Hi Adele,
I am getting a little more use to this all the time. It still is not as good as my desk top. I guess it will just take time to get use to this.I lose stuff and have a hard time finding conversations. We did not get a service program but i think that we should. We got our computer from qvc . It was the Dell computer that was tsv on qvc 2.
Poor Tillie being that scared at night. She is so lucky to have you there but you also need to get out. You need to go out with friends and have fun. Just do not forget to take care of yourself.
That is terrible about all the water in your living room. Do you know where it is getting in? That is always a lot of fun. We use to have a leak in our bathroom. If you sat on the throne you got do your business and take a shower.
Have you been doing a lot of Christmas shopping? I still have a lot to do? I know it is getting close. The computer is our present to each other. So we do not have to worry about that. We have the grands to buy for and that is harder and harder to do the older they get.
Well that is all from here have a good night

      Hi Barbara!
No, you didn’t mis speak. Actually, a lot of people are saying the same thing to me. And, you are all correct. I have to get out of here, or I will lose my mind. I need a break.
I do have some good news. Tillie came up for dinner Fri, Sat and today. Today, Heather came by, gave her a shower, and helped change her sheets too. (I have enough trouble doing our king size bed). I am praying we have finally turned the corner. Bobby made chicken cutlets, and Heather stayed for dinner.
I was busy putting all the Halloween away, and doing more purging as I went along. I am getting rid of quite a few of the Dept 56 items I have. I decided if I did nto totally love the piece, out it goes. I need to make decorating more simple. I do love Halloween, and will keep doing a village n the table, but a slightly smaller one. I am arting with a few of the houses that only light up, and some of the accessories that I can live without. Also purged some Annalee dolls, and 2 Christmas boxes too…..LOL I was very busy, and I am so tired I will be asleep by the time Madam Secretary comes on.
I am so disgusted with the leak- it is a cathedral ceiling in there. The leak is below the skylight- cold be from it. Nobody has called back who can do it. One person who advertises as “the one the roofing companies call when they can’t find the leak”, did call back. he said he will nto climb a ladder to a second story roof. Seriously?? We will call a few numbers tomorrow too. I am praying the man referred by my neighbor will call tomorrow, and be able to do the job.
I totally get it that you enjoyed your time with your son, while he was sick. I bet you made him soup, tea, etc. I bet he was gld to have his mom care for him too. Even so,you snet food home for Lisa too! You are a good woman, my dear. Your family is lucky they have you too.
I am also thrilled with my Quacker friends. Every night, I say a prayer for all my Quackers, and their families.
Well, the eyes are tired, so I better get into my chair.
Hope you have a good night…..I am goign out tomorrow….yahoo!!!!!!

      Hi Colleen
I am just about done with Christmas shopping. All I have to get is gift certificates. So lucky! you should see my back room- all boxes from the Q…..LOL
Read the post to Barbara for all the news of the day, please.
We think the leak could be from the sky light. We took off the window valance I made, moved the furniture, and put down big green garbage bags to catch any water. As nobody is calling back to do the job, I am getting nervous, as winter is upon us. i don’t want to live like this all winter, and the water coming in will do a lot of damage.
Had a decent weekend, as Tillie actually came up for dinner 3 times. I cannot tell you how happy that made me! she took a shower too- Heather helped her. She stayed for dinner too- bobby did his famous chicken cutlets.
Hope you are getting better and better at your new laptop.
Have a good night!! Did you see Blue Bloods? reminded me of Tillie.

      Hi Everyone,
Sue I wondered the same thing as everyone else about the snow removal. We own a small four apartment building and Greg has to go over and shovel and plow their parking lot. It’s always been the landlords responsibility. Sometimes the tenants (who are all much younger than us) have already shoveled the walkways which is nice.
Colleen, my new laptop is a Dell too. We got it from Best Buy. One of the problems that you may be having is learning a new operating system. It’s always different every time you update to a new computer. I am having the same issue with my new phone-even though it’s still a Samsung things are in different places on the new phone and I haven’t really figured it out yet. I don’t think we are having as much rain as you. Although we are expecting some later today and tomorrow and we had some Saturday and Sunday. fortunately it was nice for the kids on Halloween. When we were there Friday they all had their candies dumped on the floor and were trading. lol Piper did give me a Baby Ruth as she knows that is my favorite. The other kids didn’t offer us anything. lol
Barbara, you made me laugh out loud when you said Colin was taking candy from the other kid’s buckets when they were watching the parade. He’s got it all figured out. lol I understand totally what you are talking about when you talk about sometimes feeling mad about your and Jerry’s physical limitations. I think that’s a very normal reaction to wanting to do what we no longer can. It’s hard to accept and we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t feel bad about that. Glad Joey is feeling better and that you got some “me” time with him.
Adele, I hope you had a great stress relieving time with your friends today. You are doing great with your shopping. I just haven’t thought about it much yet. I hope Tillie will be doing better. And I hope you find someone to fix that leak. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was around the skylight. Can’t believe a guy who does roofs won’t go on the second floor. What kind of a roofer is that? Thank you to the Patriots for beating Green Bay-our most disliked team-even though living here so close to Wisconsin the fans are split between The Bears and Green Bay.
Wish me luck I have my first leg procedure tomorrow morning. Greg wants to get a new car for driving to work as the one he has now is getting old and has lots of miles. He had about four different ones in mind so we went out to look on Saturday. After we were done doing that-we didn’t find anything to buy yet-we went to the movies to see Bohemian Rhapsody. After we went out for a pizza over in Rockford. Boy I was tired when we got home that night. And I know there will be more car shopping days to come until he finds the one he wants.

No ladies snow removal is not done here & was not at my former apartment. It was in the lease when I moved here that I am responsible for snow removal & if there was grass I would need to cut it but it is with the downstairs place. I do have to get all the weeds along the walk & that is starting to be a problem too. My neighbor across the street helps everyone shovel. He gets around my car where the plow plows it in as it is so packed & heavy it is to much for me & he does by our mailboxes. I clean off the car & shovel what I knocked off & shovel the walk to my door. I am in a rural area & that probably is different than in town. I don’t see the new landlord doing any of it because he does not live in Belleville, he lives in Huntingdon.
Raining here again today. Dark & dreary. Its to rain tomorrow too.

      Hey Gailster
We ended up pushing the outing to next week, and that was fine, as I was exhausted from putting all the Halloween away. Plus, nancy was confused- she thought it was next Monday….LOL
I realized at some point yesterday that it was 2 weeks to Thanksgiving, and I freaked out. I immediately made my list of desserts, and sides, so I will not forget anything on food shopping day.
Tillie was doing better, and now she is back to not doing better. I just can’t figure it out. She does better when she comes up for dinner, and last night she refused, and ate a sandwich downstairs. So, tonight I am going to insist she come up, and see how that goes.
Well it is pouring out right now, and I hear….plop….plop. I could scream. Gary went to do an errand yesterday, and saw a contractor’s truck in the parking lot. he flagged them down, and they are coming to look at the leak tomorrow. I have one other person who we are ” on the list” to do a diagnostic visit….for the price of 75.00. they are out at least a week, and said it is due to all the storms we have had up here, and all the damage people have. If we go with them the 75.00 comes off the repair. I just want this done.
I hope greg finds the car he is looking for. Sounds like you two had a very nice date- go Gailster!!!
I hope your leg appointment went well today. Saying a prayer for you!!

      Hi Sue
That is awful. Honestly, I have never heard of any tenant being responsible for snow removal. Wow, is all I can say. It must be because you are in a rural area. I am sorry you have to deal with all that.
It is pouring up here right no, and has been gloomy all day. So depressing when it is always dark and dreary. We are having an awful Fall season.
Hope you are having a nice cup of hot chocolate!

Gail how did it go with your leg? I don’t know if that would help my legs or not. Doctor did not mention it. I did order a pair of the support hose with the zipper as he wants me to wear those & I just cannot get them on without a struggle. So I will let you know how these work.
Just wanted to tell you ladies I went by your recommendations & am trying the St Clair sides for Thanksgiving & Christmas. I placed an advance order & they arrived today. Four different ones, Corn soufflé, stuffing, mac & cheese & hash browns. So I hope they are good. I will still have leftovers but hopefully not to much that go to waste. Do any of you know can they be refrozen after baked?

      Adele,
I hope with the holidays coming that Tillie will come upstairs more. Yes, Thanksgiving is two weeks from tomorrow. I am so grateful that I am not doing anything as this leg stuff really has be baffled. The surgery was not bad. I have the one on my left leg tomorrow. It’s trying to wear these support stockings that is the issue.
Sue, read this story as it may give you some ideas.
So yesterday my leg was wrapped in an elastic bandage from mid thigh to maybe six inches above my ankle. Well as the day goes on the top of the bandage starts to curl and kind of fall down so i am constantly pulling it up. So this morning I have a hair appointment so I shower-take the bandage off and after get Greg to help me put on the stocking which is a thigh high. So I had bought this stocking donner for compression hose from Amazon and also these rubber glove things which give you better traction pulling them up. So I get the hose on the donner , I give Greg the gloves to help me and it worked pretty well. We got it on with trouble but it wasn’t impossible and I even got the thigh highs up and they stayed-I’m thinking this is too good to be true. So he leaves for work and I go to my computer. I get up from the computer to go upstairs and get dressed and the stockings roll down my thighs to my knees. Well I for the life of me can’t get them back up and I don’t want to miss my appointment. So I finally cut the top of the hose and kind of get them back up and put a pair of those breezies long line panties over them to try to hold them up. I wish I still had some spanx as they probably would have worked better as they are tighter. So I got my pants on even though if you looked at me closely there was huge lumps under the pants. I did get my hair done and then went over to the drug store and got some adhesive tape to see if I could wrap it around the top of the stocking to help hold it up. So I have kind of decided that I’m not going much of anywhere the next couple of weeks and will just stay home in long nightgowns-pants are hard and I look all lumpy underneath them. The nurse did say that I can try wrapping in an ace bandage so I think we will try that tomorrow and see if that is any better. I imagine when I have an ace bandage on both my legs from ankle to thigh I will look like the Michelin man. I can’t wait until Thanksgiving as that will be my last day of wearing this stuff. Plus being chubby it just makes it that much harder to pull this stuff on. There are places that I just can’t reach on my own. The donner works pretty well if only the stockings would have stayed up. Sue I still think it would be hard to zip up the stockings with out getting your skin stuck in them. I mean they are even hard for Greg to pull. However, the surgery might be of help to you as it sounds like we have the same issue. The valves in the veins no longer shut properly and it allows blood to flow backward and pool in lower legs and ankles and feet. I’m hoping that this will allow me to travel in the future without getting swollen feet and ankles.
Anyway, wish me luck tomorrow. Greg is going to drive me again and then I have to go back Friday for an ultrasound.

      Hi All,
I wrote on here yesterday and it all disappeared.I am having a hard time figuring it out but am doing better every day. It will be nice when I can get on here and do what I want to do.
Gail, I hope things are going well with your leg. It is a shame that you are having trouble with your phone. Why can’t they let things well enough alone They just this to confuse the old people. lol I finally figured out my phone and ill not change again. It takes too long to figure things out.
Adele it is horrible that your roof is leaking and no one will come and fix it. I hope the man that Gary found come out and do something for you. It is interesting that these guys do not want to work. I am glad that Tillie came up for meals. She is acting more like herself.I hope she continues to do well.It is hard to get rid of decorations. You will miss next when you get ready to decorate. That is what happened when I got rid of some of mine. I miss them and can remember each one I got rid of.
Sue I am with everyone else. I have never heard of renting and they do not take care of snow removal. That is a shame that they do not take care of their renters.
Well we are supposed to have snow this week. I cannot wait for it to come. It is always so pretty when it first comes down. It is not supposed to be that much but some is better then none.
Well that is all from here.I hope you all have a great night.

      Hi Ladies,
this will be short as I’m dead tired. I just wanted to let ya know I’m alive. I haven’t seen any of your posts the past few days. I had to sign back in so maybe that’s why.
I’m soooooooooooooo glad the elections are over FINALLY!!!! My mailbox was overflowing with ads for vote for this, don’t vote for this, on & on. Out here we have vote by mail. They send us the ballot, & we mail it back. They enclose an envelope within the envelope so it can’t be seen.
Sue, where I live we’re not allowed to shovel snow due to liability. If you owned your home that’s different. If you get hurt they can be sued for liability. It’s the landlord’s responsibility to take care of the grounds around the apartment not yours. I’d check that out with a lawyer or legal aid.
      I’ll write more tomorrow.
      Good night.

      Hi Sue
The sides are very good. I know you will like them. I think you can keep them in the fridge, for up to 5 to 7 days, after you heat them once. Bobby was a chef, and is very up on safe food prep. He is adamant that you cannot reheat food more than once. So after you cook it, and store the leftovers, only reheat what you will eat, or the rest will have to be thrown away.
Are you not thrilled beyond belief that the sun is shining for us? I had to put sunglasses on in the house…..LOL (just kidding)

      OMG GAil!
Besides the issue of your being uncomfortable, and having had surgery, it was one of the funniest stories you have ever told. I would have had the exact same thing happen to me, as my legs are quite chubby. I don’t think there is any solution to get them to stay up, as they will just roll down our chubby bits. You are right to just stay put, in a nightie, in your recliner to get the legs up, for the next 2 weeks. there is no better solution. One woudl think they would have come up with stockings that woudl nto roll down with chubby legs.
the only difference here would be, me and Gary would be yelling at each other to get them on, as neither of us have strong hands or fingers. I honestly feel we would never have been able to do it. Bobby is the only one here, who would have been able to get them up, and THAT wold not have happened….LOL LOL
All that being said….how are you feeling? Are the legs sore? I hope you are not having too much discomfort, especially since those dam stocking won’t stay up. I hope this will solve all your leg problems, as that would make it all worthwhile.
Hope this finds you feeling better, and that Greg is tkaing good care of you! (I know he would)

      Hi Colleen
I am so sorry you are still having all the computer issues.
How is Mandy doing, now that she is on her own again? I bet you miss all of them.
So……the guy Gary found was coming yesterday, 2 to 4. He calls at 3, and says he is stuck in dead stopped traffic, but will call to let us know. No call. Gary calls him at 5- no answer, and no answer this am either.
Roofer #3, the one you have to pay 75.00 to LOOK at the roof, is expected today at 1:00. if we go with this one, the 75.00 comes off the bill. I am betting he is so out of control on hsi prices, that we will say no. Why else would you have a 75.00 fee for NOT taking him? To me, that says he goes to look at a job, and people do not end up hiring him. We will see.
Tomorrow, into Saturday, we are getting another rainstorm, with lots of wind, over a 12 hour period. not looking forward to that.
I get a call from Tillie every morning, crying she can’t get out of bed, and is too sick to get up. Every morning, no fail. I them try to calm her down, and tell her to go back to sleep, and so far, that works. Then, I take no prisoners, and say she HAS to come up for dinner. So far, that has worked too. I am so stressed, you have no idea. She cries about everything, and is refusing the nurse’s request to take a mild antidepressant.
It is what it is, as they say. I guess this will my new sense of normal. I don’t feel like washing the crystal glasses for Thanksgiving.
Hope your computer is ok today!

Not thrilled with what we saw on TV yesterday with #45. Wow, is all I can say. they will handle it, I am sure, and get us back on track.
Just awful about the shooting in California. When will this all stop? good Lord. All we seem to do is pray for victims of shootings lately, and they are happening about every 2 weeks.
      God help us all!

      Hi Ladies,
I’m back, I’m on my older computer tonight. The new one is acting up. I can’t get it to turn on or off. I get a blank screen when it”s on but nothing else comes up on the screen. It’s weird; I’ve never had this much trouble with this older one.
Adele, I didn’t mean to make you cry when I sent that video today. I haven’t seen that ad since it aired, & I thought you’d get a kick out of seeing it again.
I don’t know about what’s going on out there, but people are downtown protesting the new AG appointment. #45’s presser was horrible!!! I don’t think that reporter did anything wrong. Did you? He’s trying to deflect from answering the questions he should be answering. And I am glad so many women won!!!

I’ve gone to a couple ball games this week. They were exciting cuz the Blazers won. They host the Celtics this Sunday.
I wish we could get some of that rain out here. We’re dry as a bone with no rain in sight. Fires have started up again down south.

