September is the start of a whole new you!

Happy September! I love September because it always seems like the beginning of a new year to me. The kids go back to school, our snowbird friends come back, the fun winter season is on it's way and cool weather is returning...OH I love it. I always feel like I get two New Year's Days...January 1 and September 1.

September is also called One-on-one Month...now that everything has settled down from the summer and you have some extra time on your hands...take that time and invite a friend or co-worker to lunch. When people spend time together on a one-on-one basis they are more likely to talk about their lives in a more meaningful way. You might find you are sharing dreams, hopes and ideas. You might find you are talking about your interests and forming a better friendship than ever before...this is so much easier to do one-on-one than in a group or even just three or four people. Friends are so important to our life...without them I think we would all sink and drown in the pond of life...cherish yours.

And I want to thank all of you, my dear friends, for being there for my brother and me at this time in our life. We all have stuff going on in our lives...some much worse than mine. That you would take the time and have that much love in you heart for me has brought me to tears. For those who have sent cards, I have sent them on to Dick so he can see all the love and prayers going out for him...both of us so believe in prayer...just asking God to give us the strength to get through whatever life has to give us both the good and the bad...

"The Dick Report"...he is doing so much better. He is a little better on his feet...walking had become so hard for him...this week he said he had walked from the car to the back door in the garage without the walker. He said it made him chuckle. Years ago when he was visiting Dick, my Dad asked him to put up a railing going up the garage steps into the back door for him...he said it would be a big help getting into the house. Well Dick said, "I guess Father knows best." And it is a big help to him right now.

When sitting at his desk, he can raise his right leg...which he has not been able to do in a long time. And he could once again feed himself with his right hand. So the tumor must be getting smaller around the motor skills part of the brain...you know this really puts life into focus...last year his biggest worry was how the next big deal was going and now the big deal is the little baby steps his walking is taking. We all seem very encouraged...please keep up the prayer chain....we are a mighty group and we can move mountains. I do believe in magic...let's make some happen. And while we're in that mood...let's ask God to give us the knowledge to wipe this out all together.

Thanks for all your kind words about my friend Mary Ann...you have all been very sweet. Everyday something comes up and I think,  "I've got to call Mary Ann and get the answer." I have always felt when God set up this world of ours, it would have been nice if we could have had a phone line to Heaven so we could chat back and forth  just to keep in touch. I have always found death to be so final. You just don't think of it 'til someone is not there anymore. We just can't take one moment of the day for granted...cherish it and connect one-on-one with a friend today...or a family member...or the little ol' lady next door...just connect with life...live it to the fullest and remember to giggle a lot or it could get you down.

So it's time to take a look at some of the days on our calendar this month...

It is International People Skills Month...sometimes we have some really tough stuff to tell people...let's see if we can find a better way to say it, and make someone's day a little bit brighter.

It's also Library Card Sign-up Month...my husband was a librarian so this would be his month. So go bring a child...or an adult...or maybe even yourself to the library and sign up for a card. It's a great way to discover books and save money at the same time.

It is Gynecology Cancer Awareness Month and Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month and Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month...let's all be aware of all the cancer in our lives and choose to Stand Up 2 Cancer!

Finally, tardiness is a good thing...on September 5, celebrate Be Late For Something Day...just make sure if it is important that you call ahead first!

September 7 is Grandma Moses Day...a woman who was proof that it's never too late to live your dream. So take this day to do something you've been dreaming about doing...and BELIEVE that you can change your life and the world.

Grandparent's Day is also on September 7...if you are a grandparent, take the day to go visit the grandkids, and if you are a parent, take the kids to see your Mom and Dad!

September 8-13 is Line Dance Week...so get the girlfriends...and maybe the guys who'll do it...and go out to a bar or the local dance hall and tell them to put on some fun line dance music...it is time to boogie-woogie!

Wonderful Weirdos Day is September 9...what a funny day...I guess we all have people in our lives that are just a little bit strange, but we enjoy them anyway...and today we should be glad we have them...they make us look normal!

Oh, I like this...on September 10, celebrate Swap Ideas Day...so have your friends over for coffee and share your best ideas with each other. Tell them about your dreams...who knows...maybe swapping ideas will lead to sharing in something bigger than you ever imagined with your friends!

Bald is Beautiful Day comes on September 13...I don't care if you're a man or a woman who has lost their hair naturally or because of chemo...you are gorgeous, and you should celebrate the beauty of baldness!

And I'm so glad to see that Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week is on the calendar from September 14-20...they come in to a brand new classroom every day and have to teach whatever they're told to...and hope the kids behave themselves! They deserve a lot of love!

September 19 is Talk Like A Pirate Day...Arrrrgh, I don't know anything else that pirates say!

September 20 is America's Day for Kids...let's celebrate the children of this great country...they are our future.

September 20 is also Wife Appreciation Day. Make sure your husbands know about this one. Circle it big on the calendar, and tell him he has to treat you EXTRA nice for all the wonderful things you do for him every day. You deserve it.

Let's be friends! Women's Friendship Day is on September 21...so invite the girls out to lunch or even over for coffee...we all need our girlfriends, and we've got to celebrate our friendship with them every chance we've got.

We singles have our own week...National Singles Week from September 21-27. We are strong...we are proud...we are wonderful, sexy people who have made it on our own. Yay yay yay for us!

September 26 is Love Note Day...leave a note for your husband, or the kids, or send a note to your sister or brother or Mom or Dad...tell them how much you love them and why...they will appreciate the thoughtfulness.

I love you all...
