Get Your Game On!  Growing up, our family were avid game players.  We played board games and card games with my Mom and Dad and 5 sisters and brothers (3 girls, 3 boys).   There was always someone willing to play a game.  My brothers and sisters played Clue ( I always wanted to be Miss Scarlett), Monopoly, Sorry, Battleship, Life, Scrabble, Yahtzee, Mille Bornes, etc....

When I became a Mom, I enjoyed playing games with my son Scott.  We played Candyland, Pickup sticks, tiddly winks, twenty questions, travel Bingo and more.

One year, Scott came home from college  for a family reunion week end.  Scott arrived  with a great new game, Trivial Pursuit.  The brothers and sisters wanted to play, so we played teams.  One of the questions was "who was the tyrant ruler of Uganda?".  It was Scott's turn.  He answered 'Idi Amin".  My sister Kathy challenged the answer saying the answer was incomplete. "What do you mean incomplete?", said Scott.  Kathy replied, "The entire answer is Idi Amin Dada".  Scott groaned, steamed a little, and pleaded with logic for his answer.  That episode caused a lot of talk and dispute around the table.  Ultimately, the answer  Idi Amin was dismissed as "not correct".  That trivia game still lives in our family memory and is discussed, remembered and still debated. Now, whenever a game of Trivia is played, the family individuals involved want to be clear if we are playing "Dada Rules".

Dada Rules: Cutting no slack, answering with first, last and middle names, requiring complete answers and  adhering to game rules in the strictest manner.  There is a faction of our family that continues to play “Dada Rules”, but most of us play with a little more ease, “ha ha” rules.
Every once in awhile something happens that stays in the family memory.

One game that is a family staple ( and generally, non-controversial) is  Scrabble.
A few weeks ago  Scott discovered an iPhone application called "Words With Friends".  Our family could play Scrabble, wirelessly on our cell phones.  The application has been great fun and for a second or two during the day, we are connected to a son, daughter, sister, brother or friend.  If you can text on your phone, there might be a game application that you will enjoy.

Check it out.
Great talking to you!,