      Hi Adele,
Well here’s an up date. I got the second leg done yesterday. They did the same thing as they did to the other one plus more as he also gave me an injection of this stuff that makes the smaller veins stick together. The same doctor was supposed to do both legs but it just so happened that the first doctor had a day off yesterday so the doctor that I had the consultation with did the second leg. Personally, I liked the first doctor better as he kept up a constant chatter which kind of keeps your mind off what they are doing to you. The second leg was more sore for some reason-it could be a combination of the different doctor, the extra procedure and this time they started right at the ankle with the catheter that goes up to your groin-the first one was about six inches above the ankle. I didn’t take anything for pain the first day-although I did take a nap-yesterday I had to take some ibuprofan and I took a nap. Of course the second is on my left leg which has a tendency to be sore anyway with those torn and stretched tendons in the ankle. That’s the one that I have the brace for.
So I show the nurse yesterday the thigh high with the cut in the top and it flapping around my leg and ask her if I could try wearing a knee high and wrapping the upper leg with an ace bandage. She said we can try and if worse comes to worse as long as I wear the knee highs that might be the best that I can do. So yesterday she took the thigh high off and put on the knee high-but I asked her to wrap my other leg for the day rather than put on the stocking as that was feeling sore. So this morning Greg takes off the stocking and unwraps my left leg so that I can shower. Needless to say I draw out the whole procedure so that I have a little time without the stockings. Plus my skin needed a change to get back to normal around my knee and ankle where the socks just cut into them. So then I go downstairs and tell Greg I’m ready. so we start with the right leg first and this is just the knee high now. I had even bought a heavy duty stocking donner and these rubber type gloves for him to wear. So he’s down on the floor and he’s trying and trying and cursing and getting all pissed-so that makes me feel bad so I start crying hysterically for ten minutes. And he’s going are you sure this is the same size sock that the girl put on yesterday-and I say yes-I got four of them all the same size and she used one yesterday and this is a new one. So I say I was laying on a bed maybe if we go upstairs to the bed and I lay down and you stand up you can put your whole body into it. So we finally get the first one on. Then we try the second one with the stocking donner and him holding it on there while I stick my foot in. I was really afraid for this one as the leg was still sore-but with much less moaning and groaning we finally got it on. It is rolled a bit at the top so my skin underneath will be all sore but I can deal with it. So we come downstairs and I go wow my hair is even all messed up after all that-and he said yeah and with all the moaning and groaning some one might actually think we were having fun up there. lol lol So then I go do you really think we ought to even try wrapping the thighs in ace bandages? At that point we decided not even to try as we are pretty sure that they will roll down and we don’t want this whole leg vein thing to cause us to get a divorce. The nurse said if it didn’t work the lower legs were the most important to compress so we are just going to skip this. We just can’t take all the aggravation. lol I hope this story made you laugh and lightened your day a bit. I wish we lived closer maybe I could come over and help with Tillie. You kind of need someone who isn’t a family member to take charge and be like a general and kind of make her do some of the things that she doesn’t want to. I wish there was a way to get her to take the anti anxiety med-I’ll bet that would help a lot. In the meantime-try not to over stress about Thanksgiving-if you have to buy some things rather than make them so be it-no one will care as long as you can be together. It’s the people-not the meal. If it’s different from other years that’s okay-it’s a new tradition. I know you love to make everything all pretty with your dishes and glassware-but maybe this year use plastic plates, utensils and red solo cups-it’s a new tradition! Believe me I’ll bet the younger ones won’t care.
Ooooops! In all the excitement of telling you of the adventures of Gail and Greg and the compression stockings I forgot to tell you that we woke up to snow this morning! Maybe an inch.

      Sue,
You will like the sides. I had gotten the combo the same as yours except with a sweet potato casserole instead of the stuffing. I had gotten the stuffing before but it is more the southern style corn bread stuffing and we like the other kind-so that was the only dish i wasn’t that crazy about. Kim being from the south used to make the corn bread stuffing and most of us preferred the other kind so she would have a lot of leftovers of that which she didn’t mind. The kids love the mac and cheese-we don’t eat it but I save it for when they are here.

      Blue Bloods tonight- yahoo!!!!!
No, it’s nto too early to put up the Christmas decor. I splurged ( on one of my bad days) and got this 30 inch Annalee doll Angel. I never saw her before- she was on Ebay. I think I will leave her up all year long. We all need Angels.
Well, I totally agree with you. the reporter did nothing wrong. He was asking questions, which they are supposed to do. # 45 only likes Fox reporters, who do not accurately report the news. That Shawn Hannity is a piece of work. I wonder how low their ratings are lately. Nobody ever says anything about that. #45 was quite out of control, and so was his aide, who I thought looked ridiculous. Can’t wait until Saturday Night live is on- I will bet they will do a hysterical segment on that, for sure.
No worries- I LOVE that commercial. Also love the song- it is a good crying commercial. When ti came out, I was newly retired, and it has always reminded me of our kids in foster care. That’s why I cried so much when I first saw it. It is a beautiful commercial. Actually, I love all the ones they do with the Clydesdales.
I am glad you had a good time at the ball games. Go DD!!!!!

      OMG, Gailster!!
First, i am so sorry your leg hurts you!
Well, I laughed so hard, I had to read it over and out loud to Gary,m as I told him about your adventures yesterday with the dam socks. We were hysterical, especially at the thought of your hair all askew, and God knows what the neighbors now think….LOL LOL
Gary said to tell you he put his stockings on as soon as his feet touched the floor in the morning. He showers at night. If he showered in the am, and then tried to get them on, he would never have been able to do it. So, maybe you can try that, and it wouldn’t be as bad to get them on. I think it will be a very long 2 weeks with those dam socks!
If we lived closer, all 4 of us could try to get them on you….LOL LOL
Well, Miss Tillie seems to have turned a corner. Yesterday, I told her she has to “knock it off”, as every person coming to this house thinks she needs a psychiatrist. So, today, there was no am crying that she is afraid to get out of bed, and she told her pT person she is feeling better. She came up for dinner- we just had burgers and fries from the local take out. plus, my friend Joanne (Winnie’s sister) sent me an Edible arrangement- apple slices, dipped in chocolate with caramel inside- they were yummy. So, when I called Joanne to ask what I did to deserve such a mice goodie, she says she knew I had a tough week, and just wanted to send me something nice. How nice was that??? Made my day.
heather stopped by too, as well as every delivery person in Massachusetts. Three from the Q, the Red Sox hats, etc for the boys, and one from Kohls. It was real funny. I got 3 of the pie takers from Lock n Lock, and the Deweys cookies that taste like donuts. Jury out on them, as Gary did not think they were good at all. Oh well.
It just started to rain. We are hoping the leak is completely fixed- with the rain scheduled we should know before we go to sleep. i did nto remove the plastic to make sure no leaks remain.
Tonight, JJ goes to his first school dance. Heather was so excited to take him, with Steph, as Jhonny will not be home in time. I can’t wait to hear how he liked the dance. imagine- his first grown up school dance. Wow, is all I can say!
Love ya, my poor broken Gailster. I hope you will feel a little better every day.

What do you mean the rain is just starting. It has been raining here all day long. No breaks at all so I did not walk down to check the mail as I figured if nothing was there I would be mad I got wet for nothing. At least it was not snow but parts of PA did have snow & the weatherman says its coming. It is to be very cold & windy tomorrow. They say our winter is to be a roller coaster with Nor”easters & lots of snow. I hate it. I had a miserable night last night with the rain & cold coming. Every part of my body hurt & I was still awake at 2 AM.

      Hi Gail,
The story about the support stockings was funny. I can see you and Greg trying to get them on. It would have been the same with me and Ron. I would be in tears and he would be upset. He would be cursing about them not going on easy. It is crazy trying that they are so hard to put on. I am glad that the procedure is over on both legs and you will not have to go thru it again.
Did you get to see Brent? How is he doing? I hope you had a fun time together. I had not read about your time with Brent. I hope you have a good time and it did not get cancelled.
Mandy is doing fine and she really likes having her own place. Brook finally is making friends with the kids at her new school. I was so glad to hear that. Today is her birthday and she turned 17. I cannot believe she is that old. These kids need to stop growing it is happening too fast.
How are your grands doing? I have not heard much about them. Have they made their Christmas lists yet? Aliza wants everything. So she will not be hard to buy for. She wants lipstick which I thought was funny. She likes to put make up on with her mom.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Adele,
I cannot believe that you are going on your third roofer. You would think that they would want the work. I do not understand why people do not want to work. That is so strange. They do not have the work ethics like we use to have anymore.
How cute JJ is going to his first dance. I bet he was excited and had a great time. Did he have a certain girl that he wanted to dance with? It would be nice to be a fly on the wall to see how they all do.
I am so glad that Tillie is finally doing better. You were smart to talk to her and being blunt. she needs to snap out of it and get back to normal. It will be nice for you if she does. You take such good care of her. She is so lucky to have you.
I hope that you do not get all that rain. We got our snow but it did not stick but pretty coming down. It is supposed to snow again on Monday.I hope it will stick that time around. Maybe this year we will get the snow and it will pass you up.
Mandy and the girls are doing fine in their new apartment. Mandy likes being on her own again. She still comes over to have Ron check her car and if she needs any thing. That will never change.
Well that is about all from here have a great night.

Gail you just had to share. I woke up to snow this morning. Not a lot but it is just the start of the ugly stuff. Our rain ended as snow. It was rain all day yesterday & a lot of it. Now we have snow cold & wind too. I wonder if Adele got snow or just rain.
Everyone should report to James or Tiago if the see an inappropriate post. I reported it also. If you don’t they will take over again. I think the problem is everyone just comes here & does not look at the home page. You get Viagra ads everywhere. In comments on or newspaper online & I use to get them in my work e-mail all the time. You need to report them not wait & complain until someone else does it for you.

The good news is nothing leaked. I am thrilled about that- we put the furniture back, and took up all the plastic bags we had down in there.
Funny you say that about sleeping last night. I woke up in the middle of the night with my neck in so much pain, it felt like I broke something. This weather is awful for arthritic issues. I even ended up tkaing an Indomethacin- the prescription med that is a heavy duty aspirin/anti-inflammatory. I hate taking it, as it makes me feel groggy in the morning, but, the pain was real bad.
I heard 2 separate things on this winter- one was milder temps, and one was the report you had. I guess we better stock our pantries!
Hope you feel better- I do, as the sun came out.

      Hi Colleen
I am glad the girls and Mandy are adjusting, and liking thier new place.
Tillie is coming up tonight for dinner too- itis Chinese take out night up here.
The 3rd roofer showed up at 3:30, and fixed the problem (it was dark before he finished….LOL)….575.00. We got an awful storm yesterday, into today, and nothing leaked. I can’t tell you how happy I am about that!
JJ had a good time at the dance. His little girlfriend did not go, because she had a fight with her girlfriend. JJ bought her a ticket, and had a little bouquet of flowers for her. I thought that was so sweet. Heather said when he got out of the car, all the girls were yelling….”JJ is here, JJ is here”, and off he went….LOL
I can’t believe he is so grown up already. It is nice to see him enjoying Middle School. We are all happy about that.
I hope you and Ron are good!

We got one burst of very wet snow, that lasted for a few minutes. We got all rian.
I get those awful emails about all kinds of things, and when I go into them to unsubscribe, a lot of time I get a warning from my virus protection. Then I just delete them.

Happy Saturday ladies, hope everyone is having a good day. Gail, only if it were Jerry and Me could your stocking story be funnier or more frustrating that you two endured with those blessed things. They are definitely a necessary evil. I always believed that whomever created them had a little bit of evil in them; and must only weigh about 100 pounds soaking wet. After Jerrys back surgery; he had to wear them for months; and here’s what we had to do. After many many tries i.e. battles; with the stocking always winning; I finally said to him, Jerry, let me lay the futon out flat; you lie down; and I will straddle you facing your feet and pull up from the bottom up to the top and I will have more strength by pulling that way instead of bending over and trying to pull them up your legs. Of course; that led to much “discussion” but he finally gave in. SO; I made him let me rest after I pushed and pulled to get the futon down. Then with my butt in his face and me bent over straddling him off we go. By the way, he wore shoes much too little for him as a child so his big toes are shaped like this <; so that was very helpful; in case you can’t tell I am being very sarcastic. Anyway, here is big Barb straddled hubby, and actually making progress getting those suckers on and lo and behold, our kitchen door opens and in walks Neal. I think for the briefest of moments he thought his old momma and papa were doing the nasty, and he almost fainted. He gasped; realized what was happening; and said, My God, what are you two doing? and then said mama, get off daddy which led Jerry into laughing instead of the cussing he had been doing, and Neal finished for us. It actually did help us, and the good Lord knew we needed help. So you have nothing to be worried about; those things are a form of torture to us all.
Adele; so glad Ms. Tillie is doing better. I was going to suggest putting the Paxil in some applesauce or something if you thought it would help her. Hope your roof is fixed by now. What a headache for you all.
Colleen, sending good thoughts for your computer. You sound so much like me; I feel for you. Good luck.
DD. love the pictures. I haven’t prepared for anything and don’t know why. I keep thinking something will jump start me; but so far; nothing. And I love the holidays.
Neal is sick. We have really been worried. It is the flu. And now the fires. Keeps us worried all the time.
Sue, please be careful. Mabey the Dept. of Senior Services in your area will help you with this. Hope so.
Better close, Jerry is getting antsy for dinner. This time change is not boding well with us. I think I need to go to bed at seven now.
Take care everyone. Prayers and good wishes for all. Barbara

      Hi Adele,
I am glad that Tillie came up for dinner. It was nice that she ate Chinese with you. It would hard to not eat Chinese that is so good. There is very few things from a Chinese place that I would not eat.
I am happy that you got your leak fixed. It was a quick fix also. Now you will not have to worry about putting out your Christmas decorations. Are you going to put out all your decorations this year? I may just put out my Santas and that may be it. I have not put all of my villages for a long time. I might put out my small one I don’ know.It is hard to decide. I just got my thanks giving things out. All my pilgrims are out and Indians. Those sit out a shorter time then all my other decorations.
I am glad that JJ had fun at his dance. That is sad that his girlfriend did not go to the dance. Does not sound like he had a hard time getting a girl to dance with. That is so cute that all the girls were there waving at him. That is just so cute.
Well that is about all from here have a great night.

Your sock story was so funny.Poor Neal coming in and getting the wrong idea I bet he felt silly when he found out what you were really doing. Kids!
I am sorry to hear that Neaal is sick. It seems when you work in the public you get sick really easy. That makes it really hard.I hope y he feels better soon.I hope that little Colin does not catch it..
There is not a lot going on here. The weather is really cold so do not feel like doing a lot. Hope that your weather is better.Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      OMG, Missy Barbara!!
That was even funnier than Gail’s story. I have tears in my eyes, about Neal walking in to that show. If it were my Daughter, Heather, she would have vomited before she figured out the truth of what was happening….LOL LOL
Those stockings are so difficult to use. When Tillie used them, it was hard for her too, and hers were not very strong ( a lesser prescription), and she was a lot thinner. They were designed by a crazy person.
We finally got the leak fixed. We had another rainstorm over the weekend, and we did not get any water in, which was great.
I hope Neal is better. Also hope little Colin doesn’t get it. How close are they to those awful fires? I will add another prayer for him, and all the people in the path of those flames. I can’t imagine living out there. It seems like the entire state has been burning.
How many will you have for dinner Thanksgiving? We will have only 12 this year, so we will all be at one table….I think.
Hope you and jerry are good today! the sun is shining up here- snow predicted for Friday…..holy crap!!!
I am going out for lunch with my buddies on Thursday. Yahoo!!

      Hi Colleen!
We were all so happy he had a good time at his first dance. I am just amazed he is that old- 12. They had pizza for them, and face painting, which was nice. It sounded like they geared the dance to the younger kids in the school.
How are all your grands doing? Mandy? Ron? your Mom??
How many are you having for Thanksgiving? I decided to make just 3 pies- 2 chocolate cream, custard, and an apple/caramel crumble. That should be enough. I am doing 2 chocolate ones, as the one I made went so fast, I didn’t get a piece….LOL
did you ever get the electricity fixed? You were having the same problem as us, with the roof. It is so difficult to get someone to come, if you do not know them, or have used them before.
The roof is finally fixed, and it made it through the weekend rain storm with no new leak. Yahoo!!
the sun is shining up here- yahoo! It is cold, and the neighbor’s pool cover had ice in it this morning.
      Winter is coming…..

      Hi Adele,
Sounds they did a lot of fun things at the dance. They must have really had some interesting music for them to dance to. Do they still teach the kids to do dances at school. I know they use to teach square dancing, slow dancing and I cannot remember what other dance they did.The kids always enjoyed it.
Everybody here is doing pretty good. Mom has surgery tomorrow. It is out patient and is not supposed to be very bad.She has a place on the top of her head that has to be removed. My brother will take her tomorrow and we will go and stay with her Wednesday. It is hard with her living so far away..
We had snow here today and it was really pretty. We got 1 inch on the ground. It was so pretty to watch. At least we got some snow this year. Last winter we did not get any snow now we are getting it early. It is supposed to snow again on Thursday. I am so excited.
We are not having that many this year. Just Mandy and her two girls. So it will be pretty quite around here. I wish more of the family was coming but they can’t this year. It is going to get hard for my youngest to come home for the holidays. I wish they did not live in Tennessee. It is just too far away and they need to live closer. You have a lot coming your house. It should be a lot of fun. I wish all the kids were coming but I guess I will have to get use to it.
Our electricity is fixed. It has been for awhile. We found a good company to go thru so we were glad of that. I am glad that they got your roof fixed. It is getting to be the time of year when we get a lot of rain, snow where you are.
Well that is all from here. Have a great night.

      Barbara,
Your story made me laugh out loud. What a surprise for Neal! lol I’ll bet many people have compression stocking stories. someone will have to invent a better way to get the same results. We can send a man to the moon but we can’t figure out how to build a better compression stocking. I am celebrating tonight as I can take the right one off over night. Yahoo! Went for an ultrasound on the legs yesterday and she said the veins were closed up so that’s a good thing.
Is Neal close to those fires at all? I hope not. What horrible devastation they are causing. It must be very scary to live there.

      Hi Adele,
Glad you got the roof fixed before anymore rain came. Was this the charge a fee to look at it guy?
I’m surprised they still have dances at schools. it seems like when they had them here there was little interest. it sounded like a fun thing for the kids to do. I wonder how much actual dancing there is? How sweet of JJ to bring flowers for his special friend. I’m sorry she didn’t get to go.
I just found out from Jenny that we will probably be the only ones at her house for Thanksgiving. Kelly and Aaron and the kids usually would come over and sometimes Adam’s parents and his other brother would drop in. So it will be quiet. She said she invited Adam and Enya but didn’t know if they would come or not. I’m imagining a first holiday after a divorce is probably difficult-similar to holidays after the death of a loved one-as a divorce is kind of a symbolic death. We will have to try to think of new things to do this year. I did get them a cool new advent calendar which I will bring over at Thanksgiving.

      Hi Colleen,
Hope things went well with your Mom. You will have a nice visit on Wednesday. I have a rheumatologist appointment tomorrow. I feel bad because I’ve had this appointment for months and unfortunately it’s an early dismissal from school tomorrow and Jenny needed me to babysit but I can’t because of the appointment so she will have to come home early from work. I will have to remember in the future not to schedule appointments on 2nd Wednesdays during the school year as they have early dismissals for teacher’s meetings.
We will have a quiet Thanksgiving too as there won’t be a lot of people at Jenny’s this year either. I’m glad she at least lives close or we wouldn’t have anyone. Of course if she ever remarries who knows what will happen as sometimes the husband wants to go to his parent’s house. It can get complicated.
I am just grateful that we will be together and I’m glad that Wendy’s parents are only a few hours away so Brent has somewhere to go for holidays too.

      Hi Ladies,
How’s everyone doing? Good I hope. I haven’t been up to much the past few days. Just getting things arranged for Christmas. I feel like some of you. About not putting out a lot of stuff. It’s getting harder for me to decorate the place.
Portland & several towns have sent firefighters down south to help out with the fires. One of the local TV stations sent a crew down there & the reporter found a blind kitty cat & saved it.
While I’m on the subject of the fires, I wanna say something. I wish someone would keep his MOUTH SHUT until he knows the facts!!!! They believe there was an electrical issue at a substation or something & that started one of the fires. Never mind Ca. hasn’t had any measurable rain in months & is in severe drought down there. We’re not too far behind. We haven’t had a whole lot of rain either. The whole west coast is in a drought. But never mind that.
And when those Santa Ana winds kick in it’s awful. They can’t control them anymore than I can control the East winds coming out of the Gorge. He’s NUTS!!!
Nov. is usually our wettest month, but all we’ve had is a trace of rain this month. We’re supposed to get some tonight, but not much. They don’t see any storms out in the Pacific in the near future.
Well, I better get off here before I say something I can’t take back. And I don’t mean you guys.

I get soooooooo angry I could chew nails!!!!!

      Hey Colleen
Well the roof is nto fixed- it is worst. It leaked in the same spot plus one more, during the storm we had overnight, into this afternoon. I was very lucky GAry could nto sleep, and was in the recliner early this morning. The throw on the chair got wet, but as he saw it, he moved the table and chair before they got wet. the throw had to be washed, of course.
Called the roofing company- they said they will be here when it dries out. I am hoping tomorrow,a s if it is Thursday again, I will miss my outing. Also worried, as we are getting a Nor’easter Thursday night, into Friday. I could scream.
I hope your Mom’s surgery went well. Will she be ok, or need more treatments? I hope she does not.
Steph and the boys may not come on Thanksgiving. As Jhonny’s Dad just died, his mom is calling all the family together for the holiday- she will let me know. Jhonny’s parents were divorced, and his mom has a new husband. Even so, I understand. Families need to grieve in their own way.
I guess we will all be missing people at the table this year. Enzo’s family is not coming, as they have company here from Italy. Oh well. It will be different. I just hope the leak is done by then…..LOL
Hope you are ok. Your Mom too. so glad you got the electricity fixed!

      Hey Gailster
Yes, it was the fee for looking people. Read the post to Collene….it sprung 2 leaks in the storm last night- one in the same place. I have been a bear all day, as i am so disgusted, you have no idea…and a Nor’easter is coming Thursday night. I am so screwed, if they cannot get here by then. Say a prayer we can get this mess fixed tomorrow……
I think we are all going to have a very different holiday. Steph and the boys may not come, and Heather is VERY upset about it. I told her not to worry as I am sure they will stop by for a minute that day….I hope so.
It is goign to be very weird at Jenny’s, for all of you. i hope you will all be able to do some different tradition to make up for the thngs you will nto be able to do.
i am so glad you get one of the stockings off tonight- go Gail!!!!
I am pooped, as I did not sleep much last night. Imust have “felt” the leak….LOL LOL

I am right there with you. I can’t imagine how those poor victims of the fire feel reading #45’s tweets. I wonder how he would feel if Florida was burning, where his precious Mara Lago is????? i bet his reaction would have been a lot different. I heard they found 10 more people today. What an awful death. the horror those poor things must have faced. It makes you sick to think of it. The people of California need our prayers, and good wishes to help them through this awful ordeal. Prayers and wishes are nto enough. they have lost everything, and possibly friends and relatives. I hoep thye get some well needed rain.

      Hey Gail and everyone….
Happy Veterans Day to all our military, and their families. As my Dad was a veteran and career Army man, it means a lot to me.
You know, every time I see one of the reunions of a child with their parent who was overseas, I cry my eyes out. It reminds me so much of my Dad, and how we missed him so much when he was not around. He was gone every summer, as he had to take the ROTC candidates down South for active maneuvers, or whatever they called them. Dad taught ROTC at Harvard University. He requested active duty in 1957 or 1958, when we went to Germany to see my Opa, as he was dying from cancer. He lived for almost a year, after we got there ( me and Mom went first). We remained on germany for 5 years. We came back when I was almost 13, just before Christmas.
Hope all veterans are safe and sound, as well as their families.
      Love you guys!

      Hi Adele,
I am sorry that you roof is leaking again and worse then it was before. It was good that Gary saw the leak before it got your furniture wet. I would be fit to be tied if it happened here. That guy did not do a very good job.
Mom is doing really well. She came thru it all okay. She had a skin cancer on her head and they removed it. She had a local which was good. She did not need to be put under and that is what I was worried about. At her age she does not need to be put to sleep. That did not sound right. You know what I mean.
I am sorry to hear about Johnny’s dad. I did not know he died. That is really sad. It is nice that they are all going to have their dinner together this year. Maybe they will all feel better getting together like that. You will miss everyone at your dinner this year. It might be nice not having to do all that work this year. You sure have had a lot going on this year. It might be nice to just rest and have a small group there this year.
Christmas will be lonesome here. Melissa and her family I will not get to see the two little ones well they are not little but still. I wish they did not move to Tennessee. They should have stayed here in Mo. I guess that is what happens when they are in the Army.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi DD,
The pictures you posted are really nice. They are really good for veterans day. Did they have any parades or any activities for veterans in your area? They did not do anything here that I know of. It is really sad.
The fires in California is really scary. I wish they would get them under control. It is so sad that they have lost so many people and there are more missing. I guess that all we can do is pray that they are found and are okay.I have relatives that live in California. My niece had to move out of her dorm because of the fires. Her mom is living in California also. They are the only two that are still live there. My nephews moved to different states.
How is Jewel doing? I hope she is feeling better. I know she was sick for awhile. She is good company for you.
Well that is all from here. Have a great night.

It is sad that we feel guilty about not being able to take care of our grands. I know I feel guilty when I can’t watch mine. It is important that you go to your doctor. It is sad that we have to spend so much time at the doctors. They are our new best friend.lol
Mom is doing really well. She has a lot things that she wants us to do for her tomorrow so we will be busy. She wants us to do her grocery shopping for her because she does not think that she will get to go before next week. She just worries about everything.
How are your legs? I hope that they are better. I have never had to wear those socks before. They sound like they are a pain to put on. I hope they are not as hard to take off.
That will be hard to get use to with not as many there for Thanks giving. It is going to be that way here. I just hope I do not cook too much food. We have no one here to eat them. We are having to get use to not having Mandy and the girls here all the time. It is hard to do at times.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great day.

      Hi Colleen
Things changed again. Steph and family will be coming. Go figure.
The roof guy called at 7am, and said Sat or mon. I said I was concerned as a Nor’easter ison the way, and he said if he is anywhere in the area, in the next 2 days, he will come by to fix it.
So, I am grounded….again. Nancy and Gerald will come here tomorrow, and we will do take out. I am glad they are coming here!
That is good that the skin cancer is all gone from your Mom. Tillie had one on her forehead many years ago. they removed hers the same way.
I am sorry your kids will nto be by for Christmas. Being in the service is rough. They miss so many holidays and events with their families. I hope their next move will be closer to home. When do they get their next orders?
It is cold here, and windy.
Gary is at the doctor’s for a check-up, and to get the flu shot. Our friends Rona and joyce have not been well- Ron has pneumonia. So far, Joyce didn’t get it, so that is good. there is an awful cold/flu going around up here.
      Hope you are good!

My point was not that I have no one to shovel as I stated my neighbor helps around my car. I get the walk. If it gets too deep Luke will come help. My point is these people want a lot of snow & think it is so pretty do not go out & work in it shoveling , a job, etc so have no consideration for others. A friends husband had a heart attack & died shoveling. People are in accidents and are injured & hurt. Ask them how pretty it is.
They have already closed the schools here for tomorrow & it has not started yet. We went to school whether it snowed or not. These kids are going to expect their jobs to give them snow days when they grow up.
We are getting a mess tomorrow & Friday morning. I hope it is pretty well cleaned up by Sat as they are holding a turkey for me & I need to go pick it up. I am afraid walking when it is icy & we are to have snow, sleet & freezing rain. Although our area is to get more snow but still some sleet & freezing rain mixed in.
It would not be good for people from here to go to the QF live audience show. Once you got down near there they are to have lesser amounts but I would not want to worry driving there. They always have the most people from near there. It is hard to get tickets as the audience is small & the same people snatch up all the tickets. When I tried to get tickets they were gone but I know so many of them from the cruise so one of my friends had a extra that they let me have, I would love to go to a cookie exchange show but the Halloween one was fun.

      Hi Adele,
He should come and fix your roof right away. If he would have fixed it right the first he would not need to come back. That is what is aggravating. I hope he fixes it before you get more snow or rain.
It is snowing here tonight. We are supposed to get 4 to 6 inches. It is so pretty. We have to go out tomorrow. I need to pick up some groceries. We will get this snow and then it is going to be in the 50’s Friday so the snow will start melting.
That is good news that Steph and Johnny are coming for Thanks giving. Your group is growing already. It will be fun to have everyone there. Will your son help cook dinner? It would be nice if he will. That take some of the work off of you.
It sounds like fun to be with your friends. It is nice that they are coming to your house to eat lunch. Do you think that Tillie will come up and eat lunch you and your friends? That would be nice if she did but she may not want to. She may she want you to have that time with your friends.
They will not get orders for 2 more years. Well unless something happens that they want him to go over seas. I do not see that happening any time soon. They are not worried about it.
I hope that Gary’s check-up goes well. I am sorry that Ron is sick I hope that he gets well soon.
Well that is all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Sue,
I love snow and have had to drive in it. I have had to shovel it just like everyone else. I guess there are just some people that love snow and always will.

Colleen I never said you or any of the other snow lovers never shoveled or drove in it. I am saying if Ron had a heart attack & died or one of you girls were killed on the way to work would you still think it is so pretty. You may think it is pretty but it is deadly. I know one year here they were taking doctors & nurses to work on snowmobiles & ambulances could not get people to the hospital. I have compassion for those people even if I am now retired & can stay in.

Adele did you get blasted with snow. I am thinking from the news you may have received less. We have at least 10 inches now & it has turned to freezing rain then in the morning back to more snow. It is a mess. Traffic is at a standstill due to accidents & people stuck. The plows can’t get through. The police were handing out water & snacks to people who have been stuck in traffic for 6 hours. Angel said she is home safe but it took her 2 hrs 40 min. I did shovel my walk at one point but it was covered again by the time I was finished. I thought it might be easier to remove some instead of waiting until it is over. It is hard on my back as it is a wet heavy snow. While I was out the only vehicle moving on our road was the fuel truck. I got my tank filled last week so I did not need any. They were telling people to stay at work because the roads were parking lots & they would not be able to get anywhere.
So ask these people how pretty it is.
I doubt if they could get on your roof to fix the leak.

      Hi Adele,
Couldn’t get on the internet again today. I’m not sure I like the new service provider-Greg loves them as he never has problems with his computer. Go figure. I’ll bet if you have bad weather the roofer won’t show up until next week. Hopefully he gets it done before Thanksgiving. what was the issue anyway? Was it by the sky light?
I’m glad Steph will come for Thanksgiving. Hope you had a fun lunch with your friends.
How is this for weird? So we are going to Jenny’s for Thanksgiving. Her SIL (Adam’s brother’s wife) who lives two doors down is hosting Thanksgiving this year since Adam’s parents moved to a smaller place-they will probably go there. Sometimes Adam’s Mom would be out in Seattle with her daughter and just Adam’s Dad would come to Jenny’s. So we will be at Jenny’s and Adam’s family will be two doors away at Kelly and Aarons. Very weird!
I did watch Superstore last week. it is my absolutely favorite sitcom! It’s on again tonight.
How is your weather? This is weird-Greg had a few inches of snow at work and we have absolutely nothing here. He said he was half way home before the snow stopped. Anyway, he did put the plow on when he got home. We are going to look at cars again tomorrow. Hope we don’t find snow on the way.

      Sue,
I don’t like walking around after it has snowed either. I fell down a couple of years ago and fortunately didn’t hurt myself but it has made me very cautious. I am always afraid when Greg and the kids are driving to work in the snow. It is pretty to see-but it causes a lot of problems.
I am always amazed at how quickly those live Quacker show tickets get snapped up. I figure it’s often the same group. I guess I’ll just enjoy watching it on TV. Hopefully there will be some cute things. Not that i need anything new but I have a serious Quacker Christmas addiction. lol

      Colleen,
I think the snow is coming south of us as Greg had it at work and we had none at home. We are happy about that.
Will you see Aliza and Owen at Christmas. I realize that they probably will also need to see Aliza’s other grandparents too and that can get complicated as i am beginning to realize with Jenny’s situation.
Maybe in the spring you and Ron can take a trip to see Melissa, Stephen and the kids. How does he like his job as a recruiter? At least it’s probably pretty regular hours.
I’m glad things went well for your Mom. Since I no longer have my Mom I feel like your Mom and Tillie are like my adoptive Moms.
It’s funny how you will have 50 and then all the snow will melt. You are just far enough south of us where you don’t get the brutal winters.

Gail if you ever want tickets to a live audience show let me know & I can ask if someone has extra.
I must be so careful walking outside when it is bad. Because of my legs & ankles swelling I cannot get my boots on. I did not check if there was any mail because it was not cleared. No one was out shoveling so everyone must be waiting until it is over. I am afraid the whole winter is going to be like this. It just makes me mad when someone is sitting inside saying its so pretty with no regard to people who may have problems. I may be to sensitive but I feel bad for others even if I am retired & so don’t need to go to work. I did it for many years.

      Hey Sue!
Well. we first got about 6 inches last night, before we went to bed. The nose from the wind and sleet kept me up most of the night, as i was afraid of what was coming in through the roof. We were lucky with that- apparently snow and ice do not come in like rain does.
We had a lot of sleet, and then it changed to rain. Most of the snow is now gone. Still very dark and gloomy, with occasional rain showers. It is supposed to clear up later, and I hope your area is already cleared up.
I hope you got to get your turkey, with nothing on the ground to worry about. It is way too early to worry about the snow and ice.
Hope you have a good day!

      Hi Colleen!
Tillie did nto come up for lunch. She didn’t want to see anyone. We did get her a soup from Panera, and she ate it after they left.
We did have a lot of fun. It a lot of ways it was better here- no waitress to work aorund, no noise in the restaurant, so we could nto hear each other, and no worry to leave because they need the table.
Read the post to Sue for the weather news from up here….LOL
Gary’s visit went ok. he has not heard back on the blood work yet.
Today we are changing out the everyday dishes- moving them up, and getting the Christmas ones down…tis the season to be jolly!!
It will be a long 2 years, waiting for them to HOPEFULLY get orders back to your state.
It is very gloomy here today. It is supposed to clear up later, and I hope it will.
No water came in last night, which is great. they are supposed to come tomorrow, or Monday. I really want this to end. Nobody can even sit on the couch, as the valances are on the couch, so they will nto get wet. This is ridiculous. I am God thankful that no rain or snow came in last night.
Hope you and Ron are good. Stay warm and cozy!!

I am very happy I don’t have to go out in snow or ice, and can watch it from behind the windows.
I am very worried for Bobby, and the girls going to work in the snow. Like this morning. I heard Bobby leave, and strained my ears to make sure his work van left the driveway. If I didn’t hear it, I would have looked out the window to make sure he did not fall. I am a huge worry wart.

      Hi Sue
You got the storm worst than we did. Maybe it was because of the time- it started here aorund 8:00 pm. It was snowing very hard, and we had about 6 inches around midnight. It changed to sleet shortly after, and then to rain, so a lot was gone by the time we got up.
I think we were lucky to get the brunt of it after people were home from work.
How nice that the police were handing out water and snacks. God bless our first responders. I have always felt they deserve the same benefits of our military, as they are our “homeland military”.
Hope your streets are all clear now. Anything left up here is supposed to freeze tonight.

Please read the other posts, as all is in there on the first storm of the season. God help us!
I am not sure what the roof issue was, as he re-caulked around the shy light, but also replaced caps on the roof top, and ends- it is the addition in back, which we use as a living room. I still do not have the receipt which states exactly what he did. Hope it come sin the mail today.
He is supposed to come tomorrow, or monday. this is getting real old. I Know we have had a lot of storms, and a lot of people have damage. But, if you did a repair, and it got worst, one would think that would be a priority.
Your Thanksgiving is going to feel very weird to the kids. Will they go over their Aunt’s to see everyone? I hope it all works out well, and everyone has a good time.
So, I have still not washed the crystal….LOL Gary and I did change the everyday dishes to the Christmas ones today….LOL

      Hey Sue
You are not too sensitive about the snow. You are reacting to the danger you feel, every time you see a flake of snow.
My old office uniteers still laugh every time it snows, as they remember how paranoid I was until I got home. I am scared to death to walk outside in snow, and ice. Even rain is becoming slippery to me.
We all have such difficulty getting around, and since you live alone, it is an extra big issue, as nobody is there to help you. I am glad you have some very kind neighbors. God bless them, and all people who help the elderly and mobility challenged.

I am watching the cookie exchange show & trying to warm up. I was out trying to get the snow off my car but it is hard to do because it is deep & heavy. But that was not the problem it is the cold & brutal wind I could not take any more of. I only got the back & rear window clean so still need to get the top & front. He did a good job around the car but as I clear it off the car what I knock down needs to be shoveled & it is wet & heavy. So I hope it is not as windy in the morning so I can get the rest done & go pick up my turkey. This stuff is not melting anytime soon as it is so cold. We would not know what we were seeing if the sun came out. We have seen so little of it. I am afraid it will snow every couple of days the way it has been with the rain all summer & fall. We probably won’t be rid of snow until May. They have done a good job on the roads overnight and they are clear now. The only good thing is the snow is to heavy to blow so it won’t blow the roads shut again & freeze on there. Send me 90 degrees anytime.

      Hi Ladies,
Just got done watching the QF cookie show. Saw lots of things I would love to have, but as I’ve said before, I’d need to win a lottery!!! Did any of you get anything? Of course the tops with the kitties were on the top of my list.
Sue, I’m so sorry you’re having such a terrible time with the snow. I wish you could pack some or all of it up & send it out here to the West coast!!! This Nov. is on track to be our driest Nov. on record. 1977 was the driest yr so far. We’re also getting the smoke from the fires in N. Ca. Some days it’s worse than when we had the fire out in the Gorge!!! Mixed with clouds it’s really a mess. The winds are changing now to onshore (westerly) & it’s blowing it out of here. thank goodness. Our air quality was really bad the past few days.
Talk about freaking out, when Portland even hears a rumor of snow they freak out. The freeways become parking lots before it starts!! We don’t get those N’oreasters like you guys get. But right now we could use one or two. I know Ca. could use some rain right now. I don;t think rain is in the forecast anytime soon, they say.
Not a whole lot going on out here, just getting ready to decorate for Christmas. There’s gonna be 3 Thanksgiving dinners in the area for us. This Sunday Beth Israel is hosting a dinner here, then the Trinity Episcopal church will have a big dinner on Thurs., then a group of student nurses will host a dinner at the end of the month. we’ll be turkied out by the end of the month. I’ll be going over to Hallie’s for T’giving. I’ll be bringing home a lot of left overs from the sounds of it.

Well, I guess that’s all for now.
If I don;t get back to you, have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Must say ladies but from reading your notes that you all are having lots of Thanksgiving “happening’s” too. I sincerely pray that weather wise your situation is better by now, Sue. How dreadful for you and all those facing those conditions. Safe travels if you have to be on the roads, We are fortunate in our area of the country that usually we receive a much smaller amount of snow but the mere mention of the word sets Southerners off in a tailspin. We had less than an inch a few days ago; and of course they closed down the schools, leaving many parents without a back up plan or people they could call on because work doesn’t close down for them. We had frigid winds for a couple of days; but we are better now. I cooked some meat the meat market saves for me since they know I freeze their scraps that they can’t sell, and then I cook it for my outside puppies when the weather is bad. I am very lucky our little town does this for me.
I bet Ms. Jewell just snuggles in close when it turns colder for you all DD. I thought the kitty picture was so cute with them sitting there waiting for their meal. You will definitely be “turkeyed out” after all those delicious meals that your area provides. That is so good of them.
It will be an unusual day for us, too. Joey and Lisa are supposed to come; but not sure if that will happen; just never know if things change. Joey asked me the other night if I would make him something that is like a potato pancake; but I know that is not what it is called but he ate them while in Germany and said he just LOVES them. He has found the recipe’ and I said sure son; and after they got home he messages me and said please mom, don’t make the pancakes; Lisa said that she was supposed to do that not me. So I will not. Just don’t know what to do what not to do anymore. I feel so confused most of the time.
Colleen; glad your mom is doing well. I can surely relate to how you are feeling about the overseas tour. Our son has been gone so much; in fact one day I sat and wrote down all the time we had seen him over the 25 years, and it was less than 2 months; a day here; a week there. I just cried my eyes out. There is no way in the world that we can really know about his life. We have missed most of it. OK, now I am feeling sorry for myself; so I will quit.
Adele, hope your roof is fixed. So very sorry for all the troubles you have had just trying to get it repaired. Gail, glad your legs are better. Take care of yourself, this is to everyone. Hugs, Barbara

      Hi Barbara,
I guess that Lisa got her feelings hurt because Joey asked you to make that for him and not her. I do not know that she was right acting that way but some women are like that. It is a shame she feels like she is competing against you. She needs to grow up a little.
It is sad to think that it could be a long time before I get to see the grands. I will miss my daughter also. I really am sad that she married an Army guy. I wish she would have found a guy that had a normal job.
What are you going to do for Thanks giving? Will Jerry’s mom be coming to your house? I hope you have a good day planned. I am just thankful that Mandy and her girls will be here. That will be the only ones that will be here. That is okay though. Two of my daughters will be here for Christmas and their families. It is not like it use to be.
I have days when I feel sorry for myself. If my youngest daughter does not come home I will be upset. I will throw myself a pity party.
Well that is about all from here have a great night.

      Hi Sue,
We have a lot of accidents here when it rains. You can slide on wet pavement. I have lost friends to drunk drivers also so if we start looking at things that way we will none of us ever drive or leave the house again. There are also the days when the sun is so bright it is hard to see and that causes wrecks.

      Hi Adele,
I am so glad that you had a good time with your friends. It is nice that yoy had lunch at your house. It is a lot more comfortable at some ones house then in a restaurant. That was nice that you got Tillie some soup.
that was good news that Gary’s visit to the doctor went well. They always take so long to give you the blood test results. I do not know why they always make you wait so long.
That is nice that your roof did not leak again. I hope that guy came and checked it out and did not make you wait. It is a pain to wait on a repair guy. It will be nice if you do not get any more water in the house.
Have you put up any of your Christmas stuff up yet? I did not put mine up yet but will next Thursday. My granddaughters will help so will get a lot done. I do not think that I will go black Friday shopping this year. I may wait and go later. I do not feel like fighting the crowds. I might and go on Monday when everyone else is on the computer ordering things. I hope that I can find what the kids want.
Well that is all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Everyone,
I guess everyone is preparing for Thanksgiving. You know I was thinking back and remembering how my Thanksgiving has changed over my life. When I was little it was going into Chicago and going to both sets of grandparents houses. I remember being small and falling asleep in the car on the way home and my dad carrying me into the house and putting me in my bed while I was half asleep. That was always such a comforting warm feeling. Then when I was about junior high age my Mom decided that she was not dragging her kids all over every holiday so everyone starting coming to our house for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many spent the night so we had a full house with people sleeping all over the place. It was actually lots of fun and I was glad to no be able to stay home. College years and early adulthood it was going home for Thanksgiving. My parents moved to Louisiana right after I got married so I rarely ever spent a holiday with them again. We were working and the trip was too long-and plane fare too expensive in those early years. So Thanksgiving was spent at my inlaws-making the two hour drive every year. After my MIL got older she still hosted Thanksgiving but I did most of the cooking. Some years there was a full house-some years just us and Greg’s sister and her husband. Then my MIL came to live with us and Thanksgiving moved to our home and whichever of Greg’s siblings could attend did-sometimes there was tons of people here-sometimes just a few. Kids grew up but Thanksgiving was still here until they got married and Jenny took over. The dinner was attended by us and Brent and Kim-Adam’s brothers usually stopped by with their families-sometimes Adam’s Dad would come if his wife was in Washington with their daughter. Then Kim died early on a Thanksgiving morning several years back and it seemed like Thanksgiving would never be a happy occasion again but time slowly healed the wound. Brent moved away after awhile and we still went to Jenny’s. This year Jenny’s family is different as she has gotten divorced so it will just be us, her and the grands at her house this year. I guess I am remembering these things to remind myself that even though things will be different this year-I still have much to be thankful for and it’s normal for holiday celebrations to change over time and I just have to learn to change with them. I am grateful for each day of this lovely life and I hope that I have many more Thanksgiving celebrations to attend-whether there be four people or forty. Now enough of this waxing nostalgic.
Greg got his car on Friday so he is happy as a little lark. He got another SUV-a 2016 Infinity-he traded in his 12 year old Infinity sedan. We need a new shower door so we went yesterday to the big box stores to look at what we should get. He is still trying to decide with framed or frameless.
I have a dentist appointment later today-just a teeth cleaning, I hope. Tomorrow I will run to the store and get my ingredients for my Thanksgiving dishes. Jenny wanted to drop the green bean casserole this year so maybe I will take a corn casserole. I’m still thinking on that one.
We had a little bit of snow Friday night but nothing that needed to be shoveled or plowed.
Sue, I hope that you are shoveled out now and that you were able to get your turkey.
DD, it sounds like you have lots of Thanksgiving dinners to go to-Yum!
Barbara, I don’t know why Lisa insisted on making the pancakes-why are all the DIL’s making normal relationships seem like a competition. I guess you just have to go with the flow on that one.
Colleen, glad your Mom is good. Are Mandy and the girls liking their new place?
Adele, did that damn roof get fixed finally? Tell them to do it right this time. That gets frustrating. Has your Thanksgiving number been finalized yet?
After tomorrow I can take the stocking off my right leg and after Thanksgiving i am all done with my left leg. Yahoo! Free legs again! Each day I dread putting these things on more and more. So on Thanksgiving I will be grateful that it will be my last day wearing them. I am starting to see and feel some differences in my legs. The real test will be after the next road trip.
So after Thanksgiving it will be time for Christmas decorating. It takes me longer and longer. I bought a few new things this year. I hope I can remember where they are as some were bought from CIJ. I might be surprised when I find what I bought. lol

      Hi Sue
Our snow has melted, as it changed to rain. It is raining here again, and so dark, it looks like dusk out there. We are getting snow tomorrow. Not sure how much yet.
I am so sorry you have to take care of all that wet snow. Wet is the worst, as it is so awfully heavy. i hope it melted by this morning, and you are all set. I hope you can get your turkey with no snow difficulty today. Please be careful.
So, the roof guy still didn’t call, and it is raining. We called the company twice, with the second call saying we will stop payment on the check, of we don’t hear back. THAT got a call back. Woman apologized, and said she has nto been able to reach the roofer today either, so if we felt that was what we needed to do- cancel the check, and we could re-issue one when they completed the work. So, we did. I did ask if this means they will not be bak, and she said they are overbooked, and she stopped taking calls for more work. They say they will be back.
Well, of we hear nothing on Friday we will call someone else, as this is ridiculous.
I start baking tomorrow. I am doing one custard, and 2 chocolate creams, and one Apple Caramel Crumble- got the recipe from the Food Network magazine last year. Are you making a pie?
      Hope you are ok.

Well I did get dug out. We were to have more snow today but it is raining instead so that is taking snow away. It is not all gone but sure has gone down. But it is still a dark dreary day. I do not know what we have to do to get some sunshine.

I did get my turkey & guess what they charged me twice. It rang on the register 2 times. I thought my total was high but did not question it then because it was so busy a real madhouse. So I checked my receipt when I got home & found the error so I called & they will give me my money back when I take my receipt so will need to make another trip.

I am glad you have good Thanksgiving memories. My dad always refused to go anywhere on any Holiday. My moms mom lived with us until she passed away when I was in high school & none of my Aunts or Uncle ever came. My Uncle’s birthday was just before Christmas so once I grew up & was doing the cooking I invited them usually the weekend before Christmas. So it was usually just us but I really hate that now I am all alone. I like all the Thanksgiving food & can use turkey so many ways so I continue to cook for just me. I always make a turkey pot pie after Thanksgiving so looking forward to that. Maybe I will make 2 & freeze one for later. I have invited people but they all go to their family members for the holidays.

I am making pumpkin whoopi pies so better get to it.

Gail I forgot I tried the support hose with the zipper I am wearing them now. The zipper is not to bad You hold it together with one hand & zip with the other. My problem is my legs are to big at the top & I got the largest size so I just zipped as far as they would go. But I guess you are getting rid of yours soon but thought I would let you know.

      Hi Dd
You sure have a lot of Thanksgiving parties to go to. I hope you have a whole lot of fun. I am so glad you will be with a lot of people on Thanksgiving, especially since you lost your friend. It is Winnie’s birthday on Thanksgiving, which will make it even worst for her hubby and family. I talk to her sister Joanne almost every day. We have become good friends, and I am very happy about that.
I saw your decorations on FAcebook- they look very nice- very pretty!
I hope the air quality is a lot better. Every time I see the awful news on all those houses gone, and the people missing, I get sick to my stomach. I can’t imagine losing our home, neighborhood, and neighbors. My prayers go out to all of those affected.
I hope we hear from you again before Thursday. I start baking tomorrow…..
      hope your day is good.

      Hi Barbara
I am very curious about this potato pancake thing that is German. Can you post the recipe, please? the Germans do make potato pancakes- very much like, or the same as, the Potato Latkes the jewish make for Hanukkah.
Believe it or not, the roof is nto fixed. Guy did not show up Saturday, or today, as promised. So, for the first time in my life, I stopped the payment on their check. I have never done that before. After we called their office twice this am, I left the last and 3rd message saying if we did nto hear by 11:00am, the check was being stopped. Got a call back, with apologies, and excuses. They were fine with me doing that, and said I could issue a new one when they were done with the job. Any bets they will never be back? We will be calling more roofers on Friday.
I am attaching a pic of GAry with the boys in their “Jammies for Families” pj’s….LOL
I am so sorry your feelings are being continually hurt. Why do some wives feel they are in competition with their MIL’s? A good, solid relationship with your husband’s mother is so much better, and of incredible value to both women. I guess we just see things differently.
We are getting snow again tomorrow. We are having a very cold holiday.
Did I tell you Aizen is afraid of the 2 ig Nutcrackers I have outside that light up- got them from the Q. Wait til he sees the matching Santa I got this year…LOL We figure he is afraid of anything bigger then him.
Hope your prep work is going well….I bake tomorrow.

      Hi Colleen
We have the 2 nutcrackers and the santa in the kitchen, ready to set them up with the timers, so they go outside on Wednesday. GAyr has the 2 outdoor trees in the ground too. So, all outside gets lit up by Thursday night.
I will TRY to get the fall Dept 56 away this weekend, and get the 2 trees inside set up, of not decorated.
Read the post to the girls- no leak fixed yet. I am all set. Very aggravating.
GAry got his blood work back, and his doctor freaked about his liver numbers- he is going for an ultrasound on the liver at 7 am tomorrow. One liver number is supposed to be no more than 117 and his was 288. I hope we get the results by Wednesday, if not, it would be Friday.
the only Black friday shopping I would do is on the internet….LOL
IS your mom coming Thursday? I hope she is able to make it.
I have the last episode of DWTS on. I wonder who will win?

      Hey Gailster
That was really a beautiful family story on Thanksgiving. It owuld make a great Hallmark movie- “Thanksgiving Grows with Me”. It was nice just reading about it. Accept for the one where you lost Kim.
What a great Turkey present for you- no more socks. So glad the legs are doing better, and healing well.
Oh no…the leak is still with us. One good thing- it does not leak with snow. We are getting more snow tomorrow. Please read the post to the girls on all the leak info.
What is corn casserole? Never heard of it. Is it a regional thing?
Best of luck with the new car- put a red ribbon in it to ward off the evil eye- an Italian thing….LOL
Tomorrow I start to bake. I will have only one pie to do on Wednesday, and then veggie prep. We have the final count- 11. This year was sure confusing with who was, and was nto coming.
Hope you are good tonight, and got your teeth cleaned!

      Hi Sue
My Thanksgivings have nto changed too much over the years. They were always at my Nonna’s, who lived next door to us. When she died, my parents did them, but my Uncle and Aunt went to her relatives from then on. My Aunt Mary always came down, but my Aunt Sara had died before my Nonna did. the year my Dad died, I started to do them. He went into the hospital a week before Thanksgiving, and died on Dec 23rd, so I never got to host one with my Dad. It has been me ever since. Happy days….LOL
Those pumpkin whoopie pies sound good. I saw a recipe for them in one on my magazines- go Sue!!! This is the first year I am not making a pumpkin pie, as nobody ate a piece last year, accept me.
My God Sue, this world is determined to have you go out again and again. Now you have to go and get the credit. Seriously?? I hope the next storms stay as rain for you. We are getting snow tomorrow, and it will end after the evening rush hour. Bobby goes to get the turkey on hs way home tomorrow, and GAry goes for the liver ultrasound in the am. I hope it is nto slippery for him when he goes out.
Hope you are having a good night, and that your whoopie pies are perfect!

      Hi Gail,
it is fun remembering the holidays from when we were kids. My grandparents lived close to where we lived so we got to go and see both. My mom’s parents were a lot more fun then my dads. We had a bunch of cousins there and we played and did goofy things together. We always had a lot of fun.
Did you watch dwts tonight. I was not happy with who won. What did you think? I know that guy was funny and all but he was a bad dancer. Oh well it had to be disappointing for the ones that worked so hard to learn the dances. That is just my opinion.
That is great that Greg found a new car. It sounds really nice. I hope he likes it. It is hard to find a car when you want one. The ones that I find interesting are the ones that stop on their own and steer on there own. I do not think that I would feel comfortable riding in one of those vehicles.
Not much else going on here. Have a great night.

      Hi Adele,
That is a good picture of Gary and the boys. I do not see how you can get Gary to let you take pictures Ron would never let me take pictures of him. He does not like to have his picture taken.
I do not blame you for stopping that check. They should have finished the job.If they were that over booked then they should not have taken the job. There is no excuse for doing a bad job. Hopefully you will not get anymore rain.
I was so disappointed in who won dwts tonight. That Bobby was not a good dancer. I liked him he was funny but could not dance. It almost make me not want to watch it the next time it comes on. Well I won’t go that far.
I am sorry that Gary’s test were not good. Did they tell him a way to bring the numbers down or is there a way to do it without taking medicine? I will be praying for him. It is getting to where it is not fun to go to the doctor anymore. Remember the days when we would go and there was nothing wrong. Just a yearly check up and then we would go on our way. Those days are gone.
Mom usually comes to my house on Easter. My family is too big to go to her house so we celebrate here and just spend Easter with her. Last year I had to make all the food and take it to her house. I may have to do that again this year. She does not like to go too far from home anymore. I guess she has been getting sick so much this year.
Well that is about all from .Have a great night.

      Hi Ladies,
This will probably be the last post this week as I know you’ll all be really busy with Turkey day & all. And then we have Black Friday. Not a whole lot going on out here. Guess what? Rain comes in Wed. night & we have rain all through the holiday weekend into next week–FINALLY!!!! The whole west coast is in for a soaking I hear. I’ve heard the good & the bad of it. It’ll help with the fires, but too much could cause flash flooding, & mudslides. Can’t win no way, no how.
Adele, that’s a cute pic of Gary & the boys. I’m getting on my broom so I can beat the air traffic out to your place for Turkey day!!!! LOL I ordered one of those batches of David’s cookie dough, & they sent me 2 sets!! I gave one to Hallie & they LOVED the snickerdoodles!! I haven’t tried them yet. But I tried the others & they’re good!! I also pre-ordered the 4 sides, the small bagels, & the mini cheese cakes for Christmas. I’ll be going over to Hallies for dinner so I can take some of each thing for the dinnner. Leave what I want behind & take the rest with me.
I’m sorry you’re having such a bad time with the roofers.
I;m making this short so I’ll close for now.
      HAPPY THANKSGIVING everybody!!!!

      Hi Colleen
I made 2 chocolate cream pies, and the custard pie today. One more tomorrow, and then prep the veggies. Heather will be here tomorrow to help. The last thing to do is set the table. I never got to wash the crystal. Oh well…..God help anyone who complains about it….LOL
We got water in again today, but not too much, as it rained steady, but did not pour. If it pours, it comes in like crazy. Friday, we are calling more roofers. God help us. No word from the roofer I stopped the check on. Gary feels they did nto cash the check, as they had no intention to come back.
You can take a sneaky pic of Ron, pretend you are texting someone on your phone….LOL
I was very surprised with who won. It should have been one of the others. Bobby must have received a lot of America’s votes. Tillie and Gary were just as shocked.
Gary had the ultrasound at 7 this am. I hope we hear tomorrow. If not, I bet we will nto hear until next week, as a lot of people take Friday off.
      Did you bake anything today?
      Have a good night!

      Hi DD!
That sounds like a nice plan to ring the sides, etc to Hallie’s. Hallie is Kay’s daughter, right? I know you also go to see your other family, and I can’t remember their names. My age is showing.
I did not see Dave’s cookie dough. What kinds of cookies do they make? Did you make any yet? It sound slike a great idea- you don’t have to mix them, and the house still smells nice.
Did You see the Boo fetti and Pumpkin set of 2 ramekins with lids? I got both of them. they are adorable. I will use them for candy.
I hope I do have a chance to come on and say Happy Thanksgiving. If not…..

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my Quacker buddies. May you all find at least one thing to be grateful for, which you didn’t have last year. Maybe we can all be lucky enough to add one more thing to our grateful list every year.
      God bless us all!

      Hi Adele,
Did you know Sharon is leaving QVC.I was shocked when I heard it. I wonder where she is going. I really like her and wish that she was not leaving. Her farewell show is tomorrow at 4.I am not sure which qvc channel it will be on though.I wonder who will do the food shows when she is gone. She is so good at doing the food shows.
You have really been baking. Your pies sound so good.We are just having pumpkin pie and a coconut rum cake from Grandma’s. It smells really good cannot wait to taste it. I will do a lot of my cooking tomorrow. Anything that I can fix ahead I will.I love the smell of the turkey baking in the oven on Thanks giving. I love the holidays even though just my one daughter is coming.with her kids.
I hope they call with the results before the week-end. I hate waiting for results from tests. It would not be right for them to make you wait that long. You need to know what is going on with Gary.
Well not much else going on here.Have a great night and if I do not get on here before THursday Have a great Thanks giving.

I am glad that it is raining there. I hope that it moves into California and puts out all those fires and gets rid of all that smoke . That has to be hard to breathe that in.
I missed all of your cute pictures that you post. I think that you spoiled us with all of them. It is nice that you shar your cookies with your friend. I have not had David’s cookies but have had one of their cakes and it was really. It was sweet though. You could not eat a very big piece. The kids could not eat much of it at one time and they love sweets.
I hope you have a great Thanks giving.

      Hi Sue,
If we lived closer you could come with us on Thanksgiving.
Do you feel the stockings are helping your legs? I hope so. That’s the problem is to get a good fit on them you would probably have to have them almost custom made. I did get ones with a larger calf but they are not for short chubby people so they are still way too long which adds to the fit problem.
I love turkey pot pie too! Never had pumpkin whoopie pies-but am not too fond of pumpkin anyway.

      Hi Colleen,
I was surprised with the DWTS outcome too. First the guy with all those perfect scores got kicked off and then the worst dancer of the final four won. I think they need to decide whether this is going to be a popularity contest or a dance contest. If i was the guy that won i would be kind of embarrassed because he has to know that he didn’t deserve it. Well at least his pro finally won a mirror ball-she deserved it if nothing else. I keep on hearing the ratings are down for the show.
My Mom’s parents were more fun than my Dad’s too. There were no first cousins on my Mom’s side as her only sibling was unmarried-but we had lots of second and third cousins to play with-but not at Thanksgiving.
I don’t think those self driving and self stopping cars are anywhere near perfected yet. You keep on hearing of them crashing. I know one of our cars has a thing where when you are on cruise control and you get too close to the car in front of you it will slow the car down. I think it may be the Infiniti.

I’m glad the west coast is getting the rain. Hopefully there won’t be any mud slides.
I have bought that David’s cookie dough. But I bought it from their website-not from the Q. I think it is really good. I liked it because once there was just the two of us I could just use their dough and make a dozen cookies if that’s all i wanted or needed.

What a nice picture of Gary and the boys. They are so cute! You too Gary. Where’s the turkey hat? I hope you get the results back from the ultrasound quickly-although with the holiday weekend they might be delayed.
I don’t think the corn casserole is regional. I think it’s actually called corn souffle-but I’m not making that. I’m trying a different corn recipe that has swiss cheese. I’ll give the verdict on it after we eat.

      Hi Colleen
Heather was here all day, helping prep, and with the last pie. We have the table set too. I have the veggies cut for the stuffing, and the ingredients measured out ( and in the lock n lock containers) for the sweet potato casserole, and au gratin potatoes. The potatoes for the mashed are cut, and in water. the only thing I did not do, is wash the broccoli and cauliflower for that dish.
We did not hear from the doctor, so I think that is good news. If something was awful, we would have heard. At least, I hope that is correct.
I didn’t know Sharon was leaving. I hope Dave and Angel never leave. I would be devastated.
I love the smells of Thanksgiving too. the house smells so nice and cozy. We will need cozy here tomorrow, as it is going to be freezing.
Gary got the outside lit up- the 2 trees, and the nutcrackers and Santa are out there too. He figured he did not want to freeze out there tomorrow.
Hope you all have a good day tomorrow!

      Hi Gailster!
You will have to let us know if the corn dish is good. My new dish this year is the Apple Caramel Crumble. I have to say, it smelled real good. I hope it is a success.
Tomorrow is your big day- no more stocking. Go Gail!!!
The roof is a pain in my butt. Plus, where i have the chair, is where I put up the Christmas tree. I am hoping we can reach someone on Friday.
We are just having sandwiches tonight, as we did so much prep for tomorrow. I bet everyone does that.
did you hear how cold it will e up here tomorrow? Some schools had their football games today, due to the extreme cold for tomorrow.
We got a smaller bird his year- an 18 lb one. So, I don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn. Yahoo for that! I figure we will e up and working on the bird at 8, and have him on the oven by 9. Every other year, I was up at 6. the extra 1 1/2 hours will be so nice. I get the bird in, eat a quick breakfast, and then get in the shower.
Hope you all have a good time at jenny’s tomorrow. I bet Piper will keep you all entertained. She is such a cutie.
I can’t believe it is already Thanksgiving. It just came up so fast this year. Seriously??

      Hi Gail,
I do not understand how this happened. I have never watched dwts that this happened. The judges were really surprised when that good dancer got voted off the show. They all looked so shocked. That was so unexpected. I wonder if this will hurt the show. I heard that they have been loosing viewers. I really hope they do not go off the air. I really enjoy watching that show.
Are we getting old and set our ways. I can always remember my mom saying that and I wondered when you know that is Happening to you. There are some new ideas that I cannot get into.

      Hi Adele,
You are so ahead of me for tomorrow.I made a cranberry salad and broccoli cauliflower salad. I have the cornbread baked for the sage stuffing and have the bread getting stale in a bowl for the raisin dressing. It will not be long and we will be doing all this baking and cooking for Christmas. I all comes too close together. It is fun though.
It sounds like you have the outside of the house all decorated. We do not have our lights up or anything. We are really behind this. We do have a Santa Claus outside.so I guess that counts.
That is nice that Heather came over and helped you. I got some of my cooking done and one pumpkin pie baked. Will have to get up early and get dinner on the tablr by 1pm. Mandy has to be at work by 3 so she will have time to eat and relax for a little while. At least Brook does not have to work.
Well that is all from here, I have to get to bed I will have to be up early in the morning.

      Hi Everyone,
I hope that you all had a good Thanksgiving. Ours was different from what it has been. sometimes our grands and their cousins were at Jenny’s and sometimes the kids went over to Kelly’s which is just two doors down. Adam and Enya and his folks were at Kellys. Jenny just made a turkey breast as the kids do not eat much turkey. We all decided that the whole turkey tastes much better. The kids basically liked the jello and the pies best. lol They didn’t like the salad because it has peas in it-they didn’t like the new corn dish. Anyway, we adults liked the meal.
The kids were going to Adam’s for the night since Jenny had to work today so they were gone by seven. We used to all play games after dinner with Aaron and Kelly and the kids but i guess those days are gone. I must say it all made me a little sad. But then I am grateful that Jenny and the kids live close by and I can see them.
Talked to Brent. He was working and Wendy had gone to her folks house because her sister who she rarely has a chance to see was in from Colorado. He sees the heart specialist in mid January. I told him next time he saw a doctor to tell them that his mother says to fix him and stop farting around already. My gosh-they are dragging this out!
I have to go down and get into the Christmas stuff today as I promised Piper she could have my old ornaments from our tree that I no longer use to take to her Dad’s house.
I was suprised-usually a lot more people around here have their decorations up right after Thanksgiving. I didn’t notice many last night. of course thanksgiving was kind of early. I will start putting the pumpkins and leaves away in the next several days and slowly start taking out the new decorations.

      Hi Colleen
I hope all went well yesterday. All was ok here. the Apple caramel Crumble was the biggest hit. I was amazed at that, as I wondered if I wasted my time on it….LOL
I am very tired today. I fell asleep at the table after dinner, and Enzo nearly died laughing, as he was across the table from me. Today I am going very low key. I will put the Annalee dolls on the end of the table, and get the Christmas tablecloth on the dining room table, and put away the china. That will be enough for today.
My goal for over the weekend is to put the Thanksgiving Dept 56 away, as well as the Annalee Dolls, and then put up only the dining room tree. hat will make it look like I am all decorated from outside…ho ho ho. I will take my time with the rest.
How did your day go? Did Mandy get to work on time? Marissa had to be in Yankee Candle at 6am today. Did I tell you she went back to Yankee? She didn’t like the beauty store- it was way too quiet for her, and Yankee kept calling her to go back. She refused to go back as a manager, as she doesnt want that responsibility right now.
Here is a REAL funny story. JJ wanted someone to take him to Black Friday for the “experience”. We told him his Nonni was going (Heather), as she kept talking about going for the last 2 days. So, JJ says,”She will never get her lazy utt out of bed to go there”. Well, we nearly died laughing. I called Heather a little while ago, and asked how Black Friday went….here is her answer…..”I didn’t go out there- it is way too cold.” JJ was so right. JJ was also with her when I called – they were “chilling out together”. She gave him the “what-for” for saying she was lazy. That kid is too funny, and so on target with his sarcasm. LOL LOL, or should I say, Ho Ho Ho.
Hope all is well at your place.

      Hey Gailster!
Well, I am like you. I am doing the take down and put up, in pieces this year. After I answer this post, I am going to put the Christmas tablecloth on, with help from Gary, so I don’t have to keep walking aorund the table….ho ho ho.
As of this moment, all the Annalee dolls are at the end of the table. All will be boxed up tomorrow, I hope. I am so behind in finishing my Christmas ornaments for my cabinet doors! I only have 6 done. I have about 10 more to go…ho ho ho.
I am so sorry about your new Thanksgiving. I had a feeling you were going to feel that way. It really stinks when nothing is the same anymore. I think it was very good that Piper asked for your ornaments. She wants you and your traditions at her Dad’s new home. It is also good that you said yes, as many others would not have done so. You are a good person, Miss Gail.
It is good to think of the positive- that Jenny and the kids are still close by, and that their Dad is too. Still, me heart breaks for all of you.
Please read the post to Colleen for all the turkey info of the day. I did forget to tell her one thing. I always say a little at the table of my feelings for the year, and the kids thought I forgot, as we did not begin the meal with “the speech”. So, Heather asked…no speech?? They all yelled at ehr as they THOUGHT I forgot. I did nto. I was waiting for everyone to be seated, and quiet enough to begin, and so I did. Before I asked to go around the table and say what they were all grateful for, Steph chided in and said quite a bit about how grateful she was for all I did, and continue to do, for everyone in the family. I was pretty touched, as she hates to do the grateful thing at the table each year. It was nice, and unsolicited, which made it even better. So, that was something to really be grateful for, as we never really know if they all appreciate all we do.
I was so tired my eyes closed at the table after the kids cleaned up, and we were on to the goodies…lol lol
I feel the same way you do about Brent. Seriously??? this has gone on way too long.
Hope you are having a good day!! Hope Greg loves his new car.

      Hi Ladies,
Well the big cooking & eating day is over, for now at least. I hope everyone had a wonderful day with your families. I spent part of the day with Hallie & her family. She calls me her “aunt” because her mom used to call me her best friend. Cindy, (her mom) passed away a yr & a half ago. She used to take over the weekend shift when I’d have my days off, taking care of Arline. We’re not really family, by blood or anything. I don’t remember if I told you Beth Israel hosted a Thanksgiving dinner here last Sunday. I ate WAY TOO MUCH!!!! But it was so good. There was so much I was able to take some leftovers home with me.

I’m back. I can’t belive this is the 3rd try at getting this post written!! They just disappear on me.
Anyway, yeah Sharon left to spend more time with her family. she announced it on the last Gourmet holiday show she did in the middle of the month. I think that’s the same reason Albany & Jacquie left. But don’t quote me on that.
I see you guys are going to do the same thing I am, take my time decorating. I’ll send a pic I toook this morning & see if you can find what’s wrong with it.
      LOL
David’s cookies are out of NYC. Story goes people would line up in front of this big dept store there just to get his cookies. The packup I got has 3 varieties, chooclate chunk, snickerdoodles, & hot cocoa w/ marshmallows. The nice thing is you can bake as many or as few as you need. You nan also take a couple of the balls of dough & make larger ones.
Adele, I hope you found a good roofer to fix your leak. There is so much fraud going on nowadays, you can’t be too careful. You probably know this already, but checck with the BBB. It’s on the news alot out here, esp when we have even a small disaster, if there is such a thing.Crooks come out of the wood work it seems.

There was something else but can’t think of it right now.

I better end this before I lose it again!
      Have a great weekend.
      dd
PS: We got rain here, & snow in the mts. FINALLY!!! We’re so far behind I don’t know if we’ll ever catch up!

      DD,
Sounds like you had a good Thanksgiving. I do love that meal. You are getting rain and we are getting snow. It sounds like we could be getting a pretty good amount too-6 to 8 inches. We’ll see how things shape up. It’s coming in just as people will be returning from their holiday weekends.
I’m looking forward to listening to holiday music and watching holiday movies now. Thank goodness for online shopping. I no longer have to schedule my shopping time around snow falls.

      Hi Adele,
This is now my third attempt to post this. Grrrrr! No wonder you fell asleep at the table. You were exhausted after all your prep work. I used to do that. Insist on making everything from appetizers to dessert and then I would be tired and cranky when the big day came. Now I have simplified my meals and buy the appetizers and desserts unless it’s something that I really want to make. I use paper plates and plastic silverware and am much happier.
How nice it was to hear Steph talk about her gratefulness. I agree-sometimes we wonder if they even realize what we do. Every once in a while Brent gets sentimental and will email or send a card saying how appreciative he is for us-and Jenny has been doing that a lot lately with us helping her with the house and all. It is good to hear it in words sometimes.
I tried that going around the table and everyone saying what they were grateful for years ago and all I managed to do was make my MIL and SIL cry as they are so sentimental. So I dropped that-maybe I will reinstitute it. Lachlan did say he was thankful for his video games . lol
Yes, I kind of knew deep down that this Thanksgiving might be diffficult-especially with Adam taking the kids that evening. But I must roll with the changes or make myself unhappy. I’m just glad they are near.
I wasn’t that generous giving Piper my ornaments. I made a change to my tree two years ago and was no longer using these anyway. I thought they would appeal to the kids as they are all different things like santas, trees, different animals etc. not just boring balls. They are from Thomas Paccone who used to be on the Q and are stored in nice wooden boxes. Colleen will remember them-she may even have them.
We went to Jenny’s for leftovers last night. The food is even better the second day! I had brought the kids a talking Mickey mouse advent calendar and a talking bear advent calendar so they were all excited. Kendall wanted the Mickey Mouse one in her bedroom.
We were watching the grinch-Piper’s favorite and I said something about a bully-and Piper said that the Grinch didn’t make very good choices-lol-it must be something that they are learning in school. How funny that they need to learn in school what we learned at home from our parents. i guess too many parents don’t care now a days.
Greg is loving his new car so that makes me happy too.
Better go before I lose this. we are getting lots of snow.

      Hi DD!
I am so happy you spent time with your family ( you don’t have to be biologically related) , and had a nice dinner with your neighbors at the hospital dinner. It was great that you were able to get some leftovers too. Nice not to have to cook, just be bale to heat things up, and enjoy.
I will have to look for those cookies, and hope they are not all sold out.
I still have one room to dismantle. I am a little lazy today….LOL
As the roofer had nto cashed the check yet, we were able to stop payment on it. We spoke to them on Monday of last week, and told her we were going to do that. She even agreed, and said we could issue a new check when they return to fix the roof. Well, no promised call back to say when, and none even yesterday. So, we called my friend Gerald’s go to person that he uses to repair things aorund his house that he can no longer do. The nice man was concerned for us for tomorrow, as we are getting another rin storm, and he cannot get here before Monday. Told him not to worry, as we have everything covered in plastic, and have paper towels over the plastic, where the leaks are. So, tomorrow, we will be on “leak patrol”. he said if he cannot fit us in Monday, he will definitely be here by end of week, and will call to let us know.
So, I hope we will finally be able to get this fixed, and remove all the plastic, and get the tree up in there too.
We are all decorating slow this year, and I think that is funny. Hey, who cares? we can do what we want, when we want.
Did I tell you I got Bobby that outside vac/blower to do the leaves? Well, Bobby said that was not an actual gift, if it meant he had to use it to work…..LOL We all got a good laugh at that one.
i wish we could give you some rain, as we have had so much I swear we are now like Oregon, with all the rain, and you have become us.
Hope you are good today!! Hey- we had no Blue bloods yesterday. I was disappointed. We watched the Hallmark channel.

      Hey Gailster!
You know, we have never made any appetizers for Thanksgiving. Too much food. Plus, this whacky family does not arrive early enough to eat any. They breeze in, just before dinner is served. Isn’t that funny??
I laughed out loud when I read that Piper said the Grinch did not make good choices. I wish I had a video of that one!
Soooo, a little passive aggressive with the ornaments, are we? Shall we call you Grinch Nana? LOL LOL Hey, we all need to “get our Grinch out”, in whatever way we can. OMG, I think I made up a new term!
So, I am texting the kids this am, after I read our local paper- annual tree lighting with games, Santa, hayrides, and a bouncy house….all with hot chocolate and cookies in Town square, and “Pet Photos with Santa at the Mall night. Well, I get these all caps texts back from Steph, with cute emojis, and I answer what the hell do those letters mean? She writes back it was Aizen texting me, and he always puts an “A” in his text for his name. I nearly died laughing. These kids are too funny.
I think it is fine when people get emotional on Turkey day. At least they are emotional with all the seats at the table full. I can’t imagine an empty seat some day, and I know that is coming.
Winnie’s family had a tough time, and turned it into a positive. Thanksgiving was also her birthday this year. They all went out on the deck, with her favorite drink in their hand, and let balloons go into the sky, to say Happy Birthday to her. Joanne said it was real nice, and nobody cried. Glad they didn’t, but, it brought tears to my eyes. You know, I still have Maxine and Winnie’s phone numbers in my contacts. I just can’t delete them.
Glad greg loves the car. Hey- how is it without those awful stockings??
Hope your day is going well.
I hope Sue is ok. We have nto heard from her since Turkey Day.

I am okay nothing to say. Resting up I guess. I am taking so long to get anything done. I made my meal in Thanksgiving ate and put the leftovers in the frig. Removed the turkey from the bones & got it refrigerated, By that time I was tired & back hurting so I sit down a while with a cup of coffee then I got back up and did the dishes. I am happy with leftovers. I have been eating a turkey sandwich for lunch. I have a divided plate that I put turkey, stuffing, potatoes & corn on then last night I just had to pop it in the microwave and heat it up. Just like a second Thanksgiving. Now I have to make the pot pie.

Our weather is still crappy. Today is freezing rain & dark. We did have sun on Thanksgiving but it was extremely cold. Coldest on record. I hope you get your leak fixed but if it is like the sun roof in a car I had once it started leaking it was never the same. They replaced the seal & everything & it still leaked. so I got rid of the car. Sometimes things like that become no longer water tight & leak so I hope there is something they can do to fix it.

I was thinking of Gail on Thanksgiving as I watched the dog show. I know she likes to watch it. I am waiting for the Penn State football game to come on. It is the last regular game. Then we will see what bowl game they play in. Adele I hate to burst your bubble but no new Blue Bloods until January. Most show are on a break until January.

I did get batteries yesterday so I got out my candles & wreath. My wreath must be kuput as only part of it lights. Now I must see if I can find another. Not putting up a tree.

      Hi All,
Sounds like everyone had a nice thanksgiving. Ours was pretty good. There was just the five of us but that was it. We did get to talk to my youngest and her family on skype. It was fun to talk to them and see the kids. It was a lot of fun seeing them and how much they have grown.Ethan has such a deep voice. Kaylee kept bringing things to the computer to show me. It was funny she brought over a bunch of rocks to show us, It was really cute.
Gail it takes awhile to get use to having the kids leave on a holiday or they do not come at all We still have a hard time getting use to Owen not being here sometimes. I do not know what it will be like if Kylie and Brooks dad want them to come to his dads house on holidays. He did not even call them for Thanksgiving. It was nice that the aunt lives so close so the kids could go back and forth to visit..
Adele I hope this new guy you found will be able to fix your roof. At least he is letting you know that something could keep him from coming. At least he is more responsible then the other guy. Hope he comes soon.
I have to read all the posts my computer messed up last night and shut off. I get so aggravated with this stupid thing. I will not ever figure this thing out.Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Colleen,
How old is Ethan now? That is funny that Kaylee kept showing you stuff over Skype. I have never used Skype-I should probably learn how.
That is sad that Brook and Kylie’s Dad never even called them for Thanksgiving. We do have to be grateful that Adam is so involved with the kids. It still twists my heart when I see that their new normal is going back and forth though. I hope they enjoyed putting up the tree with their Dad this weekend and using my old ornaments. Greg was happy I stopped using those Thomas Paccone ornaments that all had to be fitted into the correct spaces in those boxes.
It is nice that Kelly and Aaron live close and the kids could go back and forth and see their other grandparents too. Of course their other grandparents have a lot more grands as Kelly and Aaron have four kids, Nathan has one and Erica has two and Adam has five. Although even if Brent had kids they wouldn’t live close anyway.
Do you still have the small tree this year or did you get a bigger one? How is your shopping going? I have gotten some things this weekend. I am still working on the grands. I ordered something for a friend from Etsy and the guy got the orders mixed up-mine went to a lady in Utah and I got her’s so he’s going to send me the right thing and sending me a mailer bag to mail the right thing back to him. I’m glad that I ordered early. They have such cute things on Etsy and so many are hand made. I have gotten quite a few personalized items from them.
I must say the Q had very few things that interested me for gifts this year. Their programming is pretty boring with the same old things over and over. Years ago they had lots of cute different things-it’s too bad it has changed. I have started wearing my Christmas Quacker though. I think some of the older shirts have to be retired after this year as they have been washed and worn for quite awhile now. I do love my Christmas Quacker. do you remember that new shirt with the forest animals looking at the tree-it sold out quickly and I missed it. That has always been one of my favorite Christmas themes ever since I decorated my door like that for Christmas back in the dorm in college. So I was looking around one day and I checked on it and it was back in my size so I ordered it. I was glad to get it. Very cute!

      Hi Sue,
I used to make soup from the little pieces of turkey and the carcass but Greg never really liked it-he doesn’t care for chicken noodle either. I love noodles! I used to use one of those divided plates for Brent when he lived here. I would fix dinner and if it was something he liked I would fill a plate for him and leave it in the fridge for him to get when he came home in the morning and he could just warm it up.
Did you find out what bowl game Penn State will be in? I think my old high school played for a state championship again yesterday. I will have to look up how they did. They won in 2009-played again a couple years later and got walloped-so I hope they won.
I didn’t get to watch the Dog show as the Bears were on. I should have copied it.
My Mom used to just get a little tiny live tree for her table. It was cute.

      Hi Adele,
We are supposed to get 8 to 12 inches of snow today. Thank goodness for the plow-they say it is going to be windy too and that is bad out here in the country as the roads will fill back up even after they are plowed when that happens. If school is called off I’m not sure what Jenny will do as I will not be able to drive in to watch the kids.
I guess we have always had some type of appetizers for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. People would always be wherever we were several hours ahead of time. At Christmas we have appetizers-then open gifts-then have dinner about six. Opening gifts takes awhile since we open one at a time starting from youngest to oldest-when i was a kid I was always youngest-now as an adult i am always oldest-how did that happen.
I had also bought that ornament decorating thingy from the Q and sent it to Jenny. I think they were going to do that today and put those ornaments on their tree at home. They had the same sort of thing to decorate Easter eggs and I had sent them that too. there was other kids at their house to decorate eggs and they loved it.
That’s funny about Aizen and the texts. I don’t even know what most of those emojis are supposed to mean and they are so tiny it’s hard to see them. Jenny’s kids have her old phones and I guess they can use them to text and play games. Pretty soon no one will talk to anyone face to face.
I like saying what we are thankful for but Greg’s family would get so emotional and they didn’t like that-I guess they come from the stiff upper lip school of thinking-so I just let it go. That was nice of Winnie’s family to do the balloon release and a toast to her. I am so glad that you and Joanne have become friends through all of this. it’s nice to find some ray of light amidst the sadness. somehow i feel that Winnie orchestrated that from up above. You know I just noticed that i still have Kim’s number in my contacts. I just never took it out-it can stay.
My stockings are all gone now. Hooray!!! I would love to burn them but I may need them in the future as sometimes you need a little tweak. Greg said I should give them to Piper and Isla to play with. My legs are actually feeling pretty good and I think they even look better after only two weeks. The proof will be the next time we take a long car trip.

      Hey Sue!
that was a lot to say. I wish I had the nice leftovers you have. We have a tiny lock n lock with some turkey, and the same size with some sweet potato casserole. Barely enough for 2 sandwiches….LOL
OMG, how can I love without Blue bloods on a Friday night? I guess I will be on Hallmark overload.
So, it is awful up here too- rainy and gloomy, as usual. The roof guy cannot come if it rains, and Steph told me she heard it will rain all day tomorrow. I am doomed.
I got the Fall/Thanksgiving decorations away, and pooped myself out, so no tree is up yet. I am so tired today, I am not even getting the window candles up today. So, Sue, you are way ahead of me. How funny is that??
I am hoping I will feel better tomorrow, and get the one tree at least up and in the window, and the window lights too. I think I have the same ones you have- run by battery, and on timers. I love them. My wreath is an old one, and doesn’t light up.
I realized next week is Hanukkah. I have to get the Menorah out, as we will do the potato Latka’s Sunday. It is very early this year.
I hope it doe snot rain tomorrow- please say a prayer for no rain, for both if us, Sue! Our joints are screaming for sun.

      Hi Colleen
Well, if it rains tomorrow I am screwed. I am doomed to deal with the leak until Christmas…..ho ho ho.
I am glad you got to skype the kids on Thanksgiving. That must have been so funny when Kaylee was showing you her rocks. How cute!
So, I have ITKWD on, and there is nothing new at all. Seriously??
How is your Mom doing? Tillie is different. I cannot get her to understand even the simplest thing lately. I was asking her if she needed another Stonewall Kitchen jelly as they were having a sale. I just finally gave up, and just ordered one for her. I am not sure if it is her hearing, or comprehension. The nurse signed her out of care Friday. So, no more PT or nurse coming, as they are done. She was refusing to do the exercises, and no need for a nurse anymore either. Tillie is very happy about that. she hated them coming.
      Hope your day is good!

Please read the other posts for all the wacky news of the day….LOL
I am so happy your legs feel, and look better. That made it all worthwhile. I hope you will continue to see success with car rides too.
Did you get blasted with snow? I hope you are all ok. We keep getting rain, and more rain. I just checked and there is a 70% chance of rain for tomorrow, so I am screwed on the roof.
That is actually a nice way to do Christmas Eve- horderves, then presents, and then dinner. Here Santa comes around 8 or 8:30- they ride aorund the Town stopping at every street intersection, throwing candy to the kids. the parade has been getting bigger every year- fire, police, emt’s, politicians, and Santa. God help anyone who has a crisis when Santa is coming to Town….LOL When it first started it was Santa escorted by the police chief.
It sounds like Greg’s family must have had a lot of loss, to get that emotional all the time. These kids haven’t really lost anyone close. Heather, Bobby, Tillie and I have lost my Dad, and we get teary eyed during my speech….LOL
Hope you and Greg are all snuggled up and having a hot chocolate….

Happy belated Thanksgiving to All. Jerry and I are in our winter “aches” stage. I just want to scream by starting this off with a physical complaint; but its the truth. THe wind is howling outside; and I know you all are having a much harder time with the weather than we are; so I am so sorry for what you all have to endure. Please let someone come and fix your leak, Adele. I am just sick that no one seems to be able to do this for you. One of my SIL’s had a similar problem with a skylight in her den; and it did take a lot to repair once it started leaking. I think when they install them that they do not install them properly; and that leads to all these problems later and they are off and gone and you are suffering with it. Hope you get some good news this week.
Your legs sound like they are doing great Gail. We tend to hang on to all equipment that we have had to use over the years. In fact I just pulled out an abdominal binder for Jerry a couple of weeks ago because his ribs were hurting from the cold; and I wrapped that around him and it helped him. When his ribs were broken so badly; he wore it all the time for support. So you never know when you can use those stockings again for some reason. We have crutches, canes, walkers, etc. just like a medical supply store lol. Sounds like your holiday was different for you all this year. I have been “down in the dumps” for a while now. All I could seem to think of this year was the days of old when we were all together; and there was so much noise, and laughing, and music. It was just too quiet this year; and even though Joey put on a good face, I just couldn’t believe they were having a good time or happy. Our meal was tasty, and there were plenty of left overs that they took home most of; just a different feeling, kind of like a cloud. Most of the time that we would be Face Timing with Neal; Sarah wouldn’t let the baby talk to us and then he would cry since he could hear our voices, and we could hear him saying Paw Paw Paw Paw MiMi…..and we just had to keep saying don’t let us make him cry son. Just one of those times. I so feel what you are saying about family and friends being far away. And we all know that they have their own things they have to deal with and are doing the best they can.
As I reflect on years past; I see so many things that I wish I had to opportunity to do over. So I am hoping that my “holiday spirits” will definitely take an upward turn quickly. I have been bored with most of the shows on the Q and feel like the “gifts” they act like most people are buying two of would offend me if someone gave it to me as a gift. I did make the decision to send each son and DIL the Valerie wreath that should arrive soon. And then I am going to bake cookies; do some other goodies and put them in lock and lock containers and mail this to each family. As far as my tree Sue, I am just putting out the ceramic tree with the little lights on each tip that is about a foot tall. It is the one like we had as a child. I also have a wind up Santa with forest animals all around him next to the tree in the center of the bar, and add a timer lighted snow family and that’s it for my decorations. Oh, yes, I will drape a string of mini lights across the mantle with some greenery. I think my decorating is minimal this year as well.
Is Mom eating any better, Adele? Does she like potato soup? Or has she gotten tired of soup. Jerry and I both eat some of those soups that you prepare in the microwave; I think by Campbell. We have tomato and the make us grilled cheese sandwiches. I love the Chicken noodle with the larger noodles. I add some extra to mine. ha ha
DD hope your Jewell is doing good. Our Auto Kitty is snuggling up in the Peanuts throw that I got from the Q. He loves it.
Colleen, it sounds like your grandchildren really love sharing their stories with you. It must be so nice to watch them grow and become their own little people. Most of you have grandchildren about the same age, don’t you? Hope your weather is holding up without ice. That really scares me.
Take care everyone. I count having each of you as a dear friend as one of my best blessings this Thanksgiving. It surely makes me feel so good knowing you all are here. Hugs across the miles, Barbara

      Hi Gail,
Ethan is 12 will be 13 in April. He is getting so much older. I could not believe how deep his voice is getting. I wish that they lived closer I really miss them. At least I can skype them and that is better then nothing.I really do miss them. You are lucky that Adam is so close to his kids. It makes it hard when the dad does not even call. I wish he was like Adam and wanted to see the kids. I do not know what to say to a man like this At least the girls are older and can handle it better then if they were little
Yes we still have that little tree. I am planning on getting a bigger tree next year. We had a hard time getting the tree to stay on this stool we have to put it on. I think that Ron even could understand how I feel about it. So next year we will have a tree that can sit on the the floor and we will be able to put presents under the tree.
Our weather is similar to yours. It is really windy here and it is snowing. We went from having temps in the 60’s to the temp dropping into the 20’s. Our weather is really crazy. We are getting some snow though and that will be more then we got last year.
That must have been a surprise when you got that other woman’s package. I hope that you get the right package soon. I hve never ordered from that company. I am not sure if I have ever heard of them. Might look them up on the computer and see what they have.
Not a whole lot going here. I have my tree up which takes about 5 seconds to put up. We do not have to move any furniture at all. That is really sad to have a tree that small.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Adele,
I wonder if qvc is getting too big. They have merged with hsn and that is too much. They have lost a lot of their good vendors and are getting some really expensive ones. That one company they have never have jeans under $100.00. That is just too expensive for a lot of people especially since you can get jeans from Quacker and they are a lot more comfortable. It is just not the same. The Christmas shows are not all that good. Really disappointing.
Mom is doing pretty good. she is supposed to get her stitches out Tuesday. That will be nice when she gets them out. My mom does not hear well and gets things confused. Tonight I was talking to her about my oldest sister. She was supposed to stay a couple of nights with mom so I asked if she stayed or not. Mom told me that my nephews dog died. So I have no idea if my sister stayed or if she was too sad because her son’s dog died. That was the most confusing conversation that we have ever had. It was funny. I guess that is what we have to get use to. Mom turned 96 today. Just hope that all of us have her energy at that age.
I forgot to tell Gail that I am glad that she got to take those stockings off. I am glad that your legs are feeling that much better.
I hope you get you roof fixed soon. That has to be a pain when you are trying to decorate and having to worry about the leak. I hope you will be able to put your tree up. It may go on the other side of the room.
Well that is all from here. Have a great night.
      colleen.
p.s. If you are worried about Tillie just ask her different and see if she gives you the right answer. She may have just been having a bad day

Happy Monday to All. Very windy here since yesterday. Jerry and I had planned a short trip; but changed our minds. I know we need to get away, if only for two or three days; but just can’t seem to make it happen. Hope the bad weather is somehow getting better in the snow covered areas. Sue, how far do you have to walk to get to your mail? Please take care, you have worked so hard with your knee. Our mailbox is about 400 ft. from our home; but that is not unusual living out in the rural areas. We have talked to our other pkg. carriers and asked them to drive up our drive to the house and just honk, and we will come out; and they are friends with our puppy dogs, and vice versa. it’s so funny how our puppy dogs just dance and play with those nice young men. They know them by name, and bring them milk bones too.
I got out my little ceramic Christmas tree with the Santa statue with forest animals all around him. I also put out my little chubby Santa that has a candle with a timer inside him. I put that in the bay window. Auto Kitty had to really investigate him. He watches and notes every single thing that is moved or put someplace. The Santa has a little bell that hangs from his hat, and Auto has been gently swatting him with his paw; and seems to really love what he has found. Bet your kitty loves it too DD. I look forward to seeing your pictures that you put on here so much. I am so nostalgic. THank you, and you find some beautiful ones too Gail. Hope your legs are still doing great. I am so glad that this is behind you now. I agree with you about Brent. The one thing I can say on this is if there was something terribly wrong they would be acting much more quickly. So, if you can find comfort in this, I hope just knowing that this is how I feel will help. But they really need to give him and you all some definitive no nonsense diagnosis on this. NOTHING should have taken this long for you all to STILL be waiting for answers. I would not mince words with them. I know that men have a harder time than women in speaking up; but he definitely needs to speak up. I have actually written down what I wanted Jerry to say and supplied him with a pen to write down the doctors answer and one of the first things I wrote for him to say was “My wife wrote down these questions, and she told me I have to ask you these, and for me to write down the answers” That way he knew right on the front end that we expected answers, and we were not going to just take being brushed off with some fluff. I know that all those years of being around drs. have made me more assertive around doctors, but it really is for your best interest.
One of the “things” we have had going on in our lives is we have gotten into the habit of Jerry watching the news ALL the time and me and kitty going off in to the bedroom and watching the Q in the background, or reading a book, or playing one of my games on my I Pad. Then about 3 or so I get to thinking about dinner, and like tonight, I have spaghetti sauce, garlic bread, making salad. Messaged Joey a while ago and let him know what we are having for dinner. In spite of my best efforts, I just cannot make dinner for 2. There is always enough for them as well. Jerry and I need more time spent together, but he is so interested in the news, and I want to know what is going on, but not as much as he does. I am watching the baking/cooking holiday shows. Love those. So the holiday movies on Hallmark keep me in the mood by watching them; but Jerry just doesn’t want to watch them with me. But he absolutely loves “its a wonderful life” movie. One of my favorites as well.
Take care everyone. Have a great evening. Barbara

      Dearest Barbara
For the love of all that is good and holy, what the hell was up with Sarah not letting the baby talk to you, and having him cry because he heard you. Seriously? Your son must have been beside himself. That was, at the leats, disrespective, and at the worst, emotional abuse. I am totally without any words of comfort on that one, as it has infuriated me. Dam. I really hate mean spirited people. Those that use the love of a child for his grandparents, even more.
I bet your dinner was as delicious as always. How nice that you all had plenty of leftovers to last a few days- no cooking, just heating is a great treat.
I have not seen a lot of good stuff on the Q lately either. I wish they woudl come in with some new things, we all would love to give as presents. I got those snow brushes for snow removal for cars, and that vacuum/leaf sucker. Bobby laughed at me, and said to send it back. I am still hoping he will use it. I also got those cute set of 3 prep bowls from temptations on Pumpkin and BooFetti. Have not received them yet. i did get the set of 2 covered prep bowl, also in Pumpkin and BooFetti. But, those are all things for me.
It rained here again, so we did nto hear from the new person (5th one, I may add) today. I did nto expect him to come. Now, it is pouring. I am doomed. Gary is convinced the leak is coming from the skylight. I just hope whatever it is, it gets fixed before it is too dangerous to go up on the roof.
We got Tillie those Ensure drinks. She has been saying she feels like everything is coming up on her, and has been eating a very small amount of food, no matter what we give her.
I got one tree up today, but it is not decorated yet. Tomorrow, i go to the dentist,so no decorating tomorrow. The next 4 days, I made a list of what closet to do and purge as I go. I intend to decorate the trees before Sunday, I hope. If not, I will decorate them on Monday. Sunday is Potato Latke day, for Hanukkah for Mr Gary. I hope I can meet my goal for all done before Sunday….LOL, or Ho HO Ho.

      Hi Colleen!
Read my post to Barbara- I said the same thing about the Q, and not liking the shows lately.
It is pouring here, and has been wet all day long, so no roof man today.
I am glad your mom is doing well, accept for the hearing. We have the same thing with Tillie. You are never sure if it is the hearing, or comprehension. That is a good idea to ask the question in a different way, and see if you get a different answer.
No more DWTS’s. the holiday light show is on tonight. I may watch it- not sure. We recorded a lot of the Hallmark holiday movies while we watched another one on their other channel. So, we have a lot to watch.
That is funny about the dog story and your mom. I bet I would be as confused if tillie repeated the same story….LOL you have to hear what she tells me back, that she swears I ahve said. God help us both! Wow- your mom is a lot older than Tillie- she will be 93 next May.
Hope you did nto get too much snow- saw it on the news. You and Gail are getting blasted.
      Hope your day went well.

      Hey Barbara
I ahve been watching the holiday baking shows too. they certainly have them add some real funky stuff to their deserts. Those syrups they added were strange.
I forgot to tell everyone we got the results on Gary’s ultrasound on the liver- nothing to be concerned about. I figured the news was good, as we did nto hear the next day. I feel when they take so long to tell you, all is good.
It is pouring up here right now. I am afraid to go in the living room….LOL It is what it is, as they say. I should decorate my garbage bags in the living room.
I think we are all downsizing the decorations. I figure it this way….do I really love it that much, that I am willing to pack it away, and get it out, and then pack it back up? If the answer is no, it will go…that rhymes….LOL
I have been watching the news way too much too. I ahve been obsessed with the awful things you know who is saying, and doing.
      Hope your day went well.

      Hi Barbara,
It is a shame you and Jerry could not get away. It is hard to get away this time of the year. You never know how the weather is going to be. Maybe you will get away soon you will just have to keep trying.
Ron was watching the news all the time and he started getting crabby. So now I am complaining if he starts watching it too much. He usually will not watch it if I am in the room now. He does tape some of the shows and watches them in the morning. Before I get up. So just be ready for him to start talking about the news all the time and driving you crazy all the time.
It is hard to cook for two. When I get use to it one of the kids move back in and I have to get use to cooking for a crowd. I hope to get better at cooking for just me and Ron. It is nice that you have Joey close by to come up to eat some of the left overs. I wish my grands lived close enough to walk over to our place and eat.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Adele,
I hope that Tillie will drink the Ensure. They also have Boost and they are really good. I have had those when I was having eating.problems. If that will help. Have you talked to the doctor they may have something she can take when she feels like that.I know she does not want to take meds but sometimes they will help.
The gifts that you bought sound really nice. They will really help with the snow and the blower will help Bobby a lot. It sure will make things a lot easier for him.
I agree with what you said to Barbara about her dil. That was terrible that she did that to Barbara and Jerry and really mean to do that to the baby. She is a mean spirited person. How could a person do that? It is a shame that her son did not say something but I guess that he did not want to argue with her on a holiday. That is a shame.
Did dwts end early this year? I thought it was on a little closer to Christmas. Maybe I just am not remembering right. I wonder if it will hurt the show because of what happened this year. I cannot believe that guy won. One of the worse dancers on the show.I do not see how he stayed on the show for so long. It will be interesting to see if they do things different next year.
Well that is about all from here. Have great night.

      Hi Colleen
Wew were switching channels the other night, and stopped at Shark Tank. I was glad we did, as they showed the shark who married the DWTS dancer, and their new twins. The person doing their demonstration used the twins in car seats, as he was trying to sell a holder for the car seats. It was so adorable to see Robert (the shark) be so excited to see his wife and kids. I told Gary he is REALLY in love with his family, and that is so nice to see.
Well, the roof guys came today. they told me the other ones did nothing to the roof, accept caulk around the skylight. They did nto replace roof caps. Can you imagine? They ripped us off, for nothing. No wonder they never sent me a receipt for the work, stating exactly what they did. I am glad they never cashed the check, so I was able to stop it.
The new guy today took the roof shingles off around the window, re-tarred, put new ones back, and found a nail that was loose. (We have left over ones in the shed). they said nto to remove the plastic we have around, until after another storm,a s you never know if you got the entire leak fixed until another rain storm happens.
Guess what the cost was today…….100.00. Not the 575.00 the rip off artists charged me. I hope it is finally done.
Gary also thinks that DWTS was early this year.
Tillie is refusing to go to her doctor. She will have to if she needs a new prescription, as he has no seen her in a year, and will not be able to prescribe. God help me.
Tillie said she likes the taste of the Ensure, so that is good. She is eating way less, and gagging when she eats. We are not sure if ti is more drama, or real, as nobody can come up with a reason for it. The RN who came here said she is fine, and her vitals were all good.
I hope it stopped snowing at your place. I went to the dentist for a cleaning today- all is good. Tomorrow I will continue decorating.
      Hope Your day went well!

Adele I am glad they came & worked on your roof. I hope this will fix it. You must not have had the wind we had or your roofer would have blown off the roof & be in the next state. We are to have the winds again tomorrow. They said a carbon copy of today. It is so cold too. And the darkness never ends. I wish I knew who to pay to get a dry week with sunshine. Anyway they are warning of Christmas decorations blowing away anything not tied down.

Gail I don’t know what Bowl game Penn State is playing in. It has not been announced yet. But most are thinking the Citrus Bowl.

Barbara not that far to the mailbox. I am just afraid of falling when it is slick. No so sure footed anymore. I had to make a couple trips down & back Monday. My insurance refused to pay my ambulance said it was not necessary. So I appealed it & got a letter saying they would be paying it so I called the ambulance co to let them know & they would not take my word had to mail a copy of the letter. I am also having a time getting a bill for my co pay from the hospital. Last time I never got a bill until they handed it in for collection. So I sent them an envelope with my address & a stamp on it & told them to put the statement in there & mail it so we will see what happens.
So most of the day was taken up with these things.

I put out a few decorations but am not putting up a lot. Not putting up a tree, maybe if I had a small one with lights already on it. Mine is to much to put together & get the lights on plus decorate. No one sees any of it anyway so why bother. I did order a new wreath for my door but if it stays so windy it won’t pay to put it up.

The ground is saturated & now the winds. Trees will come down. My cousin had one come down on the house & their truck. The truck did not have much done to it & their neighbor cut up the tree & took it away & insurance will pay for damage to the house.

Me again I just dropped in again to let you know I fell about an hour ago. I tried to call my neighbor but he was not home so I had to call 911 for someone to get me up. I am not hurt but am going to be sore. I did hit my head but no knot or bleeding just a bit sore. I am trying to move around because I am sure after I sleep tonight I will be stiff.

      Hi Adele,
I wish I would have known that he was going to have his family on. That is nice that he is so proud of his family. I bet the twins were really cute. I cannot remember which one of the dancers he married.I am not good at remembering. I probably would have remembered her if I would have seen her.
it is a good thing that you stopped payment on that check. That was quite a difference in the price that he charged. He sounds like he knows what he is doing It was nice that he told you to leave the plastic until after there is another rain. At least he was honest and told you that he will not know for sure if it is fixed until it rains again. This one sounds like a winner.
I wonder why she does not want to go to her doctor. We have not had that problem with mom. She just does not want to go too far from home because she will be too far away from her doctors. I guess that they go from one extreme to the other. I am glad that she likes the taste of the ensure. If she gets tired of it there are alternatives.
It seems like the older our mom’s get the more stubborn they get. Mom keeps telling us that she is getting set in her ways and I am seeing it more and more everyday.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Everyone,
I have been sick since Sunday night. Am still feeling somewhat under the weather and will probably spend most of the day napping again. Everything seems to be centered right in my neck-the glands there are so swollen it hurts to drink or talk. I just put vicks on my neck and now I am sitting writing with a heating pad around my neck. You know just like everything else Vicks is not what it used to be-it is not nearly as strong.
Colleen, you might really like Etsy. They have a lot of homemade items and they aren’t really too expensive. I have bought several things on there for gifts the last couple of years. I got quite a few things that could be personalized.
I think DWTS ended a couple weeks earlier than normal too.
Barbara, I feel the same way about Brent. If it was something that needed immediate intervention they would do it. But they still have taken their time about coming to a plan of action. I can imagine that he does not push things in terms of answers and treatment. I think you learn to do that as you get older.
You know, Barbara, sometimes Greg is in the family room on his laptop and i am in the living room on mine-or sometimes we are watching two different TV shows in different rooms. Then in the evening I usually go into the family room and we talk or watch TV together then. although I have not done much talking recently as it hurts too much. Greg’s probably cheering. lol
Adele, glad Gary’s test was good. I sure wish you could get Tillie to the doctor to be checked. I will never understand why older people often don’t want to do the things that are for their own good. You want her to do these things to make her quality of life better not because you want to hurt her.
I’m glad that you finally found a good roof guy.
You know Greg is hard of hearing and sometimes when he is watching TV or I am talking to him he hears something totally different than what is said. It often makes for some funny conversations.
Well all decorating and everything else has been at a standstill this week as I have been in bed for most of it. That’s okay. It will get done.
We did manage to go through all the rest of the fall decorations and get rid of the stuff that I no longer use-so that cleared up some boxes.
Sue, I am so sorry about your fall. Was it outside or indoors. I hope you feel okay today as you may find bruises that you didn’t know that you had.

      Hi Sue
They keep saying we are having high winds, and I see nothing out there. Just dark and gloom. I wonder if the winds stayed more down the Cape. That happens a lot.
I am hoping the leak is completely fixed too. We will have to wait until a bad rain storm with the Northeast winds occurs, and then we will be sure it is done. Not that I am looking for more dark, and gloom. We saw the sun for a couple of hours early this am, and then it was gone. It is in the low 40’s up here.

      OMG Sue
I just read that you fell. Please be careful as a concussion is very sneaky. If you feel woozy, get even a minor a headache, or feel weird in any way- please call the EMT’s back. You are in my prayers. I hope all you will have tomorrow is a little soreness, and nothing that will last, or affect you in any way.
I am so sorry you fell. I worry about you and DD all the time, as you are both alone.
      Love you, Sue!!!

      Hi Colleen
I am so worried about Sue, and DD has nto been on in a couple of days. It is awful to live alone at our ages, when we have mobility issues.
Tillie has been coming up for dinner less and less. She is nto watching TV much, as she says the noise bothers her. She can barely hear, so what is up with that? She is sitting in her chair, and just being miserable. Not a good way to spend the holidays.
The dancer he married was the one he was partnered with- I think it is Kim? the babies were tiny, so I think they are only a couple of months old. they were adorable. I was so happy I was switching channels, as I would never have seen it.
I got out a few things today, and got some of the living room decorated. I have 2 more closets to do, (plus the ornament that are in the laundry room, whihc Bobby has to get up for me) and I hope to purge some. As this was where the Nutcracker Annalee dolls were, and the Dickens Annalee dolls, nothing got purged from there….LOL
      Hope your day is good.

      Hey Gail!!
I am so sorry you have been sick. Everybody up here has had that awful cold thing. Our friend ron ended up with pneumonia, so please be careful. It is an awful one.
I can’t tell you how exhausted I am getting form decorating, and I haven’t done a lot. I get all winded, and need to sit for a minute. this is ridiculous.
I hope Brent gets the final info on his tests soon. getting the results will make you all feel so much better- I hope. I am praying they are good.
it is exhausting to deal with Tillie lately. everything is a huge drama, with ehr always saying….”Oh my God, Oh my God.” even if I say the roofer is coming. It has nothing to do with her, and you woudl think she was going up on the roof with them. Constantly hearing her obsess about everything is very tiring, especially when you have to talk her down off the wall every single second.
Hope you have a good night, and feel better soon.

      Hi Ladies,
I’m okay. Just madder than heck cuz yesterday I’d written out a long post only to have it disappear!! I was so mad I could’ve chewed nails!!! I try to recreate it so here it goes.
Well, did everyone survive Black Friday & the weekend? I don’t have anyone to buy for anymore so I’m just getting stuff for me. Aren’t I awful??
Barbara, I’m so very sorry for you & your husband. That was downright cruel, & wicked. I didn’t have kids & for someone who has a heart of cold steel that was beyond the pale, even for me!!! What goes around, comes around, just not quick enough for us. That was pure evil in my book. He’ll remember that, too.
Gail, I’m sorry to hear you’ve been sick. It’s that time of year. Something seems to be going around here, too.
Sue, please be careful!! I’ve rolled out of bed a couple times & ended up going to the ER later cuz the pain was sooooo bad. It took a few days to go away, but luckily I didn’t break my hips or bones.
Adele, I hope you’ve got your roof taken care of by now. Esp if you’re expecting lots of snow. That would be catastrophic!!! I’m doing fine. I’m in the throws of decorating the apt. I got the windows all decorated, the tree is up but not decorated.

Colleen, I think we;re in the same boat as far as the smaller tree. I thought I’d like it but I don’t. Not enough room for my ornaments. I do know WalMart has quite a few varities online, with free shipping, I think. Michaels has em on sale for half price over the Black Friday sales. They might even still be on
      sale.
Speaking of trees, back in Oct. I found a 17″ high ceramic tree, as is on the Q. I got it & was nervous to see what I got. I expected something would be broken off like the star or the lights on the tree. After opening it I checked it out & there’s nothing wrong with it that I can see.

DWTS made national news when that guy won. Apparently someone said the judges should be the ones to choose the winners. I didn’t watch this season cause I didn’t know 90% of the contestants. It’s getting boring for me these days. Most of it is boring for me.
I think that;s all for now.
      Please take care everyone!!

Sue, I am so sorry you fell. And isn’t it just hard to believe all the hassle a person has to go through with the billing nowadays? Insurance companies dictate everything it seems nowadays. I kept getting bills from a procedure this summer, and called and called them explaining how all my copay was met; and what Medicare didn’t cover; I was NOT responsible for any amount my supplemental didn’t cover (after talking to both and making sure I knew what I was saying was correct) and still got another bill with the big red “past due” stamped and the threat of it being sent for collection. It wasn’t until after I told the hospital billing dept. that the next step would be my contacting the Dept. of Aging for them threatening me with a bill I was not responsible for; that they finally quit billing me. There is no telling how much people are being overcharged. I know you are so sore from falling. Did you trip over something or just get off balance? Have you thought about one of those emergency buttons you wear around your neck? Just a thought, in case you couldn’t reach your phone, but you probably keep your phone on you at all times. Please take care. On a happier thought; I did a bad thing. lol Our grocery store had 8 bags of the cookie mix, and I bought them all. ha ha They sell out quickly and don’t carry many. So I took all that was left.
Sorry you are sick, Gail. Gosh, it sounds terrible. Your and Greggs routine sounds like ours. I come up in the evening and we watch a movie; or game show. Thankfully Jerry likes the Hallmark movies too; so we watch those now. His Mom is doing pretty good. Some days she remembers things so well; and others she just talks about years ago; and talks like it was yesterday. Her hearing is still pretty good. She has always had a loud voice. Paw Paw was always quiet. He was hard of hearing; but too prideful (or cheap) to get hearing aides. Jerrys Mom still has a good appetite. She only has a few teeth; won’t wear her dentures; so they do a soft diet for her. She loves a Frappachino from Starbucks. Jerry takes her there often. He is so sweet to his Mom. She had 7 sons; 4 still living; but none of them have taken care of her like Jerry. Some haven’t seen her for years. But they were not good to visit their Dad either. Adele, we have always mixed ice cream with the Boost or Ensure. She really likes it like that.
Your little grands are really in the Christmas spirit. There little sayings are so funny and cute.
Finally have found out whats going on with Neals little family. Neal told us Thanksgiving day that he didn’t feel real good. Well, I have been just “uneasy” about them for days, so I messaged him this morning; and he said that he has been sick since last week; been back to the doctor for more medicine Monday; that the sinus infection had come back on him; that Sarah is sick; and so far the baby is well. He said his head is hurting and his face from all the pressure. Gave him all the helpful things I could think of to say; started praying for them; Please don’t let the baby get sick too. It just hurts me so badly for us not to be there to help them. Now I know he didn’t feel like saying something to Sarah on Thurs. and they had a couple over to eat with them. Hope they didn’t get sick.
Tomorrow is Joeys 36th birthday. Jerry and I asked him last night could we spend time with him tomorrow or does Lisa have special “spend time alone” plans for them? He said he would get back with us today. Love him so much; and pray they will and are happy. Our family is so scattered in so many ways. I miss the hugs and “look Mama, look!” and dancing around the room together to our favorite songs. Speaking of that, our little ones has really got some moves. Just warms our hearts. All the innocence and just fun….love to all and grateful that Gary is okay.

Ladies I am fine. Just a few bruises & a damaged ego. I hated having to call someone to get me up. But with my back & legs just can’t do it. I would have gone to be checked if I felt anything was wrong. I didn’t even have a headache. Just some tenderness on my head & a bruise on my leg. Neighbor come to check on me today. He said he was in bed & did not hear the phone. I can’t imagine as it was just around 8PM. I know because I was watching Rudolph while I was on the floor waiting & it came on at 8.
DD was it you that was looking for Harry London chocolates. There is a TSV today.
I was hoping to get a decent day to go in town. But we had snow showers this morning & it was cold & windy. The wind was blowing every ones trash cans. I had to put mine out for morning & it was not long & it was blown over. No use going out & putting it upright as it will go again. It was the same with the neighbors. I just hope it does not blow away or get on the road & get runover. They said on the news that this is the wettest Nov. on record. It sure has been the darkest. Not sure I would recognize the sun if I saw it. Most of the snow is gone just some that was piled up remains.

      Hey Dd
So glad you got your post on here. It is very annoying when things disappear.
That’s why I ended up with 2 small trees- not enough places to put the favorite ornaments. I have one tree up, and not decorated. But, i have been making progress. I only have one more closet to get decorations out of, and then the 2 bins I have downstairs that Bobby will bring up- those have the tree ornaments in them too. Today i got the box done that has all my snowmen in them. they are set up in the kitchen on my Nonna’s old china cabinet, and they are watching my every move….lol
I only got one present I was missing, and the special butter I get to do the holiday baking. the place I get the butter form had a 15% sale on everything, so I got the butter cheaper, and that was nice. I only spring for the “good butter” on Christmas. the butter arrived today. I get it from the Saxelbury Cheese co. They have all kinds of cool cheeses, but it is hard to order cheese,if you have not tasted it. I ordered some last year, and some I liked and some I did not.
I am still working on the ornaments for us. I hope to stretch some I finished, so I can put them up- Ill take a pic, of course!
Barbara sent me an email, and alerted me to he pretty snowman Temptations plate- ordered it as fast as my fingers could….LOL
Has anyone seen the lice commercial? The farting commercial? I thought I was going to die laughing. the lice one is for one of those skype things, and the farting one, I have only seen on ….wait for it….the Hallmark channel. When I saw the farting one, even though it was almost 11:00pm, I called Nancy and could barely get the words out, I was laughing so hard. seriously? Farting commercial during the first of the Hallmark Christmas movies??
I told Gary TV went to hell in a handbasket, as soon as they started showing the feminine hygiene commercials. It was the beginning of the end of the good old fashioned shows where nobody got hurt, died, ir even slept together. Remember in I Love Lucy, they had twin beds? LOL LOL Innocence is long gone. Not to mention the Viagra commercials we could never figure out….2 side by side bathtubs?? You don’t need Viagra for that.
Well. I hope I gave you plenty to chuckle about.
Hope your day is going well.

      Hey Barbara!
Thanks for the heads up on the Temptations Snowman plate! I got one before they sold out.
Please read the post to DD, as all the news of the day, and some funny things are in there. It seems as I get out the decorations, I am getting some Christmas spirit- thank God! Miss Tillie was sucking the funny out of me, with all her negativity. I even sent down 2 of those adorable lighted Christmas trees form the Q. Heather told me she did nto take them out of the bags. (I couldn’t remember if I saw them down there or not) I thought the pretty trees would make her happy. I will attach a pic of them for you to see- you should get some. they are adorable.
I am so sorry neal is sick. He runs into too many sick people at work. Does he wear a mask when he is with someone who is coughing? I et he does not, as he is such a kind young man.
I hope you will get to see Joey some time today. HAppy Birthday Joey!! I am like you, all I seem to do is pray for everyone to be ok. My list gets longer every day.
Well, it seems like you are planning on baking cookies the easy way….really, Missy??? You have to do at least one from scratch! LOL LOL If you do not, Santa will ride right over your house.
We are all hoping we will not have any more leaks. It is supposed to rain again Sat night, so we will see. Then, i can get the furniture ack where it belongs in there….yahoo!!
Hope your day is going well.

      Hi Sue
I am more than thrilled that you are ok. i know we were all worried about you.
We had a lot of wind today too. The gusts were pretty wild. It is cold and gloomy up here too. No rain today, whihc was nice. the sun did come out every once in awhile.
Please read the other posts for all of the news from today. I hope i made you laugh, when you read some of my funnies.
I am hoping to get my Christmas cards out next week. Have you started yours yet? I figure decorate, then cards. They are piled on the kitchen table, reminding me to get going…
I hope you are nice and cozy, and have a cup of hot chocolate by your side. I may have one with dinner tonight.
Stay safe down there!!! Glad your neighbor checked on you today. I hope the weather cooperates for you to get the things you need in town.

Adele I am sorry it looks like I was wrong. A new Blue Bloods is scheduled for tonight. I was sure they said they would be on winter break like a lot of other shows. Last night there was not much on.

I have not started on cards yet. I need to get stamps & forgot when I was out yesterday. I did get flour, sugar & things like that for cookies. Still need to get nuts. So I will go back to Peight’s Store one of these days, It is close.

We are to have rain all weekend. I guess if it rains it won’t be so cold. At least the wind is not bad now. They said freezing rain today. It is dark but nothing falling from the sky yet. Hope they are wrong but seen to be right this year.

      Hi Sue
I did see a commercial for tonight’s show last night. It looks like a conflict between father and son.
It was sunny up here, and then clouded over. The kids are going to the tree lighting ceremony at Town Hall tonight. They are to have Santa, hay rides, a bouncy house, and cookies, of course….ho ho ho. I wish I could go to things like that. I so used to enjoy them. They will send me pics of the kids.
We are supposed to get a storm St night, into Sunday, but stopping before the football game at 4:30. Soooo, Gary said he doesn’t want the Latke’s on Sunday, as they will interfere with the game. I will make a brisket dinner in the crock pot. I have never made one before, so this will be a first. I got this recipe from the recent Martha Stewart magazine. She did it slow in the oven, but I will use the crock pot.
I wonder if Sue felt that huge earthquake in Alaska. A 7.0 is very scary. I hope there are no deaths.
Hope your day is goign well, and you got a chance to get out, if weather allowed, to get your supplies.
I finally finished all the decorations form the closets. Now, I just have Bobby get the ornaments from downstairs, and hang the crustal ornaments from the living room chandelier (I can’t reach that one….LOL) and get the little tree in the living room up.
I have a big “give away” section on my kitchen table.

This has been a “worry” day for us. Neal messaged us early this am to say that Sarah’s brother who lives here, is hospitalized and has sepsis. Neal had just heard from Sarah, and since he was at work he wasn’t able to get a lot of information. Neal asked us could we take care of Colin in case she has to fly home. Of course we said we would do whatever they need us to do. I don’t know what is wrong with her brother, he is a couple of years younger than Sarah. She has always had a love/mad relationship with him. He is married to a lady who had two children prior to their marriage, and now they also have a baby together. So we are here on standby waiting to hear something more after Neal gets home. I picked up the phone to call Sarah today; and Jerry actually said, “put that phone down” and reminded me that we have tried to be good in laws, and that Neal will let us know what we need to do. I can’t help but feel that it is childish of me to act this way; and then the ugly side of me remembers how hurt we have been; caused by her. So; please pray for us all. I knew Neal would go to work today; I respect him for his work ethics and want to shake him all at the same time. lol
Adele; I had always wondered too why in the world the couple had two tubs. Of course, as big as Mr and Mrs S are now we wouldn’t fit in one tub. Especially with the tub lift we have to have to help us get out of the tub. You know I really would love to have one of those walk in tubs. Do any of you have one? It just looks so relaxing. And Pat Boone has one. Wonder if they make one with two seats? Jerry and I could do a commercial if that was the case. ha ha. Course I would be complaining about how I was freezing out doors like that.
Sue gave me the name of those bags of cookie mix last year. They are so good; Jerry loves them and he is not much of a sweet eater. I am doing some homemade goodies to send each son and family this year. I have an Almond Joy Cookie; also a very easy cookie that’s made with sweetened condensed milk; and Tiger Bark; which is white and dark chocolate spread out and then swirled together, anyway it’s easy and good. The cookie mix that Sue gave me the heads up on is only sold here for a short time; and is simple and tastes like Fall to us.
I can tell that I’m worried, since I am just rambling on and on; so I will close for now. It is just so out of my nature to ignore what I think of as just common courtesy; but so much history and now I am acting just as badly. Barbara

      Hi All,
I finally got my shopping almost done. My oldest daughter went with me and she is a power shopper. So we got it done in good time. It was nice to have her with me and helping me. Aliza was with us and she is a character. I wanted to get her a pair of boots and we would look at a pair and she would say no thanks so we would look at another pair. She just was not in the mood to buy boots. Will have to look somewhere else. Her birthday is right after Christmas so am looking for a birthday present also.
I went to the doctor and had to have two shots. My arms have been so sore. One was a pneumonia shot and the other was the flu. I am so glad that I do not have to have them
Barbara I am sorry to hear about Sarah’s brother. I hope that she brings Colin to your house so you can watch him for awhile. It is nice that you are there when they need you.
Gail, I bet you are glad to hear that you are not having to put those socks on anymore. Those things are a pain. How are your legs doing now? I hope that you are feeling a lot better.
Adele how are things going with your roof? I hope that you are not having anymore leaks. How is Tillie doing? hope she is doing better. Does she come up for dinner now?
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi Ladies,
I’m taking a break from decorating. Trying to figure out where to put what. I need one of those Queen Anne mansions, lol. Our weather is back to normal now. Lots of rain down here, lots of snow in the mts this weekend. But it’ll dry out later this week but our not so lovely East winds will kick in & that will be coooooold & bring the temps down, esp at night. If we had moisture with the wind we’d be getting snow or worse freezing rain.
Sue, thanks for the heads up on the Harry London TSV earlier this week. I was beginning to think they left the Q. I did put in an order, but I’m missing 2 of my faves in this packup. Dark chocolate lava cake, & Mississippi mud pie. I know they have to switch off & do something new.
Adele, I have a pair of those cute little trees too. In fact, I plan to make a whole “forest” of my trees on the desk this yr. I’ll take pics of it when its done. As for the 5′ tree I guess I’ll have to decorate with my unbreakable ornaments & leave the glass ones off (boooooo hoooo)!
I hear ya about all those commercials on TV. IT was bad enough to hear about feminine hygine stuff, now we have to hear about mens issues too.
Can you believe it’s Dec. already??!! Where has this yr gone!!!
Hallie & her husband are treating me to go see the Harlem Globetrotters tonight. I saw em decades ago, when MeadowLark Lemon was with them. It was non stop laughter.
well that’s about all for now. take care everyone

      Hello Barbara
I wrote you an email, as I kept getting knocked out of here. I hope this one will post.
I am praying for Sarah’s brother. I had a friend who did come out of going septic, so it is possible. I will be hoping and praying for the best for him.
I will also be hoping this gives Sarah a new understanding of how supportive and helpful you and jerry are to her family. I knwo when little Colin comes to spend time with you, it will be a bitter sweet time, as you will love having him, but not the reason he is there.
Ill keep this short, in case I lose it again.

      Hi Colleen
So glad you got your shopping done. That is a funny story about little Aliza. Maybe she just does not like boots….LOL
I am making my very first Brisket for Hanukkah. Gary voted the latke’s out for today,, as they would interfere too much with the Pats game. So, I decided o do a brisket. I have seen them done slow in the oven or in a crock pot. So, I did ours in the crock pot, as the meat stays more moist that way. All the recipes are a combo of hot and sweet. This one has brown sugar, vinegar, chili sauce, chicken stock, and salt and pepper. You caramelize 2 onions, then add the sauce ingredients, and bring it to a boil, then pour over the layers of potato, carrots, and then meat, and cook. Bobby said it smells good.
We will do the latkes another night this week, or on the weekend.
Well, Tillie is back to staying downstairs again. I have to get used to her eating downstairs alone, and can do nothing about it. She is nto interested in the holidays at all, and has not even lit the tiny little trees I gave her that I got from the Q.
We had a lot of rain last night, and still no leaks. So, i think we will be ok. I am so scared to put the chair back there again. I am very grateful no water has come in.
Hope you are having a good day.

I love the little trees, they are so adorable, and you can put them anywhere.
Have to do this fats, as I keep getting knocked out.

      Hi Adele,
I am writing on this post because I will never remember what all you wrote or if you asked a question. My mind is going fast. I am going to start taking those pills that you take to help with memories.
I am glad that it did not leak when you had the rain. It sounds like that guy got that fixed for you. Did it rain really hard? Do you have your trees up? I think that you said that you have more then one tree in your house.
How did your brisket turn out? I hope that you all enjoyed it. It sounded really good.I do not think that I have ever fixed Potato Latke’s. You cannot make something like that and watch a game.
I wish that you could figure out away to get Tillie to come upstairs. Our moms can really be stubborn and there is no way we can change them. We just have to love them and do the best we can for them. I will pray that Tillie get s better soon.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.

      Hi colleen
thank you for the prayers for Tillie. She said she intends to come up for latkes, and I hope she does. She sounds more like herself today.
Well,i out the second tree for the living room away yesterday. I gave up. I will have only one small tree this year. But, I will arrange some of my larger Annalees in there, and light up the Angel tree topper nearby so we have some holiday lighting in there…ho ho ho.
the bruskett was a huge hit. As it worked out, it was just the 4 of us eating it, due to work schedules, etc. Well, I have to tell you a funny. Bobby loved it so much he kept having more. bobby said he was glad nobody else came, as there wasn’t enough meat….LOL LOL how funny is that?? It was a 6 pound pice. (you do lose about 1/3 of the roast due to shrinkage, and then the fat on it too that you do not eat) We had 3 pieces left for leftovers for last night, which Gary ate.
It did rain steady, but not hard enough like it did before, so I am still a little nervous. i think I have PTSD, for roof leaks….LOL
Hope your day is going well.
how are you feeling? I go for my annual dr. apt. tomorrow, and then back here to cook.
      Adele
